Oh, I know they exist. I watched one of my captains split that guy's nose open on Sunday. Gennnnnerally, speaking, I haven't run into that type of player in the leagues that are limited to seniors, though. But I haven't played many Massholes either. Has nothing to do with it. Your opponents (and teammates?) are being unsportsmanlike . And if someone (refs? league?) doesn't curb it, some will get hurt, not from an accident, but from an on-ice malicious act.

Sounds like it was a bad night. Refs aren't doing their jobs. Captains aren't doing their jobs. Slurs should result in suspensions. Fighting should result in suspensions. Submit a written complaint to the league. Try to give them a chance to correct it. If they fail to act or at least hand down guidance to the captains, feel free to walk. Also, if this is a USA Hockey league, feel free to write the local Hockey Officials Association (NYSHOA?) with your concerns about the referees' failure or success in addressing racial and gender slurs. If they aren't USA Hockey refs, urge your cheap-ass league to use USA Hockey refs. Try not to be automatically turned off to coed hockey, but do feel free to avoid scumbag teams and leagues and seek out clean, fun teams and leagues. Unfortunately, once you're past the lowest level rookie/beginner leagues, the next level of adult hockey has two types: the "we're here to develop as players, have fun, and play clean" type teams and leagues and the "we think hockey is inherently dirty and it's eye for an eye because we don't know any better" type league. The latter is vengeful, belligerent, commonly disrespectful to the game, and often unsportsmanlike with opponents. This is most potently evidenced in the slurs and brawl at the handshake line. Have hope, though. Alternatives do exist, and good, fun, respectful hockey is worth seeking out. I've also noticed as you go to higher levels of hockey, the unsportsmanlike nonsense tends to be reduced, as players more often know how to play hard without playing dirty or disrespectfully. It's not universally true, but it does trend that way. I'm not sure how old you are, but also consider senior leagues (35+, 40+, 45+, etc)- they should be old enough to know better, and many of them are banged up worse than you are.

I think it's still handy to maintain a good veteran presence on the blue line for a couple of years until we're irrefutably convinced that all of our young guys are ready to play big, hard minutes. Not doing so has been the plight of both Edmonton and Colorado.

Just wanted to pop my head in here. I've been busy, but I have been reading and enjoying these high level posts. I like the concept of challenging the player of interest (O'Reilly) not just by saying another player (Saad) is better, but smartly tearing the two players apart and comparing the pieces. I was also hoping Blue would utilize WOWY, and I was not disappointed. Other neat bits in there: -Buffalo talked to Tony Granato about reuniting him with Bylsma, but he'll stay in Detroit under Blashill. -Detroit was previously unwilling to trade 1st rounder or Mantha, but has now changed positions pre-draft.

Agreed. It's a gem for the franchise and the community, and we're going to be able to do some really nice things with it.

Bio's milkshake brings all the boys to the yard. And they're like it's better than yours. Damn right, it's better than yours. She could teach you, but she'd have to charge.

Pass on Sharp. Too much downside and the timeline doesn't fit. Hard no on Kessel.

I'm goin'. edit: I'm actually getting excited about this. I've been to the draft before (LA '10), but this draft is going to be an excellent send off for this god awful shitfest of a (pair of) season(s).

Jack Eichel will be fine. Murray can buy him (under the table) a case of Bud Light. Or maybe introduce him to Blue Light to blow his fro to the back of the FNC. I don't mind the public call-out a little bit, actually. Eichel says he wants to be the best. GMTM wants him to prove it in the NHL, not the NCAA. Fair deuce.

Shrader lives in his parents' basement, surviving only by eating freshly-microwaved Hot Pockets too quickly and furiously batin' to NHL mascot furry porn. "Yeah, SJ Sharkie, Mick E. Moose doesn't like that, does he-OW MY ###### MOUTH GOD ###### DAMN YOU HOT POCKETS!"

That interviews a good listen. One more bit that stood out, referring to the 21 pick: "I'd certainly like to move up." If we picked 2 and 10-16ish, that would be titty sprinkles. Yeah, the ZFG quote about the offer sheets is: "It's within the rules, and if you get a certain GM pissed off at you, well, really, who cares." I'm starting to really, really like Tim Murray.

Be honest: Dumbest hockey thing you ever posted

I genuinely thought Bucky Gleason could succeed in following in the foot steps of Jim Kelley. He wrote so authentically about his admiration for Jim. I also thought the signing of Leino, who would've been the second best player at center available that July, was a brilliant move. It was a good move on paper, according to game theory. Let the suckers fight to over overpay Mike Richards, we'll get the next best guy. If only Leino played center ever. Or played at all. I was very resistant to shitting on Drew Stafford for a loooong time. I finally broke, crapped on him for a couple years -even when he was good on the line with Ennis and Foligno for a moonth-, only to watch him flourish with Winnpeg. He was a barometer of the quality of the team, and not a total up. Many know I supported Regier (and Ruff) for a long time. I don't apologize for that, BUT I did think Regier was capable of taking us through this monster of rebuild; I was ambivalent about his(their) firing. In retrospect, we'd still be in a great place with draft picks, but we wouldn't have Kane, and we might still have Ron Rolston. Oof. Tim's more interesting. Bylsma's qualified. With the upcoming big moves, the roster is poised. The fan base as a whole is mentally healthier with the new front office crew- and that's a factor I had underestimated. There's a lot of hope in the fandom right now that wouldn't have lasted or reignited under the old guard. I thought Raffi Torres wasn't great, but was going to make a nice addition to the team grit-wise. Oops. I thought Brad Boyes could score 30 in Buffalo. I thought Dimitri Kalinin could learn to be the powerplay quarterback we were missing at the time. It's like a confessional in here. It's a nice environment for self-accountability, which you don't see on message boards that often, especially sports-related message boards. -

There's an outside chance I might go to the draft. I might be in FL that week for work. I've been to drafts before (LA 2010), but I hadn't considered going to this year's until the opportunity presented itself. I'll see if I can swing it.
