  1. They don't need the "original identity" per se, the jerseys would suffice I think. Vancouver is wearing the "Millionaires" jerseys later this season.
  2. I don't think the Heatley NMC is a big obstacle if that were the true deal. While he has the ultimate say, I think both Heatley and the Wild understand that Heatley isn't the same player who earned the NMC all those years ago. If there is any mutual respect between them I think Heatley could be convinced to do what's best for the team and move on to the next chapter of his career. I also heard before that once a player waives his NMC once it's voided for good, but don't remember if that was confirmed as true or false -- wouldn't he have had to waive to go to Minnesota from SJ?
  3. For what it's worth, I remember when Murray was introduced he spoke of how he doesn't like to wait around -- something like he "gets the information and makes a decision", doesn't sit around waiting for the market to set or something. I don't remember the exact quote.
  4. you guys are giving all these nobody bloggers and wanna-be eklunds the attention they're looking for today. maybe we'll learn something at the big press conference today.. lmao!
  5. All joking aside though, the article posted above says: "According to the Post, both O’Reilly and the Avs have agreed to play out this season and discuss a new deal in the summer." That makes it sound like the Avs have already made up their mind not to move him, doesn't it? Or was that more of a generalization "we'll see what happens and talk about it his summer?"
  6. just so you guys know O'Reilly can't be traded until 2/28. Something about not being able to be traded until a year after his offer sheet was matched.
  7. "A club cannot absorb more than 50 percent of the players’ annual cap hit/salary in any trade. Any NHL club can only have up to three contracts on their payroll in which the contract was traded away under the retaining salary proviso. Also, only up to 15 percent of your upper limit cap amount can be used up by the money you have retained in trades." - Pierre LeBrun as quoted in this article. I'm not doing the math on the cap percentages, but they can retain salary in one more trade this season so long as they don't eclipse "15% of [the] upper limit cap amount." Just posting for clarification since nobody seemed quite sure.
  8. Proven talent. Big name athletes. Star players. Not some Joe Blow first rounder who most casual hockey fans outside of Buffalo have probably never heard of.
  9. In some ways, sure. But big picture, it's exactly the same. It's their job and their profession. And although we think they all live such glamorous lives, they put in more work, travel, time away from family, etc than probably any of us do. So they get paid a lot more, but it doesn't mean the same principals don't apply. But regardless -- leave d4rksabre's comparison out of it -- it is still completely ludicrous for a 19 year old who has proven nothin other than that he ISN'T NHL ready, to demand a spot in the lineup.
  10. Uh, yes, really. If you think a 19 year old has the authority, over the organization that took ALL 100% of the risk in drafting him, to decide where he plays, you're out of your mind. there is a process -- not everybody goes straight from the draft to the NHL. you have to respect that process, regardless of ego size. still bogus. you don't vilify someone for not panning out, especially when it's largely due to injury. he never did anything bad to the city, or the people here. Craig Rivet didn't do a damn thing production-wise for his entire tenure here (minus 1 playoff gwg in game 1 vs Boston) but nobody really hates him. the hate for TC is completely unfair. in all but one season as a Buffalo Sabre, he scored more points (40+) than any current Sabre is on pace for this year. Sorry he got his head rocked a few times, and dealt with other injuries that most people wouldn't even bother coming back from, but if you hate TC, you're lying to yourself. it's not his fault, it's Darcys. a very few players from each NHL team are "known" for their work ethic. and as far as i know you didn't play on the 2006-2009 Sabres, so you know nothing about his off-ice personality. don't buy into that guy who calls the radio and says he saw TC kissing a dude the other night
  11. A player trying to force a team to play him in the bigs is irrational to me.
  12. which is f***ing bogus because Tim Connolly never did anything other than try his hardest and work his way back from every injury that got in his way. certainly nothing as demeaning/selfish/disrespectful/etc as Grigorenko has done today
  13. this whole exchange gave me a good laugh. as for the situation as a whole, i can't add much that hasn't already been said. the kid says he wants to play in the NHL -- if he does, he will go to junior, and then Rochester, and work his way to the NHL. if he doesn't, he will hold out and/or find a way to go to the KHL or another overseas league and we never hear from him again. that's pretty much all there is to it. We could trade him, sure, but after drafting him that high, there's no way you get near-first round value in return.. i'd rather take the risk that he figures it out and decides to work his way up, than trade him for a 2nd round pick as some have suggested.
  14. the only thing i don't like about it is that we waived tropp only to send 3 guys to AHL two weeks later. but i'm over it.
  15. not a big deal. “He’s going to be a little different kind of send down, he won’t be there a long time, he’s going down for a few days and then they’re going over to the Spengler Cup and he’ll rejoin us right after that. This is the best way to get him some quality minutes and develop him mature wise.”
  16. Well it's not like it's the kids' first year playing hockey. The people who scout them for a living have an eye for talent, I'm sure most teams already have early projections for the next two or even three years of draft eligible players. At this time last year we were all well aware of MacKinnon, Drouin, Jones... Barkov became a mainstream name shortly after. Didn't take long for Nichushkin, Monahan, etc to enter the mix. The only household name people know this year is Reinhart and I'm guessing anyone who isn't as hardcore a hockey fan as most of us are wouldn't even know that. I don't watch any junior leagues so I have limited knowledge on up and coming prospects, but I think it's safe to say this year's draft doesn't really compare with last years.
  17. New player, hope it's not too late to jump in! 200 on Buffalo please.
  18. Yup, embarrassing for the ump to allow that to happen. I can't believe the Yanks didn't retaliate at some point. I guess winning is a little more important, but you know if it was the Sabres who didn't retaliate for a cheap shot they'd be getting grilled up and down this board today.
  19. I agree with both of these posts.
  20. Brunner is 27. (Not to be a stickler.)
  21. Lol, not quite as awkward as the nathan gerbe reference in Law and Order, but a close second
  22. ^ Pretty much my assessment as well. Garth is a good read, he actually covers the team like a news reporter but offers insights and ideas like a blogger. He doesn't go throwing rumors around that much. He is one of the few who makes posts on that site that are worth reading.
