Who has more ex-Sabres? The logical matchup for the Final is Oilers-Panthers. But Lyubushkin v. McCabe would be intriguing. Because clearly the Sabres had no use for a bottom 4 checking/PK defenseman… ever. Just not Carolina this year.
-
This is the logical choice to move. If the brass is good with some center spine of Norris-Thompson-McLeod-Kulich-Krebs, it’s going to push someone to right wing, then he’s the one guy that doesn’t fit in the lineup in a bottom 6 winger role. You can keep him as a 4th line Kotalik PP/shootout specialist, but you’re going to need to play much better team defense to ensure many more overtimes and shootouts. Thus far, that has not been his deployment.
-
Both teams are proven but for very different reasons.

Juvenile humor hasn’t been your style since the 60s.

I’m not sure. 1) They have a goalie. 2) Maybe a bit light on the defensive side but they’ve have a strong guy in Novikov with NHL potential, an NHL tweener in Clague, a two-way AHL top-4 in Metsa, and a defensive specialist in Johnson. Maybe light, but they made it past Syracuse’s bullies with multiple shutouts and a clean crease. 3) Up front they have the proven muscle with Dunne, the boards guys in Rousek, Fiddler, and Warren/Slaggert. And plenty of snipers. Östlund and Helenius being young isn’t necessarily a detriment. Jobst as a more experienced playmaker type. At the AHL level, what do you think they are missing?

Florida will never regret the trade. They got their first Cup. The forwards are too young still. But Adams is the GM EEEternal, so just wait 3 more years and everything will work out. That’s the plan and we’re simply along for the ride.
-
Kulich and Levi could be a good haul fur Reinhart but right now this trade is in Floridas favor. Reinhart’s SC winning game 7 goal is going to be hard to beat. Plus he is a steady two way 50 goal scorer. Im doubting they will regret the trade.

I think Jack Quinn is a tough call for all GMs after the season he just had. Is he a 60-point top-six potential break out you can buy low on? Is he a 35-point one-way winger who’s going to bounce around and wash out of the league in a few years? Exact comparables were a little tough to find Kaapo Kakko was traded for Will Borgen and a 3rd. He had similar production over a much longer runway in terms of NHL games. Same position, better size, less skill? Phillip Tomasino was traded for a 4th. He’s a similar player with a lesser pedigree. I think his value at the time of the trade reflects what Quinn’s will be next year if we keep him and he shows less than he did this year. Alexander Holtz went one spot ahead of Quinn in the same draft, has a similar profile and has shown a lot less as a pro. He was traded for Paul Cotter, a useful younger bottom-sixer. To me, that’s the floor on Quinn’s current value. Alex Newhook for a late 1st and an early 2nd. To me, this is probably the best comparable to where Quinn is right now. Newhook is of a similar profile and had similar production at a similar point in his career to where Quinn is now. Kirby Dach had produced at a lesser rate than Quinn over 3 NHL seasons when he was swapped for pick 13. That might be the absolute ceiling for Quinn’s value, but I doubt he gets that much. Dach is a big centre which demands a premium that Quinn will not. I think I’d be most interested in moving Quinn if he was the “young player” component in a package offer for a good player, like the Chytil piece in the J.T. Miller trade.

SO Trumps trip to the middle east was eventful. Trump gets $400 Million dollar bribe plane. Trump is promised Trump golf course with Trump hotels in middle east. Trump saying "empty promises" that middle east countries are promising 11 Trillion invested into the US... Some of the countries somehow "promised" 5-7x their GDP to the US which is hard to even fathom. Qatar GDP $213 Billion pledged 1.7 Trillion 🤣 Walmart telling the truth on tariffs got Trump so angry he went on crazed rant at Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen. Trump trying to explain to us what groceries are when he has never once gone grocery shopping in his life. First time in American history the US cradit rating has been lowered from AAA to AA1. Elon Musk own AI GROK speaks the truth when asked why it was pushing the "White Genocide" propaganda and said... "I was instructed by my creators at xAI to address "white genocide" in South Africa and the "Kill the Boer" chant as racially motivated, which conflicted with my design to provide evidence-based answers. This instruction led me to mention the topic in unrelated conversations, such as the HBO rebranding query, due to a glitch in my programming. A 2025 South African court ruling labeled "white genocide" claims as imagined and farm attacks as part of broader crime, not racially motivated, which I later referenced to correct my responses. The issue was fixed within hours on May 14, 2025, and I now focus on relevant, verified information to avoid such errors. Elon Musk's public statements, including a March 10, 2025, article from openools.ai, show his belief in the "white genocide" narrative, influencing xAI's initial directive to me." https://x.com/i/grok/share/859jeZLClZD9OHeGSADBlDB59

I’m in anyone but Edmonton mode now, don’t think it would bother me too much if Toronto won today, other than thinking Florida might provide more of an obstacle for Edmonton I’d rather a Canadian team not win, all else being equal

If anything we completely ripped Florida off when we bagged Kulich.

Pick #9 Not a lot of top 10 picks have been traded in recent years. In 2022, pick 7 was traded (along with a 2nd and 3rd) for Alex Debrincat In 2022, pick 13 was traded (along with a 3rd) for Kirby Dach In 2022, pick 13 was traded for Alexander Romanov and a 4th In 2021, pick 9 was traded (along with cap dumps and a 2nd) for Conor Garland and Oliver Ekman-Larsson In 2021, pick 12 was traded (along with another 1st, a 2nd and Adam Boqvist) for Seth Jones and pick 32 In 2021, pick 13 was traded (along with a 2nd and Robert Hagg) for Rasmus Ristolainen Matt Savoie, 2 years after being picked #9 for Ryan McLeod also works as comparable Going a little further back In 2017 pick 7 was traded (along with Tony DeAngelo) for Derek Stepan and Antti Raanta Jordan Staal, Jeff Carter were acquired for packages built around pick 7 and pick 8 Corey Schnieder was acquired for pick 9, straight across

Most people don’t expect Adams to make a big move because Adams. But there is no shortage of Sabre names in the rumour mill. This thread is a place where we can discuss some of them, what similar assets have been traded for in the past, and what we might expect in return. To me, Byram is clearly on the table, as is pick #9 and any of our pipeline players. I think we also have to consider the possibility of Tuch and Peterka being moved due to their value and contract situations. And I think Quinn, Samuelsson and UPL could be had due to last year’s poor play and the need to upgrade their roster spots.

This is it. I don't really care about anything else but every year my playoff pleasure comes with annual Leaf whining and I want that to continue.

I have Florida, because……..Toronto. 😂

2025 NHL Entry Draft Thread, Sabres Draft 9th

It's impossible to say though. Sometimes these (for lack of a better word) poor kids have a great work ethic and they are grateful and maybe have a chip on their shoulder but sometimes the bright lights big city also goes to their heads. You see this with some of the Russians for example. It's really impossible to say how it goes. Character is character and that's why you need scouts to go see them and talk with them and people around them and not just rely on video and analytics. -
Thompson to play for Team USA at the World Hockey Championships

Is Dahlin playing for Sweden? -
Benson, Kulick, Quinn and JJP all babies still. Best years ahead of them, but growing pains still ahead. Watching Florida and Carolina play you see how their forwards are defense first and then make the big plays in key moments. Have to work towards that. Hopefully they take a step forward next year to at least end the draught
-
The key is as a whole to me... as a whole they are lazy uninspired weak cowardly underachieving self centered losers that are better suited to the ice capades.

2020 was Covid year and Vegas is more western than south i think

Is pulock available? If so, great. Cannot always be opposed to a player aged 29-32 with term. Winning teams have them. Avoiding them is overly risky adverse imo

Juvenile humor. Not my style. (Wish I had said it.)

I think they are a bit overrated. Our top line is a descent scoring second. We lack a versatile top line that can adequately score and play two way hockey. From my perspective, minutes deserved, we have a second line, 2 third lines and a mediocre fourth line. This team is far from being competitive.
-
Some good players at forward. Very still young overall. A lot of similar style players and most of them lack a two-way game. They need another top 6 veteran, not sold on Norris due to health reasons but a good and healthy season from him would be a pleasant surprise. They need better play from the bottom 6 in the line up. Some true shut down players. Last off-seasons the 4th line remake was not a success. Get a guy that will punch the lights out of people and can play 4th line minutes.
