The Family Tree

Looking around different sites wondering where players came from and thought a "Sabres family tree" might be cool to do in the offseason.

Something like this:

Mogilny traded for:

1) Peca - who turns into Connolly and Pyatt (turned into 4th round, pick later traded)

2) Wilson - who turns into

Warrener- who turns into Drury (lost to FA)

5th round pick - which turns into R. Miller

3) 1st round pick - which turns into McKee (lost to FA)

others?

Here's another:

Rick Martin to Barasso to Bodger to Vaclav Varada, Martin Spanhel and Philadelphia's 1st (previously acquired, later traded to Phoenix - Phoenix selected Daniel Briere)

Daniel Briere played in an All Star game watched by Kevin Bacon .. What do I win?

Here's a few quick ones:

Carney & pick --> New Knee (Muni) & pick

New Knee --> Darryl Shannon & Grosek

Grosek --> Gilmour, Dumont, & nada

Gould & Pratt --> Korab

Korab --> Housley (& eventually Korab)

Housley (& Arniel & Parker & Tkachuk) --> Hawerchuck & May

May & pick --> Sanderson

And the full deal on Martin:

Martin --> Chisholm & Barasso

Barasso & Pick --> Darren Shannon & Bodger

Shannon & Hartman & Kennedy --> McLlwain, Donnelly, & pick (Khymalev)

Donnelly --> Black and pick (basically nothing)

McLlwain, Turgeon, Krupp, & Hogue --> LaLa, Hillier, Wood, & pick (Melanson)

LaLa --> Peters

Khymalev & pick --> Jean Luc Grande Pierre (one of the best names in hockey), pick (Sarich), and pick (Max)

Sarich, Primeau, Holzinger, & pick (Kharitanov) --> Gratton & pick (Roy)

Gratton & pick --> Briere & pick

EDIT (oops, forgot Bodger's tree) :blush:

Bodger --> Spahnel, Varada, pick (Briere), and pick (Martone)

Varada & pick --? pick (Klepis)

Klepis --> Grier

Seems that a GM's job is to try and not end the tree

Players get moved around so much in this league. These kind of stories are will continue to happen as long as the league is still running. Its purely coincidental though. No GM is offering trades while thinking "man, I've got to live up to that deal back in '79".

I was thinking Danny Gare > Mike Foligno > Lou Franceschetti :thumbsup:

I loved Foligno, one of my all-time favorites, but that trade of Gare and Schoenfeld in the same deal ... I know they declined after but ... it was like the end of the innocence for the Sabres. Didn't the Sabres actually trade Sauve for himself that year? They basically loaned him to Detroit the rest of the year and they gave him back when they traded Edwards to Calgary.
