They don't have to make the playoffs for Phil to keep his job, but, man oh man, they're gonna have to improve markedly for him to do so. I'll call it a warm seat.
-
Which is why I posited causation/correlation. Gotcha. Yeah - I can definitely see certain fan bases being part of what drives a guy out of town.
-
I quite forgot about this.

I voted Skinner. I could have done so based on the fact that I was/am totally done with Kane. I recognize that Kane was 110 mph and a physical force. I am also adamant that he was also dumb as a box of rocks out there -- just no real hockey IQ. (Shoutout to that guy in the section over from us who, exasperated, screamed at Kane last season when he was yet again gumming up Eichel's zone entry: "GET OUTTA THE WAY, KANE!") I hear that Skinner, like Kane, likes to carry the puck. But I'm banking on Skinner being a smarter player, who finds and takes better shots and who can creatively generate chances as well.

Sorry, I don't follow.

I wonder if that take conflates causation with correlation. Or something.
-
Do fans actually run players out of town? Honest question.
-
He'll probably want more than that - in terms and money. But that's close. I love reading this stuff, nodding sagely, but having no effing clue what it means.
-
Ah, so. Hey - that's significant.

Okay, this one was solid.

Please don’t let me be misunderstood: I was asking a question there, intended to understand if the poster actually meant that. I think it’s a fantastic value proposition. I don’t understand this at all. The team traded just a bit more than a proverbial bag of pucks for a year’s worth of a top-6 left winger. It’s a feckin’ pittance!
-
Agree with what? That a fungible prospect and lottery-ticket draft choices are a high price to pay for a proven 30 goal scorer? (What is happening here?) Moulson’s money (not sure how much at this point) rolls off too.
-
Cliff Pu and non-first-round picks are a high price for a year of a 30 goal scorer?
-
I’m not sure he’s fat enough to be our Kessel, but I definitely see what you’re saying.

Thanks. In-season trades seem infrequent in the NFL. Or is that a thing of the past. It would be amazing if McCarron became a trade asset — I don’t think I see it, though, given the scheme and talent.

This is America.

Whoa - that was fun and very well done.

Do teams ever trade NFL QBs for value in-season at the deadline? I can't recall that happening. But, yeah: Ideally (to me, anyway), McCarron is the starter this season, he gives about the production that Taylor gave, the team has 5 wins going into Week 16, and Allen gets to start in Weeks 16 and 17 or something (and shows well!). Saw someone Tweet about how completion percentage (the advanced stat they use for it now - can't recall it - adjusted throw ratio or something? (I am partly kidding)) for Cam and Wentz is pretty bad, but that those guys are both pretty good. I dunno, man. I feel like you want that guy who can be highly accurate.

This is the Larch.

I can only think of SNL's Restaurant Enterprise sketch when I hear about Khan.

I tried to read it. I really tried. I almost got through it. Interestingly (?), I follow a Twitter account that just spits out random passages from the book. And I frickin' LOVE it. It's amazing. You probably consider this a throwaway, but this, to me, is one of the 20 greatest posts I've ever read here. So great.

Effin' A. Very cool. I saw that Liverpool (the club I support) was balking at 60M (whatever that is - euros?) to bring him in this summer. Which I get. Liverpool is probably (likely) a top-10 club in the world right now. Pulisic would be a sub for most matches. That's a lot of money for a sub. But it seems to me that the marketing opportunities an English club would have would more than offset the transfer fee. Dammit. Missed this one, too. Oh, well. Another time.

OTT be chiseling them mofos.

So winning a title entitles management to pay for past performance, manage poorly. Got it. Feels like we’re into midsummer weirdness around here.
