I guess I'm glad they decided to make it extremely difficult for out of towners that work for a living to make it to their seats in time to hear Douggie sing. Made it a much easier decision on whether to Stubhub Friday's game.

Amen...in 20 degrees and possible snow for the next 20 games no less....

If it is an NHL directive, and everyone HAS to do it, then the Sabres are off the hook.

Here's my NHL analyst take:

Memo from the office of the Honorable Gary B. Bettman

RE: Enhanced Security Procedures

Sirs:

In light of the recent events in Boston and Los Angeles, as well as making sure the fans of our great game are out of harm's way, the league will be enforcing a heightened measure of security at all entry points of admission during NHL games. While it may make for a minor inconvenience in some cases, there is no more precious gift than life.

OK, here's the deal guys. We need to bleed these suckers for as much cash as they have to keep this second rate league viable. What I want you to do, is to wand the sh!t out of these peasants for the next 2 weeks. Really give them the thrice over. Make it so they are grumbling and mumbling and carry it well into the 1st period.

We've done an internal study....

The average attendance to an NHL game is 18,000

The average amount of money spent on concessions and merchandise per person in attendance is $23

78% of revenue from concessions and merchandise are collected pre-game, post-game, and during intermissions.

The breakdown of fan arrival to games is the following:

1 hour+ prior to puck drop: 1,500

45 minutes to 1 hour: 1,500

30 minutes to 45 minutes: 4,500

15 minutes to 30 minutes: 6,500

game time to 15 minutes: 3,500

post game time: 500

We have found that the average fan arrives 28 minutes prior to game time. When added to the intermissions and negligible post game attendance, the average fan is a captive consumer in-stadium for approximately 70 minutes. 78% of our variable revenues are collected in those 70 minutes while only 22% are collected in the other 113 minutes of game play and stoppage.

It is in our opinion that a strict enforcing of security measures which will delay entrance into the game for only the first 2 weeks, will condition approximately 30% of the fans to arrive anywhere from 15-60 minutes earlier than their normal arrival, as to not miss any of the event. Ongoing enforcement levels will be reviewed and evaluated.

If 30% of 18,000 people arrive at the arena an average of 30 minutes earlier, this will move our captive in-stadium consumer number to an average of 79 minutes from 70 minutes. Given that 78% of variable revenue is booked during captive stage, and with an expected increase of average captive time of 13% and a previous average of $23 spent per captive audience member, revenues should look to increase by $2.33 per captive, per game.

$2.33 x 18,000 captives x 41 games = $1.72 million increase in revenues per team

Given the average gross profit margin of 40% on concessions and merchandise league wide, this new security implementation should increase profit up to $20 million over the course of a full season for our membership in an optimal scenario. While we expect some of the captives to eventually revert to their traditional arrival times, the conditioning early on in the process is a key factor.

We thank you all for striving to make the league as strong as possible through revenue growth. Since we can't just drill another well, it is up to innovative ideas such as this to grow actual revenue and profit.

Sincerely,

Uncle Gary
