Is Hughes as good as Dahlin (or better or worse?)

How would everyone feel if Buffalo had a new GM and  traded Dahlin for that return?

It would be a big mistake. With a Dahlin trade you are essentially signaling that you will be going through another rebuild. That will likely mean that Tuch and Tage will also make it clear that they will also want out. And it wouldn't be a surprise if Tuch is in that category already.

Hughes is not as good a two way player as Dahlin. He is like Makar, smaller super skilled D man that use that speed and skill to get the puck where it needs to go

I don’t consider Hughes a Dman even though he won a Norris. It’s the Art Ross trophy for Dmen. I don’t think we’ll ever see a Rod Langway type win it again but I prefer an all round Dman to a rover. An example is Doughty in his prime. He would lead the offense, hit, block shots and take on the opponents’ toughest matchups.

Hughes puts up excellent offensive numbers and is a PP QB you dream of. He looks like Bryson, in his own end without the puck.

I found this from an old HF board thread in 2023.

Dahlin - 5 inches, 22 pounds, shot velocity, reach, physicality
Quinn - brain size, edgework, vision

If Hughes is worth 4 prime assets is Power worth 3 if he were on the block? Not that I am advocating for it but I think given what teams are willing to pay for a PP QB  his value is higher than what many might think it is.

Like Erik Karlsson, I think Quinn Huges is a bit overrated, even with his Norris Trophy, his game lacks on the defensive side.

He is flashy and he is fantastic on the offensive part of the game.  I see that.

When it’s playoff time I prefer defensemen like Ekblad and Slavin.

I think the Hughes trade is the start of a major rebuild in Vancouver,  which means they could retain a big part of EP40s salary, if they get a good return.

Oh I think it's definitely a tear down rebuild/tank now. They knew Hughes would walk in a year and a half and I think they knew if they waited until next year they would get less as other teams would know they were up against it and would try to lowball them. Reinhart type returns at best. I would guess they were being offered 3 big pieces and then Minnesota jumped in with 4 and that was tche4 best they could get. Young guys to fill out the roster while they tank and rebuild and maybe given ice time those guys still develop. Ohgren played with Rosen or Östlund didn't he? Same level. A lot of people are high on Buium. Skilled but he has defensive issues. I think at best he's a Byram type. It's not a great return but really, I can't see how they could get more on a player who would have walked 100%.

Colorado, Dallas and Minnesota will beat upeach other in the first two rounds for at least the next two years.

Based on the defenseman in that division the Central should be renamed the Norris Division
