  1. He likes buying; I wouldn't say he's good at it. He overpays and hasn't brought anyone in that has overperformed.
  2. The starting point was a historically bad team with a ton of future assets. Murray made a bunch of trades to accelerate the rebuild and they haven't worked. If the only thing he does is draft Eichel, we're probably about in the same place in the standings now. There are people on this board that could have done better.
  3. We probably did, and we still weren't this bad then.
  4. The subtext behind everything he tweets is that fans and teams are stupid and that everyone should just listen to wise reporters that work for newspapers (other reporters don't count). He's a dinosaur who can't accept that it's a much different media landscape in 2017 versus 1997.
  5. No tank roster had a defense this bad. Let this sink in. The defense now is worse than it was when we were *trying to lose*. Tim Murray, ladies and gentlemen.
  6. Harrington is an imbecile. He's been trash-talking Eichel this week and he just finished no.1 in the league in assists for February.
  7. No, it's becoming impossible to find any reason to think his ability to identify defensemen isn't completely awful.
  8. In Murray's defense, he's only had 3 years to work on this.
  9. And Nashville basically got him for nothing from Washington.
  10. If we're trading a forward prospect, it'd better be for a prospect of equal quality at defense.
  11. a) Moulson, Bogo, Ennis b) Those are all forwards and we currently have the worst defense that I can remember (and I'm including the Tank years when I say that) c) It's a terrible approach for basically everything from building a hockey team to saving for retirement. d) There's not much to like.
  12. Definitely agree with the title of this thread. Unfortunately.
  13. Per WGR, Lehner didn't play "as a precaution" because he took some knocks in the game against Colorado. Hopefully he didn't get concussed on any of those hits but, given his history, that's pretty alarming.
  14. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say we're selling.
  15. Yeah, but he looks like Dwight Shrute and sometimes he gets grumpy and mouths off so he must be an awesome GM.
  16. Why? Our defense is astonishingly terrible.
  17. You can start selling now, Tim.
  18. The little kid in a Sabres jersey behind our bench looks shell shocked.
  19. Everyone please come to terms with the fact that he's not going to sign an extension with the Sabres on the Sabres' terms. He's going to ask for an extension that is bigger than Okposo's. We can't have him for just the next five years because he'd never sign a 4-year extension. Our choices are: Trade him now Trade him this summer Trade him at the next trade deadline Lose him as a UFA next summer Re-sign him to a 7-8 year deal that is probably worth $6-7M/season and kicks in after next season and lasts until he's 33-34 It's completely understandable if you think that last option is still our best option but let's not pretend a 4-5 year extension is something he'd be looking for. He'll be 26 when he hits UFA. This is *THE* contract for his career. He'll want to get paid.
  20. Why would Kane sign that? I can't imagine he'd have the year he's having and then ask for a smaller contract than what Okposo got. Assuming he finishes the rest of the season like he's been playing the last 3 months, he'll be looking for 7 years at $7M/season. And if he hits the open market in 2018, he'll probably get it.
  21. Two more years of Ennis and Moulson, and three more years of Bogosian make it tricky. I hope we're actively doing everything we can to find a way to send at least one of those guys out of here. We'd be looking at long-term contracts for ROR, Okposo, and Kane, maybe a long-term RFA deal for Eichel, and probably a bridge deal for Samson. On defense, the only big contract is Risto. So we can make it work but 1) it's the same problem we have now where all the talent is up front and our defense struggles, and 2) does it leave us flexibility to do anything else? We have other RFAs (McCabe, Lehner, Foligno) and still have holes on defense. If we're going to cement our big contract situation for the next 5-6 years, we should be sure it's one that can get us to balanced roster that can contend.
  22. Did anyone else catch Bailey jumping up and down as he walked from the bench down the hallway towards the locker room?
  23. I like Dan Dunleavy.
