Not all NHL players have to be exceptional skaters...

DUH...Of course every player needs the main skill of being able to skate to play in the NHL. Thanks for stating the obvious. -

Maybe I shouldn't have used the term "overrated", but my point stands, a guy with great skills other than skating can still be a really good NHL player. Can't be a horrible skater, but if he is average at skating, he can still succeed. Yes...I do believe a guy like Andreychuk would still be a good goal scorer in the NHL today. How many goals in the NHL are scored off the rush today(where a fast skater would be advantageous) versus a guy like Andreychuk who made a living off of tip-ins, garbage goals around the crease and the PP, all of which do not require great skating skills. Once again, you can't have a team full of skaters such as this, but I wouldn't be quick to dismiss a guy because of his average skating skills. -
Stupid list. I know he put a disclaimer at the beginning, of the list being weighted towards more recent times, BUT, how can Edmonton which has won 5 Cups have a more tortured fan base than several teams that have won NONE, and not even a Cup Finals appearance between them?
-
Not counting the guys who only had a short stint in the NHL, I was surprised that the list is so short. I guess it won't grow much in the future knowing that the salary cap era forces teams to part ways with long time players.

Gibson for Rochester? I'd be shocked if he wasn't full-time with Anaheim next season...maybe even their #1.

IMO skating ability has become overrated. In todays clutch and grab game where more often than not there is little flow to the game, how much of a disadvantage is it, if you are not the fastest skater in the NHL? I'm not saying you want an entire team of guys who skate like they have cement in their skates, but if a guy is talented in other ways, are you really going to kick a player to the curb because he can't skate like the wind? I am sure there are plenty of examples currently of guys in the NHL who can score and are valuable to their team, but aren't necessarily fleet of foot. After all, most players have shortcomings and don't possess all skills(shooting, passing, skating, physical play, defensive awareness, etc...). Two former Sabres come to mind...Dave Andreychuk & Ray Sheppard.

I think he falls somewhere between option 1 & 2. 20-25 point fourth line guy with way more skill than a Rob Ray, and also someone who can fill in on 3rd line and maybe even 2nd line on a short term basis without looking completely out of place.

I like the coaching hires!

The Sabres have offered Grigs a two way deal? He would never pass through waivers, so what would be the point? Trying to force him to take KHL offer? A situation that started with a prospect falling on draft day continues to spiral downward.

I don't expect them to make the playoffs next season, but I do want them to win their fair share of games and be competitive in games they lose. That's not happening with current goaltender situation. Not to nitpick but goaltending needs to be addressed this summer as a priority
-
When Chad Johnson is your only goalie under contract(not counting AHL guys Hackett, Liewen & Makarov) it most certainly is a priority come 7/1.

Going to Minnesota twice in the preseason is really odd.

To make it even worse, 49 years of the SB, and nothing to show for that either. :censored:

The face of the franchise for the first 17 years of their existence, and arguably the greatest and most popular Sabre of all time...the one and only Gilbert Perreault. /thread
-
I won't speak for Liger, but my reference was obviously a joke. ...and the way to make you milestone posts seem more important...start a new thread proclaiming it! :P

I feel bad that your town is losing their AHL franchise especially coming off a championship season. As far as seeing Sabres prospects come to town next year and beyond at the ECHL level, the problem is that most will likely never going to succeed at the AHL level let alone the NHL level. i.e. Jacobs, Sundher, etc... I don't think more than a few of them were even signed to Sabres two-way contracts.

I know there is little to nothing the NHL can do about it(defense first strategy), but it drives me crazy when there is one offensive player crossing the opponents blue line, and is surrounded by 4 defenders. YES!!!!!!! DId you see that 1 on 4 defensive play? Seeing Kane, Stamkos or one of the other offensive stars smothered is much more exciting than seeing a great scoring chance. ...but the game has never been better, right Bettman?

I know what you are doing Hoss...trying to egg on Liger so that he forgets about his post count, and his mock draft is not released for his grand moment of 15,000 posts. I'm trying to come up with my own grand plan for my 10,000 post. An exposé on Battista and his meddling within the organization, or maybe just another post with inane ramblings while I continue to wait for a Buffalo hockey or football championship?

Not trying to be a dick and pile on a newbie, but unless you have NHL Center Ice what Florida city has a TV station contracted to broadcast 20-30 Av's games every year?

Actually these were the thoughts of a neanderthal named Lucic shared while in a beer store in Western Canada. :)

I tried before the Finals even started and I was told play will suffer without the breaks even ones that are non-travel days between games.

What time do doors open for the 2015 NHL Draft? Doors open at 4pm for Day 1 (June 26) and 8am for Day 2. Day 1 (Round 1) runs from 7 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. and Day 2 (Rounds 2-7) runs from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. We recommend arriving early as most tickets are general admission and will be first-come, first-serve for seat availability. A ticket does not guarantee entrance.

Smehlik - Ellis(no one even comes in a close 2nd) Snuggy - McCormick All-time Smehlik - Ric Seiling. Never liked him as a player and having Bossy taken with the very next pick and going on to an all-world career only made me hate Seiling more. Looking at his stats right now, he was a better scorer in his early years than I remember. Still hated him. All-time Snuggy - Matthew Barnaby. There are dozens of others who I could have named over the Sabres 45 year history.
