Staal looks like he was covering up after losing his footing.

He still got way more swings in than any Peters fight.

And WTF, Semin does his work with goals, assists, etc...

Did he get the game-misconduct for his jersey coming off?

Yeah, he did. Obviously he wasn't planning on fighting but Staal was targeting both Ovechkin and Semin on that shift, so at least he was standing up for himself.

It's always good to see a non-fighter standing up like that. It's means way more than when a Peters drops the gloves.

On a related note, do you think Crosby is getting a little frustrated?

Oh yeah he is... allot of teams have been playing/putting a checking player on him and having him glue himself to him all over the ice add it's known he loses his cool when taunted and this is what you get when he's not scoring and team is not doing well.

As ridiculous as Semin's fighting style may be, the NHL is even more so. You're allowed to rain down blow after blow to the head, but if your jersey isn't attached you get ejected.

This is the same league that gives you 15 games for crippling a player on purpose and 6 games for calling your ex "sloppy seconds". It just doesn't make sense and it never will.

John Buccigross seems to agree with the consensus that Peters is a terrible fighter

Of all of the designated fighters in the NHL, the most boring is Andrew Peters of the Sabres. The worst kind of NHL fight is when a guy throws a punch every eight seconds while keeping his face out of harm's way. The best fights and the most entertaining fighters are the guys who employ the take-one-to-give-one method: Riley Cote, Arron Asham, Milan Lucic, Eric Godard, Eric Boulton, Colton Orr, Dan Carcillo, Jody Shelley and Ian Laperriere, to name a few. (Mr. Peters, please keep in mind that if you challenge me to a fight, I will employ the Monty Python "run away" theory.)

Semins fighting style reminded me of the end of "Blazing Saddles" when the tuxedo wearing men doing showtunes are fighting the cast of the movie. "You Brute, You Brute, You Brute"

I can imagine when Peters is fighting the referee comes up to them and says "you guys are paid to fight not dance around like a bunch of Kansas City f@&&**$"

You can thank Rob Ray for that. They came up with the penalty and the strap on the jersey because of the way he would quickly shed his jersey and all his pads so the other guy couldn't get a good hold on him when he fought.

This is a stupid rule coming from a league that prides itself on stupidity. Let both guys take their jerseys off for all I care. IMO, it makes for a more entertaining battle compared to the "let's hold each others jerseys" and eventually have the refs step in.

Haha the mental image of Rob Ray going at at really put a smile on my face right now, thanks! :)

Yeah but coming on the heels of a thread where people want fighting banned due to dangerousness, this would probably not help make it any safer.
