  1. I guess "mentally" wasn't the word I was looking for.... spiritually maybe? Needs to have more of a fighting spirit... like O'Reilly who just never gives up on plays ever love that guy, need to see more of that in Reinhart.
  2. Cut the sarcasm... we all know there's a special place in your heart for Matt Moulson. That said, I expect to see Ullmark get some action tonight... just do not have a good vibe about this game... especially the first period. THis team has been off for 4 days, I imagine it will take a period or two to get their legs moving, but by then it could be curtains because of the goalie situation.
  3. Hold on a minute. You're the one who specifically asked for his 5v5 shots/60min just a few posts up. I provided said number, now you say it doesn't mean anything...... hmmmm, why is that? Maybe because it didn't back your argument that Moulson is dead weight on this team? After 10 games you'll say we need 20, after 20 you'll say 40... c'mon man, with all due respect, I expected a better response from you. And I can only imagine how you would've torn him to shreds if he was somewhere in the middle. Give him some credit, yeah, it's only 4 games, but guess what... he's leading the team in even strength shots/60min which is better than lagging near the bottom. Is there something specifically that you don't like about his game this season? I think he's been one of our top forwards all around and I don't see any reason (barring injury) that trend won't continue.
  4. They need a 7th d-man with the team. Who else is there? Would you rather have Strachan or Falk or Fedun? Nelson is already 24 years old, it's not like he needs development time in Rochester.. and he's probably the best skater available at that position in the stable. His approach to the game needs to mature. He's not taking the bull by the horns so to speak. I love the way he thinks the game, but sometimes he needs to dial back on analysis and dial up the intensity, desperation. Analysis paralysis, eg that OT play against CGY.
  5. http://stats.hockeyanalysis.com/ratings.php?disp=1&db=201617&sit=5v5&pos=skaters&minutes=1&teamid=4&type=individual&sort=ishots60&sortdir=DESC Moulson, at 10.87 sh/60min is first... well, second to Kane, who is out obviously. Reinhart is 8th at 6.39.
  6. I'm sorry but that makes no sense. Generally speaking, it's not a good idea to pair 3 slow players together as a strategy. If anything it's a bad idea as ideally you have at least one guy on each line that can skate.... to get in first on the forecheck and provide back pressure when the play goes the other way. The obvious reason for the move is that Moulson is generating the highest sog/min on the team. More minutes on the top line means more shots on net. Reinhart isn't a shoot first guy, Moulson is. They need a trigger man on that top line.
  7. $2100 1 unit on Flyers
  8. Typically Eichel's injury only requires 10 days in a boot. Wonder if it's more serious. And Kane can start moving soon? What has he been lying motionless for the last 10 days? I guess thats good news. I wouldn't consider Reinhart small, he's 6'2. He needs to grow up mentally.
  9. I'll concede your point about the +/-, I wasn't really thinking of it that way. However, I will say that traditionally forwards are judged by offensive output... easy to track goals and assists. Judging defensemen is more tricky, which is where the +/- stat originated... to track the effectiveness of defensemen. Up until the 2007-2008, there was an NHL award handed out for the player with the best +/-. In fact, defensive stalwart Thomas Vanek won the award in 2006-07... wait. a. minute.
  10. There was the serial ass grabber, and before that there was this much much more serious incident here in Orange County... http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2013/07/30/oc-mom-sentenced-to-time-served-for-molesting-sons-hockey-teammate-13/ ...my kids were not involved, they were much younger at that time, but I know people who had family members involved and coaches. It wasn't a one time incident, it was going on for months apparently. In the early 90's, when I was in college, I was sexually harassed by my older sisters friend. I was living in the dorms at the time and she would show up out of the blue and try to break into our room, kept calling our room non-stop (this was before cell phones) and would physically assault me when she had the chance and it wasn't just an ass grab. It went on for weeks and didn't stop until I threatened to call the police. My sister thought it was funny and my friends blamed me for it. Times have changed.
  11. Haha, he would have to be invisible in the d-zone. I certainly wouldn't offer him an 8-year deal.
  12. Risto has never had an Orr/Coffey like season, nor do we expect him to. However, he's in his 4rd NHL season, I do expect to see him improve his +/-. It's one thing if he's on a terrible defensive team with a huge minus team goal differential... but he's not. BUF as a team was -21 in goal differential... the fact that, relative to the team goal differential, Risto was a -21 tells me he needs to improve defensively. There are several plays this season where his mistake lead directly to goals, and not against guys like Crosby or McDavid... guys like Gallagher and Tkachuk... I expect our #1 d-man to shut those plays down or at least don't make the turnover which leads to those goals. Matt Moulson has had three 30g seasons so it's not out of the question that he can repeat that performance on a top line with the way he's playing. That's fantastic! I hope he keeps up the offensive production while cleaning up his defensive miscues. Defensemen defend. They're down low in the zone and they lead the break out. Generally speaking (system agnostic) any breakdown down low, or turnovers on the break out, lead directly to scoring chances the other way. Over the course of an 82 game season if your best defenseman is severely in the red +/-, that's doesn't speak well for his ability to defend. That said, if Risto was -10 or less, then yeah, that's likely just a product of his competition and who else he's on the ice with, not enough of difference (from zero) to make any generalizations about his ability to defend. But when he's the minus 20's and 30's two years in a row, that means something.
  13. ...and who are these guys who just go straight for the ass grab? I mean, yeah, there's probably some small % of women that works on, but really that's the best game guys have these days? Whatever happened to working your way up to that, like engage in some conversation, see where it leads, start with a thigh or hip grab see how receptive she is and go from there.
  14. Yoga pants are designed to give butts a nice shape, women know that and they wear yoga pants as "active wear" because it's trendy and makes them look good and feel good about their bodies. My wife has a zillion pairs of them, and she's the one who told me how they work to lift the butt and round it out. Like I said, it doesn't give anyone the right to ass grab, but I think there's some likelihood that the serial ass grabber doesn't grab that woman's butt if she's not wearing yoga pants.... again I'm not saying any of this is her fault, women should be allowed to wear whatever they want without the threat of being assaulted.
  15. Matt Goalson is a -1, I blame Risto for that ;) Actually I don't weight +/- as heavily for forwards as I do for defenseman... especially young defenseman who are a career -80 something.
  16. There was a parent on one of my kids hockey teams who we still call "The Serial Ass Grabber". So all the hockey mom's wear yoga pants these days.. at least down here in soCal anyway... so ###### are regularly on display, it's just the way it is doesn't give anyone the right grab we all understand that. Anyway, this one Dad would frequently be seen grabbing another Mom's ass as she stood by the glass watching her kid play... then laugh it off like it's some big joke and just a prank or whatever... like every game and practice he would do a single grab and laugh or whatever as he walked away... she seemed mildly annoyed at it, just kind of play it off as no big deal or whatever.... her husband was rarely around for whatever reason. Lone behold that guy is no longer allowed at our two local rinks and last we heard his kid with his 4th different hockey program in the last 4 years.... the guys a bigot as well, so we were all glad to see him leave. AFAIK, nobody ever filled an official complaint with law enforcement, USA Hockey, or what have you, but I can see where women are sensitive to this type of thing because are there are lots of creepy guys out there. I actually really feel bad for the kid, he's a great player, but his Dad is an , so it's sad to see kids in that situation.
  17. Here me now, believe me later. High ankle flu Risto is struggling, already a -2 after 4 games, but but but but +/- doesn't mean anything... right? So I guess the only logical conclusions is that he's having a great season and worth every penny. Moulson on pace for 41 goals, get promoted by the head coach to the top line. Great minds think alike I suppose.
  18. I wouldn't say Moulson is a no BS first liner... he needs to continue to generate shots and with a decent shooting % he'll produce. He has a knack for scoring goals around the net, his problem last year wasn't that he couldn't score, it was that he wasn't even getting any scoring chances... his shots/gm was way down, he didn't deserve to play with the big boys. Now that's he getting shoots again, he deserves a look with the top unit. I think we can all agree Risto has been a disappointment thus far, I won't go into details, his game speaks for itself. Hopefully he starts showing signs of life here, or we're in trouble.
  19. He's generating shots on goal, second on the team with 11, double his shots/game from last season. I would expect that to tick up even more on the top line. He's earned this.... and he has a history of playing well with Okposo, won't hurt to give it a look for a few games.
  20. lost the VAN game, down to $2100. 4 games to choose from this week. @PHI MIN FLA @WPG Home against FLA on Sat afternoon, then @WPG Sunday afternoon is a brutal turnaround.
  21. Or look at it this way.... Matt Moulson forced DD's hand. He's playing like the 30g scorer of years past, he needs top line minutes.
  22. I have no problem with DDB's assessment of Reinhart's game. Take, for example, the OT play against CGY. I said it some other post... but the idea was that I would have like to see Reinhart move his feet instead of stand flat footed facing the wall looking for a pass. It's basic hockey, get puck, settle puck, head up, move feet. He could probably get away with that play in juniors, but it was a bad play in the NHL. That said, he's a much better skater than he has been, he just needs to use it more.. keep his speed up during a shift, less stopping and slowing down... more explosiveness. Truth be told, you could say that about a lot of players on this team, but Reinhart is a guy they're need to lean on while Eichel is out, so fair or not, the magnifying glass is on him.
  23. Bylsma has finally seen the light... Moulson is playing on the top line with O'Reilly and Okposo. He deserves it.
