  2. It's based on the average income of the people living there to the housing prices. Sure, if you find somewhere where people make $200 a month and housing costs $100 a month, it is definitely cheaper but that isn't affordable. Two completely different things you are looking at.
  3. Surly this isn’t the most affordable cities to live in the world. In fact, none of these would be within the United States, but rather in South America. That’s even if I exclude some very undesirable places, like Africa, India, and maybe even China.
  4. WNY continuing to pile up accolades over the past few years...momentum is really building as more and more reports continue to rank us very very favorably compared to many places. Rochester coming in #2, Buffalo #6 in world's most affordable cities. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/home-prices-affordable-cities-cheap-housing/
  5. Who's ready for some macaroni art from the grandkids and stuff you'll never use but the memories last a lifetime. And grilling for everyone but the mothers always get the fancy restaurant on mother's day
  6. Today
  7. Hopefully one day soon we'll be discussing Sabres Stanley Cup Finals hockey on Father's Day and not bickering over how to fix the team in the offseason. 🍺
  8. Every player is different. Östlund’s brain is much better than Asplund’s ever was. I think Östlund is one of those guys who struggles to produce in the AHL to start the year then explodes in the second half.
  9. I knew somebody would point out the stylistic differences. The similarity is they are small and fast and I think that will hinder him or keep him from being NHL elite.
  10. McDavid is no Gretzky tell me when he actually takes over and dominates and this series is over anyway Beside His game 4 that whopping 3 points in 3 games sure is Gretzky level
  11. Gabriel Eliasson was ranked by Daily Faceoff as the most physical player in this draft. He is a LHD from Sweden who should be available in the middle rounds of this draft. 6’7” Dman hates to see an opponent have the puck and will use everything at his disposal to separate them from it. Commited to Michigan, where he should have plenty of time to develop. I want to add grit, toughness and defensive ability to the Sabres and this kid has all of that, plus these skills comes in a huge frame. I haven’t studied him closely so I don’t know his deficiencies but with a mid round pick he would be interesting. He may not lead prospects in any fancy stats but it sounds like re-possession is a strength of his.
  12. It was clear by the middle of the second the Panthers' bench had already given up on the game. It was accurate at the time I posted it. Kind of like saying "Uncle Joe looks to be in good shape" two years before he dies of a heart attack.
  13. Again, they play very different styles, but I see the similarities; smallish, smart, hard-working Swedish centres. Asplund played the game the right way in my opinion. He didn’t make it simply because he wasn’t talented enough to carry his strengths over at the NHL level. Östlund has the same diligent approach, but appears to be more talented than Asplund: better skater, better passer, harder shot. If he doesn’t make it it will be because he isn’t strong enough to carry his strengths over. Asplund wasn’t tall, but he was solid. Östlund is thicker than he was when we drafted him but he’s still pretty slight.
  14. Cool. A lot of hockey fans would not begin to understand how someone would get information or value or satisfaction out of posting 44,000 times on a hockey discussion forum. We all have our things we enjoy and don't enjoy.
  15. I'm not making a prediction. Honestly, I'm about to express a rather uniformed impression that I have of Östlund. He gives me Asplund vibes (size, background, post-draft production, uncertainty if he can be a centre in the NHL, etc.).
  16. OK. I spent 17 seconds on that site. No need to go back, or to go back again and again and say it makes me a more informed fan who enjoys the games more. Philanthropy score 2. Generous.
  17. To me, “absolutely disagree” means you think the Sabres can be fixed by just a couple of prime free agents, but that’s not what the rest of your post talks about. You clearly think the Sabres need to make additions, which I clearly think and wrote as well. What exactly are we disagreeing about?
  18. Well, capfriendly does not post tax returns of players. They post salaries. but what's odd is.. there is such a site for people like Terry Pegula - https://www.forbes.com/profile/terrence-pegula/ And ultimately, why does it matter to anyone what someone else chooses to do with their time? Even if you don't understand it, do you need to? (This is not directed at your @PASabreFan but to all who are questioning each other about other's preferences).

The Kraken took about 18 months to get their name in place. The PWHL has no names yet because of the same length of time. The entire research process takes quite some time and the more names being evaluated the longer it takes. Vegas took awhile and had to deal with a contention against using the term Knights and had to go Golden. There are a lot of people who get paid a lot of money to work through this process. Determining all kinds of factors and THEN they kick of the USPTO process which, like most governmental processes, takes forever.
  20. I was intrigued by big forward Dean Letourneau, who played prep school this year and is listed from late 1st rounder to mid second rounder. He was measured to be 6’6.5 214 at the combine. The competition he faced is what concerns a lot of scouts in evaluating him. I watched his interview with Flo Hockey. He tries to model his game after TNT due to his size and offensive skill. With Will Smith turning pro with San Jose there was an opening on Boston College for him this coming season. He was committed there but was going to the USHL to develop. He says he interviewed with 25 teams but the Sabres were not one of them.
  21. They’re both quick, but Noah Östlund plays a considerably different game to Ennis. Ennis was a one-on-one player who made plays stickhandling. Östlund is a give-and-go player who generally moves the puck as quickly as he gets it.
  22. Happy Fathers Day to the Dads. My daughters ( adults ) are taking me to dinner later. Mom just had surgery and is recovering at the hospital. Will visit her for a while first. I will smoke a good cigar on my deck later and watch golf on the laptop.
  23. No show to an extent, but more just everything that could go wrong for the Swamp Cats did. Nurse initially gets a 5 minute penalty for kneeing Bennett which gets reduced to a 2 minute minor. Point man for the Cats hits the post on the PP and Reinhart pounces on the rebound and bounces it off the same post and though the crease. Later that same PP the F at the point makes a poor decision to win a race to a loose puck in the high slot creating a 2 on 1 with Montour the Cat dropping back. No biggie, right? Except when Montour goes flat to take away the pass to the far side F, his momentum takes him right back into Bobrovsky who winds up behind the goal line to the left of the net tangled up w/ Monty. Puck goes back in front and it's an easy goal for the Eulers. That initial goal was a microcosm of the entire game.
  24. So weird...both Dallas in the NBA and Edmonton in NHL avoided sweep with huge blowout wins. Watch both go down in game 5 now after shooting their shot.
  25. Acknowledging I have seen very little of any of the players in this draft, from all that I have read and the little I have seen, I would be thrilled with anyone in that top 11.
  26. Until we see otherwise, I think the post-off-season roster will be closer to this than we are hoping. Goalies will be UPL and Levi. The D looks mostly right, though I don’t think Clague will be on the team. It will be Johnson or an underwhelming UFA, like Brendan Smith. I think we do trade a prospect or #11 for a 3C and that our general reaction will be of disappointment in the return (Jenner for #11 is the ceiling, Laughton for Rosen and a lesser pick the floor). We will come in $3-5 million under the cap. For some fans it will be surprising how close to the cap we are, but the reality is there is only room for one big move or two-three moderately big moves. I don’t see this as “Sabre fan end of the world”. I think it is possible that adding a veteran 3C combined with better coaching, some bounce back years and maturation, will get us close and maybe into a WC spot. But we will not be going into training camp thinking this is a playoff team. Rather, we will be thinking this is a playoff team “IF” a lot of things go right that are far from sure-bets to go right.
