Now that we're losing again, he's still lecturing anyone who is pro-Tank but he's also saying he picked the Sabres to finish 29th. So basically he has the moral high ground for predicting the Sabres will finish where the pro-Tank fans are *hoping* they'll finish. Or something. He's really splitting hairs at this point to say the Tank is bad and that he's better than those fans. I think Reinhart's play at the WJC rattled him.

Marner isn't the hero we deserve, he's the hero we need right now. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a Dark Knight. (Gary Oldman would be a sweet GM. Imagine that at the podium on draft night.)
-
He's never been considered elite because no one ever thought he'd light it up the way he is now. 5'10" is the same height as Pat LaFontaine. I think it's fine to re-assess rankings and statuses in the year leading up to the draft.

The ASG is a popularity contest and it has been for some time. By that standard, he earned it. And who cares? ASGs are a relic of the 20th century. It used to be that it was rare to see the stars from other teams play. Now everyone can watch every game on their TV, computer, and phone. No one should be upset that Zemgus is going to participate in a sporting event that will have less substance than a game show (because at least the people in game shows care if they win).

Marner is making a push for elite status, and he already might be considered that if he was 2 inches taller (6').

Derek Roy is a beast.

Would love to get ROR this summer to speed up the rebuild after the Tank is complete.

I doubt we'd even keep talking to them if the offer is that bad. Chalk that up to optimistic speculation from the Wings reporters, I think.

It would honestly be awesome if a team tried to call up someone else's prospect.

Success.

So if we want McEichel, I guess we make that Myers to Detroit trade. -

Jhonas will fix this. -
Hamilton wanted Vanek to be captain for a long time. He thought he'd step up his game with the added responsibility. Sabres eventually did make TV the captain but it was a couple months after declaring they were all about "suffering" so who knows? In addition to Hodgson's leadership potential, he also had one of the most dominant WJCs ever after he was drafted. Sometimes even the can't-miss prospects miss.

We're going to win tonight. Sabres are due for a completely inexplicable win. -

This is spectacular. -
Seriously, tomorrow night's game has 'loss' written all over it. Which basically means they're coming away with 2 points.

Wut? Just take what you can get. If it's second round picks, maybe use those to move up at the draft. Or to trade for a guy like Gorges.

Could they fetch a 1st from someone else? Stafford doesn't seem much different from Perron in terms of numbers. Stewart's game seems like a better fit for a playoff run. Totally agree with the bold. Smart move for Edmonton, and nice return.

So the three offensive coordinators we're interested in for HC all just happen to have hall of fame QBs. (I'm being generous with Luck but you get the idea.) Is it too much to ask that we find a bright young college coach with some new ideas versus an NFL coordinator riding the coattails of a great QB? Pretty much agree with all of this, although I'm still happy Marrone is gone.

So Zacha would also be better than all 2014 forwards then too? What about Strome? Tell us more! If you're talking to scouts you're basically going to have to start posting every day in this thread.

Well, duh. If Reinhart isn't better than each of those guys, we're in some trouble as an organization. But he'd probably still benefit from some AHL time. Risto and Girgensons did, and it seems like Armia and Grigorenko did as well. I don't want to be like the Oilers (or even the last couple years of the Regier Sabres) where we're rushing guys to the NHL just for management to make a statement about how smart they are.
-
We'll already be adding Armia, Grigorenko, Larsson, and maybe even Schaller up front. I wouldn't mind letting Reinhart start the season in the AHL.

What's weird is that I've met a bunch of people over the past ten years who were pretty sure the Bills had won 1 or 2 of those Super Bowls. So maybe that's a plus. Outside of WNY, there are people who just assume it's impossible to make it that many times and not win. New Year's Resolution: Next time I meet one of these people, I'm not correcting them. I'm going to bask in the glory of our imaginary Super Bowl win. Like I do when I play Madden.

Reinhart, Baptiste, and Bailey should be a good start. Hopefully they can find another Tim Schaller type or two as well.
