No googling. What was Eleanor Roosevelt's maiden name?

I must have missed this day in history class.

Weren't they related, like cousins or something?  Could her name have been Roosevelt, too?  Or am I confusing that with another president?

Yes. She was Eleanor Roosevelt Roosevelt. If her middle name was Rosario she could come back as a voice on NPR.

Her uncle was Teddy. She married a distant cousin in Franklin.

Times were simpler then.

An indication that I live in the barrio- This is what shows up in my Nextdoor feed:

Also, I saw chickens in someone's front yard when I was out walking the dog yesterday.

Do you live in a city with over a million people?  That's the crazy thing- it's like if people kept livestock in the Buffalo city limits or Lackawanna or Cheektowaga.  I've seen people with goats, sheep, even horses in their backyards, on city lots.

We get people asking in the middle of a giant thunder storm if that loud boom sound was gunshots.

But southern cities (especially Texan ones) aren't condensed like northern cities are.  They sprawl greatly and many areas that would be suburbs in the north are incorporated within the city limits down where you're at.

In cities like Houston without zoning (at least that was zoning less 30 years ago) wouldn't be surprised at all at there being areas with livestock within city limits.

So, not sure a lost goat sign IN ENGLISH necessarily confirms you're in the Barrio.

Btw, once hit a deer within Buffalo's city limits.

I can't believe anyone drinks any Bud beer product.

It's only good for drowning slugs in your garden.

It took a good five minutes before I realized there was a beer.

Most people do not notice it doesn’t say Budweiser on the can.   Wonder why?

Is it because the cans with the can weren't impressive enough to have anybody (except possibly @shrader) look at the gif long enough to start reading the can?

I’ve been listening to two kids scream nonstop for a week now while dealing with a nasty cold. Beggars can’t be choosers.

So my son recently completed a masters degree in a field that the company I work for employs.  I work for a Very Big Corporation.  In his job hunt he came across an opening at my company and asked me about it.  It turns out it's in my department.  I purposely didn't want to steer him toward my company; if he got here I wanted it to be his decision.

But now that he's interested I'll do what I can to get him in.  I'm acquainted with the hiring manager so I forwarded his resume to her.  So many applications come in and so many get screened out that it helps to focus the recruiter/hiring manager on a particular candidate.

I don't know if they'll pick him or not, but if they do hire him he'll be sitting about a 30 second walk from my desk.

Seems weird.

I know your company and industry as you and I have talked on PMs.

As far as his resume, the hiring manager usually gets that from the job posting portal.

I have seen this situation a lot and have hired sons/daughters of several employees myself.

It can and does work in a very big company with no problems.  Since you are in physically close proximity, it is more up to you not getting involved in his workday than anything else.

If he gets hired chances are he moves to a new project in the first few years and you never see him at work.

I'm not too worried about how it will work out.  It's just one of those "when worlds collide" situations, like when I discover two friends I know from different situations actually know each other.  In the "first few years" of his career, I'll be retiring anyway.
