In football (not including playoffs), you've got seventeen 60min games a year, most of which is clock ticking off between plays. How does anyone listen to soooooo much football chatter 24-7. Give me no more than 15-30min of Sal Cappacio a week. It's all I need to be caught up.

Sabres and it's not close.
-
Was his fitness not one of the knocks on him last year? Now you've got me 2nd guessing. In any case, a player of his ilk needs to play a more physical game with three potential top-6's in Savoie, Kulich, and Benson knocking on the door of being NHL ready.
-
If I'm running the show, Greenway is on a short leash. He needs to: 1. Show up to camp in shape 2. Play a lot more physical than last year. If he fails on either two of those, I'm pulling him in favour of someone younger and hungrier, any of whom has a much higher ceiling than him.

Terry Pegula named Sabres President; PSE separating Bills and Sabres
JoeSchmoe replied to Doohickie's topic in The Aud Club
So all those years he was a season ticket holder to the Sabres (by my quick Google search from 1980 to 1998), he was actually plotting to buy the Bills? That's a hell of a job in playing the long game. Well done Terry, Mr. President of the Buffalo Sabres! No one knows what's at play, but count me in as not being worried about the team. Terry Pegula named Sabres President; PSE separating Bills and Sabres
JoeSchmoe replied to Doohickie's topic in The Aud Club
I never thought too much about it, but my perception is the Sabres were his love that he bought to enjoy his hard-earned money as he mentioned back in the early days. He bought the Bills to save the team from being bought and moved by Jon Bon Jovi et al. From the getgo with the Bills it seemed more like a Kim thing, and if she's not in the position to be managing them, that would be the team Terry would be most likely to offload if either were on the chopping block. Plus, with a stadium deal in place the Bills' future in Buffalo seems more secure. -

See above... I see it differently. Given the choice, I think pegula would want to focus on his first love. -
No love for Bob Cole? He's my #2, far above any of the others mentioned. Especially in the playoffs... Him and his newfie accent. I think Emrick is just average... Keep him off. I kind of remember Gallivan and think he was pretty good. Don't remember Foster Hewitt, but I guess you got to put him on.

Sabres Trade Ilya Lyubushkin to Anaheim for a 2025 4th Round Pick
JoeSchmoe replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Like many here, I liked Boosh too. His Expected Goal stats don't look great, but he took the most % defensive zone starts on the team. I'm not sure if there's another stat that accounts for that, but eye test wise he's worth more to us that a 4th round pick 2 years from now. -
Really sucks. Some people cry when the good guy dies at the end of a movie. I don't watch a lot of movies, but Sabres Hockey has been my number 1 source of entertainment for a good part of my 48 years. Rick was my good guy. Knew it was coming eventually, but it sucks. RIP Rick

My buddy has been saying disclosure on aliens is imminent for so long now, and every single time it's a total nothing-burger. There's so many people that want to believe in aliens so bad (like my buddy) that they take any little tidbit of info and blow it up into something it's not. The worst is you consider the size of massive organizations such as NASA or the military. In those orgs, there's bound to be more than a few that REALLY want aliens to be real. Out of these tens of thousands of employees , all it takes is one so-called "expert" who thinks of themself as a whistleblower and then people like my buddy are addicted to UAP Twitter for another 6 months. It's all a bunch of BS.

Fake news

One thing I've noticed is that people these days that work in minimum wage type jobs all generally act like they could give two F's. It used to get me so upset! Maybe a month or two ago I had an epiphany. It dawned on me that in actuality... these minimum wage jobs buy less and less, but the business class just seem to get rich and richer. I'm originally from the Canadian side of the border in St Catharines (I've since moved slightly west). When I was a kid, we knew where the "rich" houses were in town. Those same "rich" houses are just considered above average now. The new rich have moved way upscale, yet the working poor cannot even afford rent anymore in the lower income parts of the city. So now when I'm in a grocery store line and the cashier is moving aggravatingly slow, I pause and try to remember that their wage likely doesn't even allow them to afford a rent payment. Yet the corporations and business class that are screwing them left right and center are sitting pretty from the comfort of their mansions, luxury cars, and 2nd homes... Many times backed by bailout money when times turn tough.

Best Vacation Destination a Tank of Gas or Less from Buffalo
JoeSchmoe replied to JoeSchmoe's topic in The Aud Club
Greetings from my best spot a tank of gas away from Buffalo. This is the Castle Rock summit near Blue Mountain Lake. We love the less populated areas of the Adirondacks like the Central/Southern area we're in right now. As someone from Ontario, I describe it as being like Muskoka was 50 years ago before the rich Toronto people took over... Except there's mountains. -
We just checked into a cabin in the Adirondacks for a week. For many years I've rented cottages here, camped in campgrounds and throughout the backcountry, stayed in hotels and ski lodges and never had less than a great time. All four seasons of the year (ok, maybe not spring mud and bug season) this is the best vacation destination within a tank of gas from Buffalo, and AINEC IMO. What do you guys have?

While not voting for my own song which is the far and away winner, two stand out as the 2nd best picks so far. Dookie's "Can't You Hear Me Knocking"... especially the opening riff would be awesome and just begs for some hockey stick goal celly guitar. Broken Ankles "Sabotage" says LETS ROCK! Blitzkrieg Bop and The King's are also acceptable choices, both with fun riffs. The rest of the choices... Including some songs I REALLY like (looking at you Spirit of Radio) can languish in goal song HELL!

It is a repeat topic, but gives me the chance to change my song.

These ELCs are seemingly boilerplate. I'm surprised the entire 1st round isn't signed within a couple days.

OT: Employment Interviews in the post covid 2020's
JoeSchmoe replied to Scottysabres's topic in The Aud Club
I'm a capitalist at heart, but I very much hate to see the increasing spread between the rich and poor. The example I like to quote is back in the day, there used to be a work boot plant in Port Colborne, just like there were similar manufacturing facilities in seemingly every town. Eventually it shut down as goods like work boots are now made pretty much exclusively overseas. Problem is, the price of work boots never, ever went down as a result of offshoring. The only thing that happened was shareholder profits went up. Definitely not how Henry Ford would have planned it. Anyhow, it'd be good if people spent their time boycotting companies with gross disparities between CEO and employee salaries rather than these left or right wing inspired efforts that seem to grab all the attention these days. Like Trump or hate him, I think his promise to try to bring manufacturing jobs back was the right call (however ingenious or disingenuous it may have been). -
OT: Employment Interviews in the post covid 2020's

Our gas line into our house was leaking. It was buried behind a wall and floor and there was no way to get at it. Gas company shut the gas off and we were desperate. I had worked out a plan to bypass the in wall/floor stuff and run a whole new supply in the house. First quote came back at $3000. This was $180/hr for the senior guy and $120/hr for a junior guy plus supplies. We almost paid it, but I called an acquaintance that did it for $800. Still, it took him 3hr and less than $100 in supplies. 99% of all college grads will not make the kind of money that the first contractor quoted me... Especially if you consider the lost income and high costs while going to school. 80-90% will not even make what my acquaintance charged me. -

As a Canadian, I can't understand why anyone in the US would go anywhere else other than a state school. The price discrepancy for a 4 year degree is massive, but the quality of education is similar. My friend went to Syracuse on a full sports scholarship. Her teammate who I got to know didn't get a scholarship and will be buried in student loans indefinitely. She could have went to UB for a fraction of the price and got the same degree. -
Sorry... I meant for pizza dough, not bread. That Fleischmann's yeast is my go to, but I've never been blown away by the results vs what I can buy at the store. I typically cook at a long preheated oven at 550F or a Kamado BBQ at 600-650. I've always used bread flour in the past... never 00 dough though, so that's my next move. I figure though that someone here has a recipe for really good Buffalo pizza dough. Any thoughts?

Or was it just they were cheap MF's? Mostly out of necessity, but cheap no less. Maybe after another year or two in this economy, my inflation grandparent diet I seem to be forced into eating will get me that beach body I haven't seen since my early 20s!

I think Aud was talking about Duncan Hines cake mixes. There's no preservatives in cake mix... I tend to agree with what he said. I also agree with what you said. I hate the taste of preservatives in baked goods. I think the real game changer between store and handmade would be if the handmade dough had some special yeasts. On that note, does anyone have any yeast tips for homemade dough. I've always thought my effort I put in to make home dough have been largely unrewarded for the same reason Aud suggests. If there was a secret ingredient, I'm thinking it'd have to be the yeast.

Not sure if I mentioned this before, but a bunch of my Canadian friends from further north planned a bachelor party for one of the gang at a Sabres / Leafs game. We hit Pearl St beforehand and ordered the usual pizza, wings, and beer. One of the friends liked the pizza so much he brought his girlfriend back the very next weekend from 5hr away. I want to say it was the stuffed banana pepper pizza. I had another friend from Toronto (who like many Torontonians leans towards the uppity side) claim that the Pearl Street Buffalo Finger pizza (or Buffalo wing... don't recall) was the best pizza he ever ate.
