We got a first round pick for Gaustad because he's tall.

You're right. Everyone is stupid, especially the imaginary people saying the things that none of the actual posters in this thread are saying.

All four links indicate a deep draft, but none of them reference the legendary 2003 draft. And for good reason -- that would be a crazy high standard to live up to.

I've seen a few people on this board say this but I've never seen it written anywhere else. I think this draft is special because of McDavid and Eichel. And after that it's an ordinary draft.

Conjuring up a straw man and then pummeling him on the internet is fun.

I think Deslaurier has done a lot to change the culture from last year to this year. We're a more cohesive, meaner team now and he's a part of that. Fasching could be top 6 or nothing. He's off last year's pace but I still like his skill set. We also gave up two 2nd round picks in the trade. Those could determine who won the trade as well.

I wish McCabe and Pysyk were playing as well as McNabb right now.

GDT: Panthers @ Sabres, 12/13/2014, 7:00 pm, MSG

Harrington is old school and can't cope with the fact that regular fans can talk back to him on Twitter. Don't they understand that he is the professional sports watcher? HIs opinions matter! -
Translation?

I'm madly in love with the idea of the Sabres getting Dylan Larkin. With Girgensons stepping up this year, Reinhart cruising in the WHL again, Grigorenko doing well in the AHL, Compher doing well at Michigan, and then Larkin off to a stellar start at Michigan this year, the Sabres would have the best center situation that I can remember. That would mean the Sabres can go straight BPA with their four draft picks in the top 40 come June 2015. The only drawback is that our defense would suddenly be very suspect with Myers gone and Pysyk and McCabe both struggling this year in the AHL. We'd definitely need another trade to shore up our D with someone we can build around long term.

Trade one, sign the other. The problem is picking one. A month ago it was obvious that Neuvirth is the one that stepped up and won the job. Right now it's obviously Enroth. Maybe we trade the hotter goalie to maximize our return and hope the other one steps up.

It's cute how everyone still assumes the Sabres will finish with a top 5 pick. We're back to making a glorious run to 9th place this year.

Is anyone still mad about the silly video with the penguins?
-
Love the Bruins and Ducks ones.

Buffalo and Toronto had a nearly identical primary color for over two decades and it wasn't an issue. They could again if the Sabres ever get their act together with a true blue and gold. Seattle being navy blue and Vancouver being royal blue is probably different enough.
-
There's a solution to this. Also, if the Seattle NHL team isn't named "Thunderbirds" and doesn't have this look, it's a fail.
-
Buffalo highlights this difference too. Next time you're at the airport, take a look at all the "BuffaSnow" postcards, t-shirts, mugs, etc. on sale. We're really proud of our winter culture....right up until we're not, I guess. I saw Matthew Coller, Lindy Ruff's Tie, and some others on Twitter going off about this last night and by the time someone posted the video, I was expecting something really nasty and snarky. It was just a silly video. The funniest part (going by crowd reaction) was when the "residents" of Buffalo turned out to be penguins. I hate the relatively new movement where people feel empowered when they're demanding apologies from people they've never met. This is a gigantic glob of nothing.

Seems crazy in retrospect but in the moment I was pretty confident that Girgensons was going to punch through Paquette's visor. Maybe next time.

Best part of the season. Possibly the best moment of the past 3-4 years, honestly. -

Girgensons is a barbarian. Zadorov laughing in the penalty box when they put him in was awesome. -
If we're only on track to once again be a one-round wonder that sneaks into the playoffs each year and is completely outmatched, there's nothing to get excited about. I want the Sabres to be a powerhouse someday. Not some pitiful borderline playoff team and not even a good team hoping to upset the elite teams. We've had maybe 1.5 seasons of that since 1980.
-
Nothing to gloat about yet. So far neither Grigorenko nor Armia has done anything in the AHL as good as what Luke Adam did in his first season there. I want to believe. But I don't yet.
-
No, he didn't. He brought in Gionta to be the captain and Gorges and Moulson to make us good. If he wanted to be a little more respectable this year but still tank, he F'ed up. Now let's see him find some superstars later in the draft or through trade.
-
This may be ill-advised given the fact that we're Buffalo, but I'm already counting on him as a legit no.1 center in the league. The problem is, that still won't be enough. We need elite scoring and that means someone among Grigorenko, Armia, Fasching, Bailey, Baptiste, etc., is going to need to step up as a legit first liner if we're ever going to contend. (Or maybe someone we draft in 2015 but that's looking like it could be a mid-first round pick, right around where we got Grigorenko or Armia. Oh boy.)

If watching that game made you feel like you were in Heaven, what happens when we have a team that actually plays exciting hockey?
