Not sure how anyone can get mad about what it took for cup teams. Buffalo has been the biggest component involved in some of the biggest trades that quickly turned into a cup for a team (ROR, Eichel, almost Reinhart). If anything teams should be mad at us for giving away elite talent that usually isn’t available in the trade market to put teams over the top. But really, Vegas getting March and Stone and circumventing the cap is the type of crap that never should have happened.

The trades is what brings the excitement. GMs want to know what deals are available before signing UFAs to fill the holes afterwards. GMs are still holding their cards whether they are rebuilding or not up until draft day. If you move UFA first then bunch of teams are going to just be ready to pick and not deal.

KA went out of his way to praise Bales at year end presser. Think this is a mistake. Our Special Teams and Defense needs new coaching. Analytics say nothing about systems and coaching. Stillman was misused by bad coaching. He is perfectly serviceable and a big part of their late season turnaround. Nobody said he was top4 and it’s quite clear that’s the top of KAs list this off season. There is no ‘just be patient and wait’ on defense like there was in goal that justified his inaction.

It’s fair to discuss the rookies but we have an entire year before any decisions have to be made at all with them. What is clear is that we don’t have room to sign a long term UFA to high dollar without kicking out one of the rookies we have.
