  1. Yup, this. Unless it is someone I barely know (wife's / dates's friend etc), I can't get myself to complain about being surrounded by well-groomed people, looking to have fun, with an open bar.
  2. Agreed...but I don't see them selling many of them based solely on the design. Too close to the latest version. I was ready to pull trigger on a royal blue, and instead I'll just wait for whenever that comes around.
  3. Got tickets for Queens of the stone age coming up this thursday at Rapids Theatre. Amazing band, at a nearby club, first show of the tour before they had to Quebec and then Australia before headlining large shows in the states.
  4. I appreciate this information on the powerplay...First brake tap on Housley...Then I look at my alias and attempt to put this minor imperfection into perspective.
  5. Ditto. I am also biased against former players of his style as coaches (see also bougner). I want innovation from a coach and have reservations about a coach who made it based mostly on grit (I know, I know Rick had more than a few goals).
  6. My 5 year old understands offsides, icing etc. I literally have to beg him to go to the bathroom instead of watch the zamboni at intermission. I'm not saying he's special or not special compared to other kids, he just genuinely loves hockey. During the season, in the morning he jumps on the ipad as I make coffee, checks the scoreboard and watches the highlights not only of the sabres but most of the games. It is obviously also about the parents. It is amazing to have your kid with you when something special happens. I will never forget the look on my daughter's face when Jack scored that ridiculous goal against Columbus or my son after the OT breakaway goal against the Hurricanes. Finally, even if I was not a parent I would still love the afternoon games. Heck yes, I prefer a 1 - 3 PM start on a frigid saturday in February to driving down at night.
  7. Dude with family here including 5 year old son, 8 year old daughter who both regularly attend games. I do not think either kid enjoys those "family friendly" interactives on the Jumobtron. On the other hand, both kids enjoy the Let's Go Buffalo chants and Sabretooth hitting the drum. They want to be involved in the game, not have quizzes or house party music blasted in their ears. My son instinctively covers his ears after every whistle! More organ, more chants, more focus on the game which is why my son in particular asks for tickets. He, like me, loves the game and hates the noise around it.
  8. Bump...after all this initial excitement and still no denial from an inside source OR confirmation. I, Dr. Housley, am calling it without any fact facts or alternative facts. Royal blues are happening.
  9. After not hearing anything from sources inside 1 Seymour H Knox III Plaza, I am starting to get my hopes up. You would think some local reporter would text or call a contact who would intentionally leak that there will be no color changes by now. The longer this goes, the greater the hope. Finally, this would be a very strategic move. The fans have invested in an inferior product for 6 years and there is no Eichel coming in this year's draft. It has been more than 20 years since they took the royal blues from us and this simple gesture would put money in their pockets and provide a very straightforward marketing strategy. Looking at the pictures above, I am having a hard time finding a good argument to stay in the navy color scheme.
  10. Yup, that's sounds right. Music is also a time machine, so hearing whatever is from say your mid-teens to mid-twenties usually brings back fond memories. For me, nothing beats hearing something completely different for the first time. I also love the hunt for new music, so maybe I'm an outlier.
  11. Counterpoint, today's music is fantastic. There is more quantity and quality in every genre than ever before. We just need to dig for it. The music on the radio is pretty rough, I'll give you that!
  12. Love me some alt-country. See Neko Case, Ryan Adams, Wilco, Justin Townes Earle. So flipping good. Cannot listen to a minute of contemporary country.
  13. I also just googled Buffalo Sabres GM. The result brought me great joy. I hope it makes it until Friday for the fantastic thread. Finally, I vote for young dude from Toronto. His Ted Talk was fantastic, especially the part about recency bias.
  14. Yet somehow 37% more assists. Did those result from less or more work on his passing? Paul needs to supply more details to justify characterizing players as "arrogant" or acting "like he made it". This stuff can stick with a player a long time especially for a 20 year old kid. It is the reporter's job to tell us why he has this opinion. All we have heard is anecdotal evidence that he may or may not have missed extra sessions with ROR at some point during the season. Finally, it is not just this one instance with PH, the guy doesn't put the hours in to add substance to his opinions.
  15. This is not about fancy stats, but rather Hamilton not putting the time in to provide a fair comparison to support his position. My expectation is that an article from a professional will have more thought, effort, and expertise than your veteran posters on SS. "In his second season, Reinhart participated in very few of the extra workouts and his attitude changed too. He acted like he had made it and became pretty arrogant in his demeanor and in interviews." Does Paul even provide an example of his "arrogant demeanor"? We the audience have no clue what our reporter is referring to in regards to these interviews. The reporter is also assuming Sam is being arrogant rather than masking another emotion. Perhaps Sam is tired of answering the same question in his interviews? Or maybe he is frustrated with losing?
  16. From PH's recent column - "The lack of extra work showed as his goals went from 23 to 17. He did increase his assist total from 19 to 30, and overall had five extra points." So "lack of extra effort" apparently results in less goals and more assists per year. Paul if you're out there, this does not count as doing your homework or as you like to put it "extra effort". How does Sam compare to Draisaitl or other players his draft year? You may want to take a look at Flagg's analysis. Personally, I do not care if you criticize or praise my local team. Just give me some data to back up your opinion.
  17. All of this...Thank you Flagg. Hamilton seems to run with a narrative without much if any evidence to back it up. On the other hand, Coller, JW, even at times Schopp have data to back up their opinions that are likely the result of putting in work hours off air. I wonder how difficult it is for them to hold back when PH is talking on the show. I won't call PH lazy, because I do not know his daily routine. However, his opinions that he will pass off as knowledge/facts seem to be based on very brief observations.
  18. Congrats on the move TrueBlue. Staying within academia, my first manuscript as corresponding author just accepted for publication. Drinking the good stuff tonight.
  19. I cannot be the only one who turns the channel when an ex nhl gm who traded Chara is on camera. Sorry does this belong in complaint Thursday thread? My other question is who turns in for his opinion?
  20. I'm leaning towards giving up my seasons. I cannot rationalize putting down all that cash for this style of hockey. A coaching change would move me back towards renewal more than any reasonable player aquisition.
