  1. Sitting next to the Buffalo table. Got my blank road jersey and beard on. Shook hands with Duffer. Kinda funny: Darcy is at the next table for ARI, Lindy is at the other next table for DAL. Had a horrific daydream where Boston trades 13,14,and 15 for 2. They would kill to get Eichel in Beantown.
  2. Hopefully the fire cools down a little bit. Lehner was drafted in 2009 when GMTM was AGM in Ottawa and GM in Binghamton. It can't be known if GMTM was the reason he was drafted, but it's possible. Lehner was the 2nd goalie drafted in 2009 at #46 (6'6" Koskinen from Finland at #31 who fled from the Islanders back to Finland after his ELC). Was IS known is that Lehner was brought to the AHL asap to play for Binghamton and became the starter almost immediately before gettin callups to Ottawa. That would likely be the result of GMTM as GM of Bingo. Tim's been watching this kid since before the 2009 draft. If any GMs know him, it's him and Terry Murray. We knew Tim was going to make a move on a goalie soon. I didn't think he would risk next season to the decisions of the free agents or the other GMs trying to sign goalies. I speculate that Tim was given first right of refusal on Lehner by Terry. As Duffer says, almost apologetically, if Lehner is the player Tim thinks he can be, we just got a good deal. He's the right age too- he should develop on a similar timeline as the other kids.
  3. Nice thought. Black said in the TBN article that you can force a reduction in the number of back to backs because you can't play the night before an afternoon. Harrington noted humorously that it might be to keep the kids off Chippewa at night.
  4. Weird that we don't see new division rivals Florida after game 53 or Tampa after game 15. Can't imagine how that came to be. The afternoon games may be by design, if Canisius or another team (Beauts?) plays Saturday nights at the HarborCenter. Now, NHL scheduling shouldn't take a backseat to these games, but it may be that NCAA hockey doesn't allow for Saturday matinees after playing Friday nights? (NCAA usually plays home weekends consisting of Friday Saturday pairs of games)
  5. On jersey numbers:
  6. He's a stone-cold psychopathic killer. He takes no joy in expressing pugilistic rage, but does not hesitate for a split second to go into left-right-left-right kill mode. I mean, look at this . Look at his eyes. And who can forget his first bout in the end-of-season trasher against the Islanders: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifa8-AkovuU
  7. We are so stacked with fluid assets, including picks, prospects, players, cap space, and roster room that we're capable of just about anything. We'll definitely address goaltending, but maybe not until July 1. We'll also take a goalie in the draft, potentially in the first two rounds. That 21 and 31 pick give us the ability to trade up, down, sideways, diagonally, or into the fourth dimension. I think we could see the acquisition of two players, one considerable and one minor or prospect, before July 1.
  8. Hope is morphine.
  9. Yep, TM said they're letting him hit UFA, and maybe they'll come back to him.
  10. Terry Murray coached the Kings from '08 until '12. According to wiki: "When the Kings won the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals under current head coach Darryl Sutter, they requested the NHL to have Murray's name included on the cup, but were denied by the NHL."
  11. This is where Bogo is now. This is what I think Bogo could develop to be, even on a contender. He's a 3rd overall pick, and he's only 24 (younger than Myers by 6 months).
  12. Sounds like someone could start a house league that expels .
  13. Oh, I know they exist. I watched one of my captains split that guy's nose open on Sunday. Gennnnnerally, speaking, I haven't run into that type of player in the leagues that are limited to seniors, though. But I haven't played many Massholes either. Has nothing to do with it. Your opponents (and teammates?) are being unsportsmanlike . And if someone (refs? league?) doesn't curb it, some will get hurt, not from an accident, but from an on-ice malicious act.
  14. Sounds like it was a bad night. Refs aren't doing their jobs. Captains aren't doing their jobs. Slurs should result in suspensions. Fighting should result in suspensions. Submit a written complaint to the league. Try to give them a chance to correct it. If they fail to act or at least hand down guidance to the captains, feel free to walk. Also, if this is a USA Hockey league, feel free to write the local Hockey Officials Association (NYSHOA?) with your concerns about the referees' failure or success in addressing racial and gender slurs. If they aren't USA Hockey refs, urge your cheap-ass league to use USA Hockey refs. Try not to be automatically turned off to coed hockey, but do feel free to avoid scumbag teams and leagues and seek out clean, fun teams and leagues. Unfortunately, once you're past the lowest level rookie/beginner leagues, the next level of adult hockey has two types: the "we're here to develop as players, have fun, and play clean" type teams and leagues and the "we think hockey is inherently dirty and it's eye for an eye because we don't know any better" type league. The latter is vengeful, belligerent, commonly disrespectful to the game, and often unsportsmanlike with opponents. This is most potently evidenced in the slurs and brawl at the handshake line. Have hope, though. Alternatives do exist, and good, fun, respectful hockey is worth seeking out. I've also noticed as you go to higher levels of hockey, the unsportsmanlike nonsense tends to be reduced, as players more often know how to play hard without playing dirty or disrespectfully. It's not universally true, but it does trend that way. I'm not sure how old you are, but also consider senior leagues (35+, 40+, 45+, etc)- they should be old enough to know better, and many of them are banged up worse than you are.
  15. I think it's still handy to maintain a good veteran presence on the blue line for a couple of years until we're irrefutably convinced that all of our young guys are ready to play big, hard minutes. Not doing so has been the plight of both Edmonton and Colorado.
  16. Just wanted to pop my head in here. I've been busy, but I have been reading and enjoying these high level posts. I like the concept of challenging the player of interest (O'Reilly) not just by saying another player (Saad) is better, but smartly tearing the two players apart and comparing the pieces. I was also hoping Blue would utilize WOWY, and I was not disappointed. Other neat bits in there: -Buffalo talked to Tony Granato about reuniting him with Bylsma, but he'll stay in Detroit under Blashill. -Detroit was previously unwilling to trade 1st rounder or Mantha, but has now changed positions pre-draft.
  17. Agreed. It's a gem for the franchise and the community, and we're going to be able to do some really nice things with it.
  18. Bio's milkshake brings all the boys to the yard. And they're like it's better than yours. Damn right, it's better than yours. She could teach you, but she'd have to charge.
  19. Pass on Sharp. Too much downside and the timeline doesn't fit. Hard no on Kessel.
  20. Sabres Fan in NS isn't actually from Halifax, he's Steve the Newfoundlander.
  21. K8's the type of guy where you KNOW he's done some jail time, you're just not sure whether it's a meh misdemeanor or a PMITA felony sentence, and you don't want to call him out on it, in fear that he'll knife you in front your kids. in' sociopaths.
  22. Ha. I can, if that's what the populous demands.
  23. I don't care to consort with those of the robot race.
