Certainly doesn’t.  But let’s say the rumors have some merit and he won’t resign with us.  Wouldn’t you want to take the best deal available for him?  Or does every trade have to be a hockey trade?

Gotta get more than futures for a player like JJP. Utah has a few pieces(Crouse or Kesselring)) plus a swap of 4 & 9 for JJP.

Now there is a deal I could get wrap my head around Crouse + Kesserling for Peterka, I dont know about the pick swap cause I think Kesserling would have more value then we think. I almost think we would need to add in a Kesserling + Crouse for Peterka deal, so I dont think we would get the benefit of moving up to 4th from 9 for that. If it was the other way around and we had 4 and they picked 9th, then id say that works for me

Utah is apparently interested in moving their #4 pick for a current top 6 forward. Sabres have options to explore here. Too many to list and although I do not want a subtraction if there was something that would work here that would also open up trading our pick in a Rossi deal or Dobson deal or etc etc . It does seem like there are teams ready to move players and picks around this year. Adams should have some options and opportunities.

I'd love to get #4, Michael Kesselring and prospect Vadim Moroz for JJP and #9 but that be asking for too much. Then ship Byram or Power and #4 for EP40.

I have no interest in Pettersson. Especially for that package.

I don't think jjp and 9 for a or prospect, a good defender and 4 is an overpay. Not at all, especially in the draft.

You're not getting that for JJP and #9.  Norris might interest them though.

Norris is the only pure top 2 Center we have on the roster, not sure it's wise to move him unless get a proven top 4 dman back and a B level prospect or more back.

I may be wrong, but I think Peterka holds far more value than Norris.  Peterka, I think, is viewed as a potential star scoring winger (he is practically that already).  Norris would be viewed as a huge injury risk with an enormous contract.

JJ Peterka just put up his 2nd 27g season and had 68pts as a 23yr old. I think teams thinking they can sign that long term for 7ish would be excited.

Absolutely. And much more potential than Norris. JJP can learn defense.

Norris 239 GP in 6 seasons.   (158 points)

Peterka 238 GP and he's only 23 and... no major injuries, his minimum GP in a full season is 77.   (150 points).

They should but the question is why would the Sabres look to move away from that unless he not a team player/and or unwilling to stay here? And if we do move on from him how to we replace him and improve the team at the same time? Yes, it likely going to take more than 1 move hence my suggestion in getting after EP40 after moving JJP for a RHD Dman on a low salary but still a RFA after this salary runs out, a prospect and hopefully a pick we can flip for a forward that is arguably better than JJP.

If I have the choice between pushing all in on Robertson or Pettersson... I'm going Robertson.

I mean either EP40 or Robertson could fit in my trade scenarios, I just went with the Center that already has the long term contract in place.

Anyone can learn defense and the right fundamentals, the question is do they want to.

Because Peterka has zero interest in playing defense.

Why do we want futures?  Give me a roster player now.  Jason Robertson or Marco Rossi fit that bill.

And he can make that choice. Because then he can decide how he wants to be remembered.

Does he want to be Jeff Skinner or Pavel Bure? Both are going to have more than 700 career points (Skinner at 699, and I figure he plays next season regardless of this year's outcome).

One of them might even end up with his name on the Stanley Cup. The other is in the Hall of Fame and has 34 career SHG. Neither played much defense.

We could throw Satan in as well. Won a Cup, 700 points, 16 career SHG. There are multiple ways to not play defense and still provide value to a roster.

Don't trust him to stay healthy. Not worth the risk imo.  I've already said I expect next year's excuse to be "if not for injuries" and I'd rather avoid that probability.

I personally agree with that assessment. Although I was fine to trade Cozens, I would not have moved him for Norris. I like Peterka and think he still has even more potential with good coaching and a good system. I'm not sure the whole league would agree with that though. I think there are many who would be interested in Norris. Utah would be my first phone call.
