  1. Let me rephrase: If he's found to be injured, the league's in on the scam. If he's found to healthy, nothing will result because Leafs, and the league's in on the scam.
  2. Bettman's gonna make him turn his head and cough. If he's found to be healthy, this could get a little interesting.
  3. That summer sucked. Sabres eventually settled that grievance (ie, paid Numminen) and re-signed him to another contract, but definitely not the organization's proudest moment, even if it was (maybe) a defensible technical interpretation of the CBA at the time.
  4. Plus the Sabres production team and equipment has to operate out of the truck parked in back, which I think is leased. If they have fixed production facilities at the Cap, then this becomes a no-brainer.
  5. I'd take that over Milbury or JR any night of the week. The guy's knowledgeable.
  6. Marco Polondella Matt Tennyson Vojtech Budjik Zack Yikel Two of these names are real and are on the roster. One of them is the correct answer.
  7. You gotta believe me: he's far from the worst in the league. There is much worse. So much worse. We're spoiled with Rick. He's dynamic, exciting, knowledgeable, lovable, and even for a homer, professional. He's a Hall of Famer. I know Dan isn't exciting, especially compared to RIck, but he's far from the worst. A year ago, somebody somewhere tabulated the worst/best. Buffalo somehow only ended up 10th (we're easily top five). Paul Stiegerwald, everybody: Calling the wrong score: Hobey Baker death in joke in poor taste: Bitching about the Islanders: Stiegerwald was pulled from the booth this year. And that's just one guy in Pittsburgh. Fox Sports PTDucks' broadcast is dogshit from top to bottom. Bruins' Jack Edwards is such a homer it makes my ears (and referees' ears) bleed. Mike I-Fall-Asleep-When-The-Opponent-Scores Haynes still has a job in Colorado. The list goes on and on. We have it really good in Buffalo.
  8. I believe that Botterill would consider holding off on announcing Jack's contract as to simultaneously announce him as the captain of the team, which would be more appropriate to announce after camp.
  9. Support the team and players by buying and wearing gear if you want. TONS of fans of all ages wear player jerseys for all sorts of reasons. Wear it proudly if that's how you feel. You should be comfy about how you celebrate your team, what you wear, and why. And hell, if you want it as a collectible only, you can always frame it, maybe get it signed. I know of an extremely tiny fraction of fans that say "I won't wear another man's name on my back," but in general, those guys are weirder than the rest of us. Other fans I know don't have a favorite player or don't want to shell out cash for a jersey of a player they think might not be around in a few years, but they will wear a blank to support the team. Still a minority though. Once the contract is signed and the captains are announced, I'm gonna get an Adidas Authentic Eichel. It'll probably be the most I've ever spent on Sabres anything. I'll wear it and love it like I have all of my other jerseys. I have jerseys that I'll love for the rest of my life, like my Wisconsin jersey, which I wore to every game when I went to school there and got signed by the seven key members of the team (Joe Pavelski, Brian Elliot, et al) before they won the 2006 NCAA Championship. After the Sabres win this whole thing, you might still be wearing that jersey in 20 years with some pretty fond memories.
  10. FWIW, Authentic Adidas jerseys are now available on shop.NHL.com. MSRP $250 with name and number. $180 without. I think that's cheaper than the Reebok MSRP with name and number (thought Reebok was MSRP $250 not incl name and number), but I'm not sure. If you're in the market and depending on the player, remember to wait until the captains and alternates are announced (usually 1st week of October).
  11. I think he's shown us a lot, but the team hasn't proven anything. I also think the organization has shown us a lot, but the team hasn't proven anything.
  12. Oh, I've been out of grad school for years. And it might be fair to say that if I wasn't hooked on the good stuff before going to Scotland this year (I was), I definitely am now. I was just curious how you'd rank the three, regular Jack of course being at the bottom, but I got it from context: SB >> GJ > Jack. I support this thread broadening into recommended whisky mixed recipes.
  13. I take it that you like Single Barrel better than Gentleman. How's it compare? I haven't had the SB yet, but Gentleman was my "fancy" whisky when I was poor in grad school.
  14. Seattle and Oak View Group (Jerry Bruckheimer, et al) commit $660M to renovating Key Arena to land NBA and NHL franchises. This was always going happen and everybody wants it, it was just a question of how long it would take. Article mentions NHL team playing as early as 2020-21, which likely means an expansion draft in June 2020.
  15. I think Zemgus can be a really good player under the right coach. I'm happy with this wait-and-see deal.
  16. The game will always be here and will welcome you back with stick taps and pucks to put in nets. Never forget you love it.
  17. Think of it as a game: can our expectations of him be any higher than right now? How likely is it that he exceeds our current lofty expectations? If the answer is "not very likely," then there's no penalty to him to extend now - and there could be risk (injury/poor performance/disaster) in not signing now. If someone wants to pay you $Texas to do something you love where you want to do it, you don't tell them to come back in a year, especially if it's unlikely that you'd get paid more then.
  18. Nah, but it lends further evidence to an 8 year deal and getting a contract extension this offseason. While not unexpected, these are both good things.
  19. Wait, is there no password recovery via email for user accounts? Why not just tell users to remember their registered email addresses?
  20. Congratulations. Glad you had a good time at Chelsea. I'm good friends with someone in that photo, but I'll let you guess who that might be. edit: And as proof I'm not with you, not that it was really necessary, here's the same photo from a different photographer.
  21. This is what makes the deal for me. I didn't want our management to be short sighted and give a middling short term contract that exposes Lehner to UFA in case he performs to our expectations nor did I want them to be foolhardy and go big money and term with some other large signings coming up in the next two years. The fact that this contract retains Lehner's RFA status is as much a wait and see on other players on the roster as it is Lehner, and the decision on whether to go big and long term on him is based on more data about both him and the other players vying for the cap pie. Extremely smart asset management with salary fairness to the player and a sharp eye for the big picture long term.
