  1. If he wasn't producing everybody would yelling "BUST! TOLD YOU THEY SHOULDA TAKEN BENIERS!!! blah blah blah Luke Hughes is better!!" In reality he's exceeding expectations and those same folks are now saying "OH HE's ON A SUPER TEAM, HE'S NOT THAT GOOD, HIS TEAM IS PROPPING UP HIS STATS!!!" He could become the first player in history to win World Championship and WJC gold before playing a single game in the NHL. He's an exceptional prospect, let's enjoy the ride.
  2. Nobody cares, take it offline.
  3. thanks for the memories
  4. Branden Tanev is bigger, stronger and faster than Dahlin.... not to make excuses but he's not good enough defensively yet to handle a guy like that 1-on-1 when he has a step on him. It is what it is... he'll be better for it. Also, IMO he did do enough to disrupt him... you'd expect a save there with average NHL goaltending, and in that case were not even discussing this.
  5. can he play goalie?
  6. This is nonsense, he has a 3 year contract. Close this thread until summer of 2023.
  7. Both Levi and Portillo could benefit from returning to NCAA next season, especially Portillo.... who reminds me very much of UPL... same physical stature and plays the same style, gets lost in the crease occasionally and over commits, is slow to recover, etc.. When you're their size you need to have exceptional athleticism to control your angular momentum, like turning a large ship at sea.
  8. ...his career sub 40% face-off win percentage and -28 last season would disagree
  9. Tage has more points and more than twice as many goals as Samson... and a better face-off win percentage that Samson ever had at any point in his career in Buffalo..... (and a better TRPM 😎). And he's doing all this while playing center, a position Reinhart consistently struggled at.
  10. Leadership is self-evident... one does not simply anoint someone a leader... you anoint your leader as Captain.
  11. He has a very hard shot but it's the quickness of his release that surprises goaltenders. He's also much more accurate with it than in years past, and doesn't always try to go bar down. I, for one, expect his goal scoring exploits to continue.
  12. I still think KA dropped the ball on goaltending. As someone who's played at a high level, if you don't trust your goaltender you've already lost. You can't play instinctively and free if you feel like you can't let the other team shoot. It's awful. Dell should never play another NHL game. I don't understand how he can preach about work ethic, heart and wanting to be here, then doesn't even give them a chance with the goaltending situation. It's just a matter of time before the players mail it in for another lost season.
  13. Will the real UPL please stand up?
  14. Tage does some things exceptionally well... shooting, above average hands, skates well for a big guy. If he continues to round out his game he could be an important piece, even on a stacked team. He'll need to stay healthy, continue to put up points (he has more points than Sam Reinhart who many here were clamoring to play center), and improve at the little things (faceoffs, defense, leadership). He has a fantastic tool set, he's maturing before our eyes
  15. He sucks. Tuuka Rask is an UFA coming off hip surgery to repair a torn labrum. He wants to sign with BOS tho. "I was told originally that the timeline for him to return to play -- wherever that is, whether it's Boston or somewhere else -- would be January to February. I guess the best I can tell you is he's on target for that," Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said Tuesday.
  16. Dallas as a plethora of goalies.... Bishop, Oettinger, Khudobin, and Holtby. Bishop is on LTIR.
  17. A couple issues here... There was 20s remaining when Thompson attempted to freeze the puck in the corner. Too much time left to try that. But there were other issues leading up that play. Thompson came on the ice around the 30s mark for Okposo who was out there with Girgensons and Asplund. Olofsson replaced Asplund and Skinner replaced Girgensons at around the 20s mark. Thompson and Olofsson rank in the top 5 TRPM... OK.... but Skinner? Hagg and Bryson were the d-pair... why Hagg? He's 3rd worst TRPM on the team and should've been stapled to the bench the final 2 minutes in a close game. At the 25s mark Hagg has the puck on his stick at the Sabres blue line. Instead of clearing it up ice along the wall he inexplicably bats the puck into his own corner on his backhand, then proceeds to lose the initial puck race and ensuing 50/50 battle. 2 Sabres and 2 Rangers lock up in the corner. Bryson attemps to fish the puck out, leaving 2 Sabres to cover 3 Rangers in the zone. Not faulting Bryson here, that's the right play IMO, but you absolutely must win the puck in that situation. He fails initially, continues to poke at it until the 6s mark when Hagg helps Thompson gain full control. Instead of rimming the puck, Thompson tries to freeze it again. Skinner is open on the half-wall, Bryson anticipating a rim behind the net. Now, as a former player, Thompson has no idea how much time is left, so guys on the bench or the goalie or other teammates etc... are yelling at him how much time is left and I guarantee some of them are yelling at him to just eat it. He tried, but failed. At 3s Skinner drops down with the pinching d-man. Bryson caught in no-mans land below the goal line. Hagg has his man pinned up against the wall, smart. Olofsson... instead of tying up his man is simply puck watching about 2 feet away from his guy with his stick in the air. Poor positioning and in that situation you need your stick on the ice in the passing lane, hockey 101. Lindgren seeing that only 2 Sabres are above the goaline, smartly drops down into the crease all by his lonesome and the rest is history. Final thoughts: Blame can be shared all around. Granato... why is Hagg out there? Skinner? Olofsson? IMO Granato didn't anticipate a line change with that little time remaining and they just rolled lines at that point. Girgensons-Okposo-Asplund were already on the ice, maybe they stay on for the final 20s instead of changing at that point with the puck at your own blueline. Not a smart change, not a smart play by Hagg to bat the puck into his own end. Can't really blame Bryson or Skinner here... maybe Bryson does a better job communicating w Thompson... yells "back" or "rim it" as Thompson has no clue how much time is left. He also should've either fully committed to the puck battle, or back off and get his stick down to prevent the puck from squirting out front.

  19. I know I know, Sam is gone who cares what he's doing down in FLA... BUT as a critic of his I feel a regular update on his performance is warranted 😎 His last 10 games (FLA has scored 37 goals over that time): 1g, 3a, -2, 15 sog For the season he's accrued a TRPM of -5... tied for second worst on FLA.
  20. haha yeah i'll watch... only after i mow the front lawn and water the plants by my pool 😎
