Lots of times many of us feel great when teams we don't like ###### it up big time. Huge, spectacular losses in critical games, coach firings, complete team meltdowns, line brawls against other teams, hilarious goalie ###### ups, bad puck bounces, enormous hits against guys we hate,,, the list keeps going. We know how much it sucks when it happens to us, but we know it's hilarious when it happens to other teams. Some of these moments help us in the standings or give a better chance of winning, but many have no tangible effect on our team. My personal enjoyment doesn't include seeing guys injured, but pretty much everything else is fair game. What are some of your favorite spectacularly ###### moments that happened to other teams that you enjoyed? . Open net. Marchand on the receiving end: The Flyers firing Ken Hitchcock eight games into the '06-'07 season, after being routed by Buffalo 9-1. There's so many others...

Probably not, but I don't know what the "zero tolerance" policy is, if that exists.

Two thoughts: a) That said, he's at least a capable coach, teams will interview him, and somebody will hire him. (If he's fired by the Penguins) b) Bylsma comes off as more of an X's and O's coach (see: Babcock, Vigneault, Maurice), not a light a fire under your ass coach (Sutter, Tortorella, Roy). His motivational power (read: getting every last drop of effort out of a player) seems weaker than some, which could be contributing to the problems in their bottom six. I believe Nolan is (and has at least partially demonstrated) the latter. I also believe we want that style of motivational coach for our young players. They'll learn to work hard, develop good fundamentals at the pro level, and learn the level of effort required to win. X's and O's are important, but that comes later once young guys learn how to play in this league. Nolan's probably among the right head coaches for what we're trying to accomplish in the next few years.

Is that why we don't win? The other rosters are nothing but varying incarnations of the son of god?

It's my understanding, maybe from Petey's stories, that it's the borderline guys who tend to believe that they need the extra boost more frequently (generally) than the established guys. If I were to venture a wild-ass guess, it could be pseudoephedrine, the common active ingredient in Sudafed and a well-known prohibited performance-enhancing substance, historicially popular among NHL players. Sudafed PE contains phenylephrine as the active ingredient, which is not on the prohibited substance list.

Absolutely a possibility, I know. Maybe I'm getting paranoid, but I just want them to have as little incentive as possible to do otherwise.

######. It would be in our benefit to not rank any forwards above Ekblad. That way, if Florida wants to take the best available player, they'll take Ekblad, leaving us our choice of all forwards.

Playoff victories are always great. And there's been some really, really outstanding games. But there's a few games I hold very dear. Here's one. But I specifically remember going to game six of the first round of the 2001 playoffs. This was the squad that was headlined by Satan, Barnes, Dumont, Gratton, GIlmour, Zhitnik. The Flyers had eliminated us the year before in the first round, and it was payback time. We were up 3-2 in the series, after two OT victories for us, but we had let the Flyers grab the previous game. It was a Saturday afternoon matinee game. Nobody was prepared for the complete ass whooping that the Flyers were about to receive in game six. We score first, about 2:30 into the first period, and that gets the party rocking. Then Cechmanek seems to lose all motor function and we score three more goals in the last seven minutes of the of the first period, going up 4-0. By the third goal, the crowd is completely off its rocker and going bananas. There's no stopping it now. This pain train had no brakes, and Dumont's breakaway goal early in the 2nd period to put us up 5-0 was the evidence. The Sabres would finish off the decrepit Flyers by bludgeoning them with a rock, final score 8-0. Eight goals on 26 shots. The home crowd just ate it up, and we partied all night long all over town. It was glorious. Every Flyers fan in attendance was eternally shamed- there were several Flyers jerseys found in trash cans around the arena. A year later, the Flyers would be eliminated in the first round again (by the Sens), scoring the fewest goals in a five game series ever. This resulted in head coach Bill Barber's prompt firing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JX4R2DWVhs8 Box Score: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/hockey/nhl/boxscores/2001/04/21/buf_phi/ Article: http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/cup01/games/2001-04-21-bufphi.htm

I wasn't an every-single-day fan back in '89, but I could see being affected by Malarchuk's injury. Watching a man's life ruined by a game. As a player, I both sympathize and empathize. I was pissed after No Goal. We all were. It felt like the league would never let us win. Bettman was public enemy number one. When Hasek requested a trade and that no good players be returned to Buffalo, we knew it'd be a long while before we competed like that again. We knew. Elimination in '06 was a punch in the gut, partly because we deserved to win that series and we could've gone on to beat a weak Edmonton team for all the cookies and partly because Carolina fans had wrongly thought they accomplished something special by beating a team with an AHL defense in game seven and we had to have our injury-ridden faces rubbed in it. Not the lowest point, though, because we still had a sick team that we knew would get healthy. Until a year later. We knew on D-Day, July 1, '07, that we'd lost something special, again. The history of releasing quality free agents continued to repeat itself for the nth time, despite our hopes being built up with the prospects of having a billionaire owner. It was for ######. We realized he saved the franchise from moving but doomed it to mediocrity. People might point to Regier saying we needed to endure suffering while he blew up the team, but 20 years from now, I think that won't be considered a low point. That could be heralded as the turning point. The conscious decision to do what needed to be done to shape the next 15 years of the on ice product. Betting what would be the next five years to save the following 15 from mediocrity is one hell of a gamble, and whatever the outcome, it'll be a scenario studied by general managers across all leagues.

Correct. Even in dirt beer leagues, the handshake (after every game) is pretty much universally hallowed.

That would be lovely.

So the Rangers were down 3-1 in the series, and Ken Campbell writes the article in Hockey News calling it for the Penguins: "Season's Over for the Rangers, Now It's Time to Look Forward" http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/seasons-over-for-rangers-now-its-time-to-look-to-the-future/ We all know how that turned out. So he learns his lesson and apologizes profusely for shitting all over the Rangers before the games are played. Except, wait a minute, he doesn't do that at all. Instead he goes ahead and thrashes them again and calls for the winner of Boston/Montreal to pound them, while getting butthurt about the criticism he attracted in the process: "Rangers Deserve Credit But They'll Lose Eastern Conference Final" http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/rangers-deserve-credit-but-theyll-lose-eastern-conference-final/

Did you think today's 18 year olds were going to play like 24 year olds tomorrow?

Not surprising.
