  1. Anyone have a top secret stream for someone like me in a hotel with no NHL network? 😬
  2. Old-timer back after a long time away ... May dip my toe back into the Aud Club, but been considering selling a bunch of my Sabres jerseys and figured this might be a place to start. Hard to do and I don't want to just give them away, but we moved a year ago and they have just been hanging in a closet. And the cost of my son's own hockey "career" just keeps going up, so, every little bit helps. Anyway, here is a list of what I have. All customized player jerseys are professionally done, sewn-on everything. Also you can see none are fakes from overseas or newer Fanatics crap. For whatever that is worth (more to some, less to others), it's hard to find these much anymore. Authentics all have fight strap. They all mostly hung on display or in a closet but I wore most of them at one point or another. I can post or send detailed pics on request. 3. Just make sure he understands the value of grit and being a good guy in the room. C.J. isn't totally there yet in terms of wanting to know every detail about players other than Jack ... he is starting to ask more questions now when we watch so it's coming, but he also loves playing so much he literally has a hard time sitting and watching. More than once he has gotten up and walked out of the room saying "I can't watch this anymore, it makes me want to play right now.." We really need to move home to Buffalo so the kid can have a backyard rink.
  4. Thanks, it's been fun. A parent from another team at his hockey tournament this past weekend recognized us, it's pretty crazy.
  5. He will be held to account if he was so bad at his job that when he hits the market this offseason no one wants him. Trading him now does nothing but send a bad message to the room and veterans around the league you might want to sign in the summer or next summer or whatever. You're just looking for someone to blame, and you can blame him all you want I guess, but trading him makes no sense. Gionta is the same guy the players in Montreal revered as a leader. He is telling you he WANTS to stay. If your response is essentially, "Nah, sorry, you didn't lead well enough, we only improved 27 points last season but what have you done for me lately?!? You must be held accountable!" ... I mean, would you want to play for that team? Not to mention, who is the leader then? Gorges? At least Gionta can play a little. Who is listening to Gorges? I just don't see how it helps at all. He's not the problem. They don't have enough good players yet. That's the problem.
  6. Yeah, a strong message to the rest of the NHL and the guys in the room that you'll treat veteran players like crap by ignoring their request to stay put to get a conditional 4th round pick. Sorry but this idea that "the team isn't as good as we want so someone must be punished" attitude that has taken hold with sports fans in general over the last few years drives me crazy. Players don't respond to that. Besides, the effort and leadership on this team are not the problem. Their defensemen suck, they are not deep enough yet, and the coach's system may be a problem. Everyone knew these things could be issues BEFORE THE SEASON, yet somehow people are stunned and wants heads to roll. Maybe I am too patient, next year at this time I'll probably feel different if they are in the same spot, but for now I don't want them making panic moves.
  7. I understand the heat on Bylsma, whatever he is doing isn't working. Sometimes coaches are a bad fit for certain groups of players and apparently his system may be too much for a young team. But the idea of firing Murray anytime soon is just nuts to me. He inherited a MESS. To say his trades to accelerate the rebuild haven't worked is flat-out wrong. He got the best player in both the O'Reilly and Kane deals by far. You can say they haven't accelerated it ENOUGH for YOU, but it just goes to show how far down they were starting. They improved 27 points last season over the year before. Without those deals, where are they last season? 65-70 points instead of 81? If they get 21 points in the last 19 games (which is possible), they'll have made a 30-point jump in 2 seasons. To me, that's pretty accelerated compared to where they would be if they didn't make those trades. It's not good enough, of course, but expecting more was unrealistic, IMO. Of course Murray has made mistakes. I wish Bogosian was better, but half of us hated Myers too. I wish Murray would have addressed the defense more this season, I wish the Moulson contract didn't exist. D-Lo is not an NHL player (although, again, if it cost us 2 points in the 2014-15 standings to lose McNabb, it was worth it) ... it's incredibly frustrating to watch. I get it. But bottom line: You hired the guy to tear it down, get a stud and build around said stud. That was the plan. Said stud is not even 21. Murray has drafted 25 guys, most of whom, again, are not even old enough to drink in the U.S. Yet already people want to change course and fire him? That seems foolhardy.
  8. Oh. Sorry. I think my point stands. Expecting a 42-point jump in two seasons was asking a lot given where they started. They'll probably get to about +35. I'll take it.
  9. The Sabres might be able to get back into the race if they can take 7+ points out of the first four games after the break, which is possible for sure. But I have to believe they will fall back again during the first three weeks of March: They have a home-and-home with Columbus AND a West Coast trip sandwiched in between games with Pittsburgh. I am going to guess they pull between 25-28 points from the last 22 games. That puts them in the 87-90 range. Maybe that's disappointing to some after 81 last season ... but given the early injuries I will be happy with that. You can say injuries are an excuse but NO ONE had this team at more than 95 points, and that was if EVERYTHING went right. Everything did not go right. Not happy with the state of the defense corps, but that is GMTM's task in the offseason. Bottom line, I think most of us would have been OK with going from 52 and 54 points in the tank years to 88 or so before Eichel turns 21. In fact I might have said that was ambitious before last season. All that to say, I am trying very hard to not get caught up in playoff fever. Hopefully they drag me in.
  10. I disagree. Second coolest to Smell's username. Still so pissed he thought of it before me.
  11. How do you think I felt! I had no idea they would play up that angle so much ... that song just killed me. The video really doesn't do justice to how comfortable and easy going Eichel was with us. And really the whole team with C.J. loitering around the tunnel/bench area all through the morning skate. Bylsma kept telling him to get off those boards behind the bench and stay behind the glass, he was seriously nervous he would get hit with an errant puck haha
  12. I am not! Even though the song is a freaking tear jerker ...
  13. The video just popped up on the Sabres website .... I think they did a great job with it ... https://www.nhl.com/sabres/video/the-eichel-tower/t-277437090/c-49282603 EDIT: Here is the link to the story I wrote with the video embedded ... I wrote it not having seen the video but it fits pretty well. https://www.nhl.com/sabres/news/the-eichel-tower/c-286625906 (It will come as no surprise to those who have seen my posts that I wrote too much. So be it.)
  14. Posting this now because with my luck it will happen when I am in my car on the way to work or something ... The video the Sabres did on our family and the Eichel Tower when they were here in Nashville is set to go live on the Sabres website today, not sure when. I also wrote something to go with it, not 100 percent sure they are going to use that or put it up at the same time, but we'll see. If they don't use it, I will post it here. Hopefully they made us look good
  15. Thanks I heard that. Jeremy and I have exchanged messages on Twitter, there's no doubt his mentioning it a few times has drawn attention to it. Eh, he plays seven minutes a night, and not every night. If this was baseball and the guy HAS to take a turn at bat and play defense at all times, he wouldn't have a job, obviously. Hockey coaches can pick their spots and play their weakest players much less. It's a team with a bunch of guys learning to be pros, and there may be some value to keeping a guy like that around, who knows? It's something I have a hard time being cut-and-dried about without being around a team.
  16. I am not arguing this point but I needed a place to share this because it was one of my favorite moments from our little Eichel Tower adventure when the team was in Nashville. At the morning skate there were 5-7 guys milling around the bench waiting for the Zamboni to finish so they could get out there and they were just standing there chatting quietly or whatever. Then 44 comes out of the tunnel bouncing all over the place and says very loudly, in the thickest, most stereotypical French Canadian hockey player accent you can imagine "Hey boys! Let's slap the biscuit around for an hour, eh?!?!" as he knocks a pile of pucks off the boards and sends an arena worker scurrying to get one out of the way of the Zamboni. Then he hits the ice, turns hard left and checks Bogosian into the boards with a huge smile. Everyone laughs. Energy level up. Lots of smiles from there on out. We can argue what the hell that actually adds to a team in terms of real value. Certainly there are guys out there who can bring that and contribute more, and he could still do that and be scratched for sure. But it was obvious the dude is well-liked, and I think it's always cool to see when a pro athlete doesn't take himself too seriously and seems to love what he does. Anyway ... hate rooting against Lindy but big game tonight. Need to hit the break in a good mood.
  17. The last two days have just been bananas ... I will post more later but the look on C.J.'s face in this pic after the OT goal is pretty much what it has been since he met Jack. But really anyone on the team who saw him or interacted with him at the morning skate was incredible ... again, more later. Thanks to all you guys too for thinking of us ....
  18. The last couple days have been beyond anything C.J. could have imagined. We can't thank Lauren Hall and the people at the Sabres enough for the way they have treated C.J. and all of us really. We kept it as a surprise for him that he was going to meet Jack so he was pretty speechless and shy for a few minutes, but Jack was unbelievable with him drawing him into a conversation. Stay tuned for more on these last couple days ... not sure exactly what they will make of it but it should be interesting ...
  19. This video has some behind the scenes on how it was made. Seems to be all in-house. https://twitter.com/PegulaSE/status/819582240094965760 EDIT: Start at 2:12 or so for the part pertaining to this.
  20. I also remember watching that live (I was 12) and it's still painful. I am just glad it didn't kill Mike Ramsey. Didn't miss by much.
  21. He would still have had to pass through waivers. If he got claimed after not scoring for half a season, he could just as easily have been claimed after a hot preseason.
  22. Seems unlikely to me as well. More likely to me, they are just getting to the point where they aren't thinking so much because they know the system and can just go play. Besides, why the hell would one of the alternate captains need to drop hints in the media to make a point to his coach? They are all adults, isn't it more likely they just have a conversation? Call me crazy ...
  23. Bylsma said yesterday was just a maintenance day for McCabe, the defense pairs should be the same as last game. Also said Carrier had the flu so he may be out. I cannot imagine Grant staying on that line. That is just Carrier's spot, and if he can't go I bet they reshuffle at the morning skate.
  24. Oh, I forgot to mention I have no idea why the hell the PK is a giant cluster, though. Perfect example of a chance to try something -- anything -- because it can't get much worse. For all the other details we are dissecting, if the PK was average we're probably thrilled with their record. So again ... not trying to defend Bylsma too much.
