Disagree entirely, but then I don't have the Boston hatred you have. Cassidy was right. First period they let more go BOTH ways and it was a great period. The power plays took a bit off the game imo. They called some pretty ticky tacky crap on the Bruins and took away the flow of the game and of course the PP goals turned it around for the Isles. isles got away with tons. No point in comparative lists cause you just hate the Bruins and it clouds your vision.

The German Partick kane is signing (Peterka)
PerreaultForever replied to Buffalonill's topic in The Aud Club
I like him, but the title of this thread raises the bar quite a bit too far. He's nowhere near that. -
That was a good draft, and when you look at the order you see quite a few mistakes too. I mean Getzlaf went 19th and Perry went 28th. You know the Ducks will be hard pressed to ever equal that draft again. Boston actually muffed the first round when they took Mark Stuart but could have had Perry, Kessler, Richards, all of whom would have fit that big bad Bruins model. Drafts are funny guessing games. Lot of luck and hindsight is 20/20. Vanek was a good hockey player, but Getzlaf might have actually gotten us a cup.

LOL. This has to be the most biased one sided comment I've ever seen on a hockey site. Without the help of the refs tonight Bruins would have won this easily. They were by far the better team, but when you get the refs on your side and your goalie makes some huge stops you get to steal a win, even in Beantown. Bruins won't quit in game 6, but unless they get more luck and better calls Isles will be the team to go on and lose in the next round.

Sabres Option: Trading the Pick for a Roster Player
PerreaultForever replied to Eleven's topic in The Aud Club
So you guys want to trade the top pick with a sure thing for a different prospect likely also good? Makes no sense to me. You want Byfield or Rossi or whoever in an Eichel or Reinhart deal sure, I'm all in, but rotating picks and prospects is pointless imo. Power will be a dominant player. Beniers will likely also be very good, maybe great. No reason to not take them. If you're talking about a different older roster player no thank you. Not going to trade a young guy who we can develop for some guy who might pull a Taylor Hall on us if he hates it here. No thank you. Build with youth and give them a proper culture to embrace here. -
So there's this kid in the draft named Power or something like that, might be worth considering.............
-
I don't care about guys thanking the owners publicly, I expect some lying. It's only if he's listening to their hockey advice that it matters. Then he's the worst. As for JBots being the worst, that for me rests on who decided on ROR and Skinner. Was the ROR trade forced by the Pegulas over the bonus? If so, JBots gets a little forgiveness. Did he want to walk away on Skinner's outrageous number but Pegulas said sign him whatever it takes . Whoever chose sign on that is or was the problem. I'm not sure it was JBot. He might have been in a no win situation. His drafting doesn't seem terrible at this point. Better than Murray's. Eklund is a fine little player, but definitely not in the same class as Power.

We could argue about this forever. It's not that Carey Price isn't a huge part of it, the biggest part, but it's many other things along with that. My reason for bringing it up over and over is the building model I am pushing for the Sabres to follow. It STARTS with goaltending and builds out from there rather than top down with goalie as an afterthought as has been the Sabres way of recent years.
-
That was a solid tough well balanced team with great leadership. No argument.
-
Of course not, but it's not just Price. team defense, role players, team toughness, blah blah blah, you know the drill.
-
It is definitely looking like their "built for the playoffs" comments were not just words. There is perhaps a lesson in this for KA to learn.
-
Power gave the puck away in OT and R2 had a chance to win it for Finland so that's it he's out, pick Beniers 🙂
-
Oh damn he's a winner. Well so much for being a Sabre........ Seriously though, I know Mangiapani was added and it made a difference etc. BUT can we not just hire Gallant right the f now??????????????? Crap team of kids and not a whole lot gold medal. Come on, just hire him and get out of his way!
-
weird or wired? Silly IIHF off side rule but otherwise great play. Not drafting Power would be insane.

I have no idea what the trade would be, as there are far too many options here that I could live with so you need to know who the Kings see as untouchable or not. There is no one guy I'd have to have although Byfield would be my first want. If they are too set on keeping Byfield I'd be fine to negotiate into others and add pick(s). I think they're the #1 possible trade partner and sending Eichel far west from Buffalo is a good idea. Don't really want to see him multiple times a year for someone else if he's good for them. Kings do like stars, they do market that way, and they do want to win faster while Kopitar is still a player. This is the best scenario. As far as the health issue goes, you simply add conditions and "future considerations" that give us more pick(s) or prospects if Eichel plays x number of games, Eichel gets x number of points first season, Eichel gets them into the playoffs, etc. a 2nd becomes a first etc. Its an easy fix if they do have concerns. Make it happen Kev.

Valentino's. Hamilton Ontario. Best pizza outside of NY city. The mob eats there so you know it has to be good.

I really liked that Bergevin quote from the other day. Something like "there are players that get you to the playoffs, and then their are players that carry you through them." Speaks to the whole culture/style/direction stuff from other threads. Pageau was dominant in the face off circle against Bergeron. Quite an accomplishment, but of course face offs don't matter 🙂

Taylor Hall gets in a fight. I guess he's been baptized as a Bruin now for real 🙂
-
I'm with you, and I also don't know. I suppose if we really don't want Power (which would be silly imo but it's the Sabres so who knows) they might agree to pick a particular player from our expansion list to swap, or more likely guarantee we pick someone else so they can have him but I can't see anything else happening unless it's extremely creative and off the chart.
-
That can be true, but it's also true that your goalie is only as good as your D. From our recent history both Lehner and Hutton were bad with rebounds and rebound control. Lehner regained his confidence playing on a team with a solid D game that took care of those rebounds for him. Hutton in St. Louis had a similar luxury and when exposed here fell apart. A good D also clears sight lines and blocks shots and makes the goalies life easier and thus they feed off each other. We need a good goalie, but if we build a solid D he won't have to be Hasek for us to win.
-
You're not wrong, and I wouldn't look to do that. imo your left side is set for years with power added. Dahlin is your PP guy and the guy you play more down a goal and Power is your PK guy and guy you play more up a goal (obviously over simplifying). Samuelsson is the 3rd guy who can also move up if either is injured. Bryson is your #7 or depth guy. If, and it's still if, Johnson steps up he can switch sides or we make a trade. It's hardly a problem to be overflowing in D strength.
-
I'm just kidding around trying to make the point that none of these things are guarantees. Read this hockey future talent analysis of Stafford: https://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/drew_stafford/ Lots of similarities in that description to Guenther. I'm not saying that's who he will be, but he is far from a sure thing. Power, on the other hand is at WORST imo Tyler Myers, but more likely a more dominant big minute blueline fixture you can build around.
-
Shifting sides isn't impossible. Boston's been doing it with Clifton all season. Seems to work okay. Also we don't know if Johnson will be any good yet and Bryson is still a question mark imo. If we end up with too many trading one isn't out of the question, but do not undervalue depth at D. Power can be a 30 minute guy too. Don't want to pass up that sort of foundational piece for a possible immediate need forward.

Just want to add one comment about Tage's play. Still the same one trick pony. Reach out and try that wrister for a corner, easy stop almost every time. Nothing else. Kid just doesn't seem to get it. That worked in junior, it's time to adapt.

I suppose he could max out as a Vanek. Not Martin. maybe Drew Stafford 🙂
