  1. Been stated upthread, but the biggest thing Mahomes has going for him that Allen does not is an innovative, savant-type offensive mind scheming and calling plays for him. Reid takes a lot of guff in the Twittersphere and such for his weaknesses (clock management, I guess), but that guy designs an offence and calls plays like no one I can think of. It's not too far to call him a genius in that regard. I low-key love Andy Reid. Also helps Mahomes a ton that Smith was the QB last season. And then you have the surrounding cast. Outside of QB, that's easily a top-10 (likely top-5) offence in KC. Buffalo's O. is for sure the worst offence in the league, outside of QB. I liked what I saw from Allen. He looked raw. Made mistakes. But he also looked like he could become a good NFL QB. Probably not great, I will admit. But a good QB who will occasionally boom, occasionally bust, and most times be good enough.
  2. DeGroat, or da goat?
  3. A lotta moving parts, as they say. But getting a tax-advantaged salary has to be in the mix a lot of the time when a FA is deciding on where to land. How'd this start? That Panarin wants to go to a team in Florida?
  4. Has it? https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/2017/07/14/location-tax-rates-can-have-big-impact-on-contracts-value/103700802/ Raiola cites former Utah Jazz forward Gordon Hayward's recent deal with the Celtics as an example. Boston and the Miami Heat could have offered Hayward essentially the same contract, but Hayward would have made more in Miami due to the different tax rates in Florida and Massachusetts. Of course, that would depend on where he had taken up residence. .... Packard says he has a client who was choosing among three teams last year. Packard said a team from a state without an income tax offered his client the lowest salary, but it actually turned out to be the most lucrative deal once taxes were taken into account. Packard says teams located in places without state income taxes use it as a leveraging tool and make players well aware of the advantages of signing there. In the NBA, that would include the Heat, Rockets, Orlando Magic, San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks and Memphis Grizzlies.
  5. I'm sure lifestyle is a part of it. But I'm also sure as eggs is eggs that getting to keep more of the money you earn has, y'know, something to do with it too.
  6. Tampa and Panthers, along with Las Vegas, apparently have tremendous tax advantages to induce FA signings.
  7. Link? I have wondered if/when law enforcement would look to crack down on some of the more outrageous table-dives. (Like top-roping off the roof of an RV.) I've said it to those who'll listen many times: Someone is gonna die one of these days. General police power, I imagine. Sounds about right. There's all kinds of nooks and crannies in the Penal Law that would arguably allow a Sheriff to put the kibosh on table-smashing. I do wonder, though: Private lots? What basis would the Sheriff have to enter?
  8. Eesh. That's no good. Best of luck to this fella. How so? (Also, please: Smell.) Graham said in his Tweet that there's an audio recording of Harrington very recently "shaking down" (weird word to use) local Athletic writers at a press conference about Graham. pipe down, you.
  9. I think you've dabbled in such insights before. What's/who's your source(s)? Everything about the board upgrade was a complete and total improvement over the prior experience ... except the emojis.
  10. The combination of the deal, the value, the moving parts, and the possible effect on the Sabres got me like.
  11. Just adding my applause to Stars digital media people. I trust the Pegulas will see it -- Kim, specifically. How does she see that and not think that her digital media department is a generation behind what the good franchises are doing with that sort of stuff?
  12. God almighty - a pox on both of them. They need to Thelma and Louise their *arses off the Niagara escarpment.
  13. It's not my area of expertise, but my sense is that prospective employers bear legal exposure if they ask about an employment candidate's medical history (to include mental health). Now, in the realm of pro sports, there's obviously stuff like passing a physical. But I'm not sure the Islanders were entitled to know that Lehner had a mental health diagnosis. What issues were well known? That he was bipolar? Suffering from a mental illness? Or just a huge drinker? Also: Who's the other player? O'Reilly?
  14. Aye yi yi. May God bless this man and his family.
  15. Fair. I’m sure there’s disappointment there. To me, he just seemed braced for the prying questions and was super committed to giving up nothing in response. If this is a 3 or fewer win team, McDermott/Beane still get until late October 2019, imo, at least. The offence is so talent deficient this season, that the Pegulas could easily be swayed that they need to see Allen in year 2 with a better supporting cast.
  16. Matthew Fairburn @MatthewFairburn Sean McDermott said this is ultimately his decision. He said he and Brandon Beane discussed it and ran it by Terry and Kim Pegula. 11:33am · 12 Sep 2018 · TweetDeck Matthew Fairburn @MatthewFairburn Terry Pegula standing on the practice field next to Brandon Beane watching Josh Allen go through routes vs air right now. 12:13pm · 12 Sep 2018 · Twitter for Android
  17. PK’s answer, or Uninterrupted’s answer?
  18. William Nylander's name was not included on the Leafs' list of those coming to camp. I am fairly sure Reinhart's name was included on the Sabres' list. Anything to see here?
  19. Watched ~45 seconds of the presser where he was addressing the move initially. He doesn't seem mad, to me. He doesn't seem as though his hand was forced. Just my sense.
  20. Why, God. Why?! Oy vey. Yep. I have to go watch now. JFC. I'm rapidly trending toward "McDermott is a faith-based idiot." Only thing that can stop that train on the track: If Josh Allen somehow shows well in the next ~6 games. It could happen. I doubt it, though. Easier to take the semantic L here than slag on an apparently shiftless girlfriend. I chuckled.
  21. Gotcha. "Move" also encompasses the possibility of "trade." Hence, my post.
  22. First, you acquire talent through the draft. So, process. Also, the Bills' dead cap situation is so bad that they might have held off from doing more FA for this season. Seriously. Can you frickin' imagine if they trotted Peterman out there? They'd risk mutiny. Move Peterman where? The waiver wire would be the only place that'd take him.
