  1. Give in to 11mpg, and ride in style. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSOQ4da7yvA
  2. I'm confused by this argument. The NHL is better to watch than the modern olympics, but the old-school olympics were better to watch than the modern olympics because there were no pros and less advertising? That's nuts. Olympic hockey should be the highest level of competition between nationalities with the best athletes alive. In some sports, that means professional athletes. It shouldn't mean the best athletes alive that weren't good enough or old enough to play professionally. As for advertising and commercialism, it's infected every aspect of spectator life. Deal with it.
  3. You're right that the technology exists, but I'd rather have the refs looking for penalties in near-goal situations than struggling for ice position to determine if the puck crossed the line. Think about how bad some early whistle calls are when the puck wasn't frozen, then apply that level of ######up to determining goal line crossings. You'd almost have to rely on video review for the correct call in so many situations, and that'd get pretty annoying. It's easier just to pay two fat guys in blazers to eyeball the line.
  4. VICTORY! AWESOME TANK-ON-TANK ACTION! I wore my Oilers jersey. It worked.
  5. FLOODGATES OPEN
  6. Enroth starting in net, Omark on the 1st line, Ruhwedel in the top pair, and Scott and Varone both in? The tank is strong in this one. ONWARD!
  7. With the exception of their obvious selections high in the first round, the Oilers don't seem to draft that well. That could be the fault of Kevin Lowe and Craig MacTavish.
  8. Lottery numbers, for those interested: Chances of drafting 1st OR 2nd overall: Finish last: 100% (25% chance of 1st overall, 75% chance of 2nd overall) 2nd last: 43.8% (18.8% chance of 1st overall, 25% chance of 2nd overall) 3rd last: 14.2% 4th last: 10.7% 5th last: 8.1% 6th last: 6.2% This illustrates yo me why we need to keep rolling out the tanks. If we let Edmonton slip by us into last place, our chances of drafting top two drop by almost 60%. If two teams slip by us, our chances of drafting top two drop by more than 85%. Maybe you say that drafting top three is more important, because whatever. Then the numbers shift: Chances of drafting 1st OR 2nd OR 3rd overall: Finish last: 100% (25% chance of 1st overall, 75% chance of 2nd overall) 2nd last: 100% (18.8% chance of 1st overall, 25% chance of 2nd overall) 3rd last: 58% (14.2% chance of 1st overall, 43.8% chance of 2nd overall) 4th last: 10.7% 5th last: 8.1% 6th last: 6.2% There's a little bit of an oddity: you have better chance of drafting top three if you finish 3rd last than drafting top two if you finish 2nd last. In other words, 3rd last has less of a chance of being bumped down than 2nd last. I understand mathematically why this is, but not whether that was by design.
  9. Not to take away from how bad this roster is, because it is, but I wonder how much effect the altitude difference has on players. Is this merely a 5-1 game if the backcheckers aren't sucking wind on the odd-man rushes?
  10. He is playing soo bad. And that's why we need him the most. He's driving this tank all over the league.
  11. I look long and hard at the draft picks to see if next year's draft is so good that I should give Buffalo a top four pick this year instead of a top eight pick next year. And then I lick a window because I'm a backup goalie, and I don't have the proper organ to make those kinds of decisions.
  12. Saw that last night on a replay at the bar. Nearly spit my beer out. I respect Nashville as a fanbase. It's them against the world, and they're holding their own. It's refreshing, as Atlanta, Florida fanbases, et al, never impressed me.
  13. Yes, the quote adds to the irony. But, for fun, I'll counterpoint with another Pattonism. "I don't measure a man's success by how high he climbs, but how high he bounces when he hits bottom." Time to hit bottom. Haha, he'll prevent countless draft picks from being prematurely labeled busts. He's a hero.
  14. Report is that "he's out until after the Olympic break," but that need not mean he's out for 3.5+ weeks, it could mean that he's only out until at least the the Sabres' last game before the break, which is only seven days away.
  15. One of them must be better than the other. I want that one.
  16. Moulson should drink some cranberry juice. Wait.
