Uneven. The team went to the conference finals last year (lost to the eventual cup winners) and brought back nearly every player to run it back. And that included a goalie pickup which presumably bolstered the crease. But it hasn’t translated to more wins. Top to bottom, the division is very competitive. I am more bullish on this team than others in the thread. What makes you say that? Is it his recency bias because the Bills hit on Josh Allen and they’re very good? Or because the Bills are the shinier and newer toy? Pegula gets a ton of shade thrown his way in the Sabrehood and I’m not going to devolve into what is fair and what isn’t. You and I also differ on that opinion. But that’s cool. To me Tage was on another level last year. For sure. I’ll get back on track. I just don’t want TNT in the deal.

I guess I should have clarified in a best we’ve seen in a Sabres uniform in the last 20ish years.

I look at it positively. The team is upgrading their house. And there are no Winnipeg-style ownership moaning about ticket sales or attendance while they’re doing it.

I just think we are all sounding awfully thirsty to move on from our best offensive player we’ve seen in 20 years (Briere). And on a reasonable contract to boot. I know you said perhaps, but to dump on him as leading the step back season doesn’t hit right. I think he’s been playing hurt from the beginning of the year til the all star break. I’ll take Tage and that 5MM to spend plus my three first round assets plus Muel over Pett. Now if it was Mitts, three first rounders, and Muel…yes I do that. But only because of the abundance of first round assets we have in stock. I don’t think many NHL teams would be able to match that offer AND can pay for a 12MM player.

I get where you’re coming from, but that deal I replied to is not realistic. But it is fun fantasy hockey speculation.

This would be insane. Elias had 102 pts last year to Tage’s 94. And Tage will make about 5MM less than Pett’s new contract. So why would Buffalo have to throw in the equivalent of three additional first rounders PLUS an NHL defenseman on a reasonable long term contract? That offer doesn’t make any sense.

I don’t know anything about arena roofing, but 30 years seems like a natural life for a roof. The fact that the work is being done means the Sabres aren’t going anywhere for a long time.

That offer is the equivalent of four first rounders. Granted, we can afford it. But it doesn’t seem cheap to me. I guess we gotta spend those picks somehow cuz there isn’t room for everyone. So bombs away. Maybe Dahlin can recruit him.
