  1. Listening on the radio in an arena parking lot but it really ticks me off to think where we could be with league average goaltending.
  2. Still awesome that he scored, but all of Quinn's body language on the first said, "I f'd that one up and got lucky anyways." Still cool that he got a good screen shot off though. Lots of guys on the team would have looked for a pass that wasn't there and turned the puck over.
  3. I mostly agree but the only way I'm making the trade is if the #4D isn't on a high price or dead end contract.
  4. As I type this: The Sabres are 2nd in the league in GF... Yes, 2nd in the league in GF.
  5. No more Whitney Houston?
  6. A lot of people were complaining about not understanding the shooting "heat" diagrams. My complaint about the charts in this post is it's so hard to read the small fonts in the evolving hockey. The other thing is I prefer hard numbers to standard deviations and the like as I forgot nearly everything from university stalockquote widget
  7. NHL average goaltending gobbles up that rebound all day long.
  8. Maybe they should sit him again. 🙄
  9. There's one chairlift that has mostly black diamond terrain. While I think you'd be fine on the single blacks, you might want to sample the other greens and blues before attempting that lift. The other cool part of the resort is that it's a giant fiord down to the St Lawrence. From the top, you think you're skiing into the water. You drive in at the top and you don't even notice you're at a "mountain". If you want true beginner terrain (though I think you're more than fine), Mont Ste Anne has a better selection of long green runs. It's closer to Quebec city as well.
  10. If you're only going to do one, I suggest making the drive out to Le Massif. It's been a while since I've been there mind you, but I find it is similar to a western mountain in terms of snow and vertical.
  11. Snowbird is my favourite mountain I've ever been to, and I've boarded most of the main Utah and Colorado resorts. I'm a boarder, so I've yet to go to Alta. Not too many Canadians know of the SLC resorts, so most people are surprised when I say how good they are. If you ever go back, be sure to give Brighton and Solitude a try. Brighton is probably my number 2 hill anywhere. Its a little smaller, so it's good when your legs are shot, but the terrain is just so much fun. If it was as big as Snowbird, it would probably be my overall #1.
  12. When my wife and I were dating, I thought I could turn her into a skier. Unfortunately after an honest effort by her, she never took to the sport. The thrill of going fast never outdid the fear of getting hurt.
  13. For my kids, I usually buy used stuff, and when they outgrow it, I sell it for just slightly less than what I paid after they use it for 2 years. For boots, I get season rentals and the ski shop fits them to the used skis for free. If you can encourage any of your kids to snowboard, it takes the tuning factor out of the equation. Makes it really easy to get them set up.
  14. Where are you going in Quebec city? I've been to Mont Ste Anne and Le massif several times. Both are really good!
  15. Awesome!!!! What are your local hills?
  16. Sucks being a Sabres fan these days, but with all the snow, things are looking up for skiers and snowboarders. Anyone here like to hit the slopes? Sadly, I don't get out as much as I'd like to with two kids playing travel hockey. Last year I think I logged about 6 days total, including 3 days in Banff. This year, all I've got booked so far is Superbowl weekend at Bristol Mountain. Most years my friends and I go out west or at least to the Adirondacks or Quebec. Our favourite spot is the Salt Lake city area where we've got at least 5 or 6 times. It's tough to beat the 500 inches of snow per year and the quality of terrain there. A big trip likely won't be in the cards, but we'll see how much time and budget is left towards the end of hockey season. Hopefully I'll get in a bunch of Holiday Valley night skiing sessions. Cheers! Edit: feel free to post your favourite ski destinations and why you like them!
  17. The point I was trying to make was that it's not free to dig yourself out. It's a fact of life living in Western New york. If the disaster prone areas spent a similar amount of money paying for some sort of public infrastructure insurance, instead of relying on FEMA it would be more fair.
  18. One thing I'll say as an impartial observer Canadian that lives less about 45min away from Buffalo (who by the way hasnt seen a single flake). Maybe I don't have all the facts 100% correct, and maybe it's the 4 or 5 IPAs talking, but please try to catch my overall gist. It seems every year, you hear of all these natural disasters throughout the US, whether it's Hurricanes in the south, wildfires in California, tornados across the plains and Midwest... Etc... A lot of these places are much more affluent than the Western NY area, and at the same time pay a lot less tax. Then every five years or so, Buffalo gets absolutely POUNDED by a storm that would absolutely cripple any other part of the country. Yet time after time, Western NY'ers dig themselves out. No FEMA disaster money... No help from the rest of the country... They know where they live and spend the necessary tax money to take care of themselves. I think the areas that live in areas that are prone to other types of natural disasters should pay an additional tax or insurance to pay their own fair share of the FEMA money, that one day they'll be cashing in on. Places like WNY should be exempt, or pay a lot less, because they seem to do a good job of taking care of themselves. Just my thought. Best wishes to everyone going through it right now, though I'm sure as always, you'll come through just as you always do.
  19. Can somebody tell these a-wholes they've lost 7 in a row? They are a mere shadow of the hard skating team from October.
  20. Krebs, Mittelstadt, and Bjork all playing. Quinn sitting.
