And I think you may be over-simplifying the matter. He's a terrific talent, sure. But, for starters, what of the overall architecture of Beane's roster and salary cap model for the franchise? Does McDermott's approach favour the signing of a high-price-tag stud edge rusher? Given McDermott's apparent preference for rotating fresh players in on the D-line, I'm not so sure.

interesting.

Well, now, maybe you are coming from the "hometown guy" "it'd be so damn cool" angle, at least in part. I trust Beane and McDermott to stick to their plan, and try to make it work (hopefully it will). If Mack fits into that plan, then go get him. But, please. We had our Mario Williams episode. I don't need another splashy FA signing just because the guy's an absolute beast, etc.

I think this is right. And it really does remain to be seen whether inadequacies as a 2-way player will limit what he brings to the Sabres. Can't say I'd recommend kissing that guy's jock in any event -- never know whether that skin condition could be contagious. Beat me to it.

Good point. It is the same everywhere you go, as you say.

I hadn't focused on that, actually. It's more than fair to infer that there was some sort of quid pro quo with the real estate firm. My guess: Howard Hanna's PR person pitched the story to an editor at TBN. And maybe Howard Hanna will now increase its placement of ads in TBN in the coming months.

Not sure. The reporter is a general business beat reporter - he reports on a wide variety of stuff. Honestly, I should just withdraw the original observation. "Newspapers" are under such duress that whatever they're doing, within reason, to drive clicks is probably okay. It used to belong to Losman.

TBN piece was an 800-word story that, in the physical paper, was published above the fold on the front page of the Local section with a cropped photo of Eichel and Whaley.

That's the one.

Dahlin and Mittelstadt Playing in The Fattey League Tonight.

Watch the clip. He's in a dark jersey. Comes in at the end of the play. Probably not even playing "D" in that game. But whatever. -
I'm down with this, but not for any of the story line line reasons (because it just feels right, or would be cool, or whatever). I'm not saying that's where you're coming from, btw. I'd want it to happen only if it truly fits into what the team is otherwise trying to do. Like, would Mack be able to take over for Alexander? And would paying that position that amount of money fit into what the team wants to build? If so, have at it. If true about his off-field stuff, it is a somewhat curious acquisition. I am really hoping he stays healthy and lights it up. Btw, someone Tweeted (is it upthread too?) about how the Bills blew it when they traded with CLE to get Watkins, and so now it's almost like payback plucking a talented young WR from them for next to nothing.

Miller's house was/is an absolute beaut. I also recall when he lived in some apartments on West Ferry -- they're set back a ways from the street. Between Delaware and Elmwood. That was back when he was trying to rock an anonymous MySpace account and talk about grocery shopping. Losman lived on Oakland for a while, I think. I think the noise of his drums (???) prompted a move to one of the early luxury condo renovation projects downtown.

I've been around her several times - at events, fundraisers, games. She always came across as genuine and kind to me.

It disturbs and amuses me that the 3rd or 4th thing I thought after watching and re-watching this clip lats night was something to the effect of "pi's gonna be on the board tomorrow saying that if #15 had been even an AHL-level defenseman, Dahlin would have been knocked silly coasting across the middle like that." -
Lord, that's damning with faint praise. I suspect that all traditional newspapers are desperate for cheap, clickworthy content. I'm not saying there's not a market for the stories -- it's just sorta sad to me that that's where they're devoting resources.

It is difficult to imagine the possibility that a man like Ross, who Forbes estimates is worth some $700 million, might steal a few million from one of his business partners. Unless you have heard enough stories about Ross. Two former WL Ross colleagues remember the commerce secretary taking handfuls of Sweet’N Low packets from a nearby restaurant, so he didn’t have to go out and buy some for himself. https://www.forbes.com/sites/danalexander/2018/08/06/new-details-about-wilbur-rosss-businesses-point-to-pattern-of-grifting/

I find it more than a little sad that this is what the local paper of record chooses to cover.

This is what I had in mind. I seem to recall several very strong games from him once the new QB arrived. Of course, it seems safe to presume that no one was scheming for him like a true #1 for those games. But he has never projected as a stud WR1.

There was some more, but your recollection isn’t totally off. Obviously, my “yes please” contemplates better health for Coleman. Also, Goodwin has shown in SF that he can be a useful NFL receiver.

She is still working for PSE. (I might be missing the joke here.)
-
I know it's a bit of apples and oranges - but it looks like Reinhart survived that sort of problem. The Yards Per Pass twitter guy says that Coleman really looks/plays like a bigger, somewhat slower version of Flash Goodwin. I say: Yes, please.
-
I trust he won't get the Nicholas Picolas treatment. (Which was, and remains, so great, btw.)

Per Pergament at TBN: Rich Gaenzler, aka "Bull" on 97 Rock, is replacing Lauren Hall as the Buffalo Sabres' in-arena host for this upcoming National Hockey League season. He will be expanding his freelance duties, as he also is the in-arena host for Buffalo Bandits lacrosse games. "I haven't signed any papers, but it is done," Gaenzler confirmed Monday morning. "I'm pumped and I can't wait. This is a huge opportunity for me. Just by virtue of the team being better, the atmosphere in the building will be even better." The change in hosts is part of a planned overhaul to the Sabres' in-game presentation at KeyBank Center, a source said. Hall had been the in-game host for the Sabres for the last six seasons. Her primary role is as a multimedia journalist for Pegula Sports and Entertainment, contributing to digital coverage of the Bills and Sabres. She left Channel 4 in May 2016. +++ Not for nothing: It was widely rumoured that Ms. Hall was one of the people caught up in the Russ Brandon tawdriness. I wonder if she did or said something in connection with that investigation (e.g., an attempt to cover up) that caused the Pegulas to sour on her.

It’s something, I guess. The guy’s fast, and is a recent 1st round pick. The Bills gave up a later rounder for him. Here’s hoping.
