  1. That season we mortgaged our future by depleting our stock of picks and prospects to bring in non-sustainable veteren contracts only to miss the playoffs by a mile anyways. We're only starting to recover now for that horrible asset management.
  2. He gets better and better all the time. Seeing the ice comes with minutes played... Something hes just starting to get consistently under DG.
  3. This type of thinking is precisely why we still suck all these years after the tank. Aspland and Thompson are good hockey players that still haven't hit their ceilings. And most of all, they're cheap....way cheaper than any vets a team would be willing to trade away that have already hit their ceilings and are on the decline.
  4. LA, Pitt, Chi, Wash, TB, etc, etc are all home grown cores of elite talent. In all cases but Wash, they were winning cups based around these cores too. In Wash's and TB's case, their core was still home grown and playing under team friendly contracts keeping them as a cup contender year after year. The veteran's they brought in did not win the cups for these teams.
  5. I know you have a bunch of likes on this, but i dont think I agree with it. Every cup winner is largely made up with players that are/were put into roles beyond their expectation... And in the end they rise to the challenge and succeed. I think that's what we're seeing with the ATM line. In some cases, those kids that exceed expectations eventually become veterans and form the core of their teams. A cup winning team is NEVER made through free agency or through a wiley GM trading his way to the top, which is what it sounds like you and many others are looking for by bringing in "support". Also, on average... Home grown talent can typically be locked up for terms that are more friendly than what it would take to get those players by competing for them on the open market. So, i think we need to continue to give our young talent every chance to succeed time and time again, until we finally hit it right. At the same time, we need to be patient by accumulating and developing as many picks as we can until we build our cup winning core.
  6. He should be on a wing next year protected by one or more defensively responsible centermen. 2019-20 Eichel was good if not very good defensively... Maybe him?
  7. My number 1 concern is he really doesnt call a good game for the radio (TV wise he's adequate). You just can't follow the play with him. Maybe its a being spoiled by Rick thing. Number 2 is he lacks passion for the team. Dunleavy honed his craft as a network guy where he had to be impartial. As a local broadcast play-by-play guy, its his job to be excited by the home team. He seems equally excited when the opposition scores or makes a great play. Maybe he's staying that way as he's got an eye on doing national broadcasts again. Voice wise, I don't mind him and i think he could do a decent job doing TV back at TSN.
  8. I really like Ray too. So what if hes not the most articulate guy. Its entertainment, and I think hes good at what he does. I say that too as someone that didnt like him as a player.
  9. You can't discount the division we're in. Leafs and Oilers would be 6th place in this division going by last year's standings. Montreal... A team we could have passed last year had it not been for the lockdown, is in the 4th and final playoff spot.
  10. How many of those less than healthy teams have lost their franchise player and starting goalie without a viable NHL backup? And of the teams on that list, how many are 9-9-2 in their last 20?
  11. I said in another thread that this is not the worst team in the league. With a healthy Eichel, Ullmark, and another division to play in (but without Krueger), we probably would be just out of the playoffs... Possibly better if we played the ATM'ers all season. The last place finish / high draft position for a team of our caliber is a nod from the hockey gods that our penance has been paid.
  12. This is the first one that is probably better than my original suggestion. Nice job.
  13. The electromechanical version is also pronounced with a short e which rhymes much better with Bedard.
  14. Wright is 17. Bedard doesn't turn 16 until July. I guess that only puts them one draft year apart. I thought it was two.
  15. Ok... New name. Anyhow, to do what the kid is doing at his age is pretty incredible. Shane Wright, the team captain was regarded by some to be the next potential one as an Exceptional Player in the OHL, but Bedard is shooting right past him.
  16. It's funny that the product manufacturers still use the term, and it's widely used in our industry. I'm not here for a fight though... I guess I'll have to take it down.
  17. Here's an example of a manufacturer using slowing down timing in their product literature. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.eaton.com/ecm/idcplg%3FIdcService%3DGET_FILE%26allowInterrupt%3D1%26RevisionSelectionMethod%3DLatestReleased%26Rendition%3DPrimary%26dDocName%3DPCT_1130880&ved=2ahUKEwiUu-_23bPwAhUSB50JHZ2jDdcQFjAAegQIBhAC&usg=AOvVaw0wlfvo4gjC9mq5lED5zNsc&cshid=1620259233741 Variations of timing characteristics and sequences can be programmed for a maximum of four operations. When a recloser is programmed for both fast and retarded operations, the fast operations – involving no intentional time delay – occur first in the sequence according to the recloser’s A curve time-current characteristic. Slowing down operations are according to the recloser’s B or C time-current curve (B, C, or D curve for Types E, 4E, and L). See Time Current Curves R280-91-10 for Type E reclosers; R280-91-8 for Type 4E; R280-91-1 for Type H; R280-91-2 for Types 4H, V4H, 6H, and
  18. Didn't watch it, but we use this term in Electrical Engineering all the time as the definition of a slower circuit trip timing. And i don't think theres a better rhyming word out there.
  19. For anyone following the U18 World Championships Connor Bedard is leading a stacked Canada team in scoring as a double-minor (2 year under-ager). He is likely to be the next in line to follow the Crosby to McDavid line of "generational players". Anyhow, I'm laying out the tank motto for him on this early... And by slow-down i mean play bad... not the derogatory meaning. Too bad the Sabres will be a top team in the league by the time hes draft eligible. 🤠
  20. Is there another team that gives him a more realistic shot at playing in the show than us? I would say we're among the league leaders in lack of goalie depth.
  21. If practice squads are still a thing, we'll need at least 5 goalies between the NHL and ROC, right? I'd put him in ROC with UPL and put Tokarski on the practice squad. Based on what they've seen in practice, I'd guess the team knows more about him that what we've seen in the last 2 games.
  22. I'm not super well traveled, but I've had all the supposed best pizza styles from around North America and I'll take WNY pizza over them all. Unfortunately, that is not an option for us Canadians right now. But i know what I'm doing as soon as the border opens.
  23. Given the rag tag group he had in front of him in Rochester, we might want to give him the benefit of the doubt. His prior stats were good.
  24. For the experts out there (especially those that say we can do better than Granato), I'm wondering what kind of system does Gallant run? He's the one guy i dont know enough about to completely count out. Also, were the Knights that much better off under him than DeBoer? Other than being a big name... sell me on him. Not saying I'm buying, but I'd at least like to hear more.
  25. From an actual systems perspective, I like the North-South quick movement Granato seems to be teaching offense wise. Personally, i think there's no better way to generate scoring chances than to keep opposing team numbers in your favour. It doesnt even have to be an odd-man rush... You'll score way more 2 on 2 than if you wait until its 5 on 5 in the zone. That was the number 1 reason for Ralphs ineffectual offensive. What style do the other prospective candidates typically run?
