  1. Only if he’s playing injured, like we saw at the end of last season.
  2. I was initially reading about the Amerks assistant coaches. But, as they say, the devil is in the details.
  3. I believe Tampa did this for years. I don’t think it hurt them.
  4. Sorry to break it to you guys. But it’s a done deal. Here the proof:
  5. Oloffson makes significantly less (4.75) than Gibson (6.4) and will also be a UFA after this coming season. One who owns Gibson also owns him for 4 years.
  6. True. It wouldn’t be complete without a picture of him posing behind a desk with a pen in his hands.
  7. I really don’t get this take. We didn’t have “one hell of a 1A goalie” last year and we were 1 win out of the playoffs. Are you saying we would’ve been better off with Joki (#4 TOI) or Clague (#5 TOI) than signing Clifton and Johnson? You’re essentially saying our D has considerably worsened from a time we had no one even remotely resembling a 1A goalie.
  8. I just don’t see how this would be at all possible. He is owed $6.4M for the next 4 years. Even if they retain 50%, it still doesn’t make sense. At this rate, it would’ve been smarter to sign Ullmark for a 6 year contract. As an aside, I find it ridiculous how players demand trades when they signed a guaranteed contract. Shouldn’t have signed for such long term then. I also don’t believe the agent here. That’s damage control…for himself. Best thing would be to terminate the contract, but the agent will do anything to prevent that.
  9. I don’t think they have to. It’s not optimal asset management, but teams have let FAs walk for nothing in return.
  10. The PLD trade was only done with the premise of a contract extension. There would’ve been no haul without that. So, it comes down to which teams have room (or it even makes sense) for a $8/9M extension for a goalie. There’s not many teams that fit that description. The Sabres don’t. There may be some garbage teams. More teams become open to a trade if you eliminate the costly extension, but that means getting significantly less in return for his rental. I don’t think they’re gonna get what they think they’re gonna get. Took the words out of my mouth.
  11. The Bryson addition by subtraction is huge. I’ll give a corollary argument. A not insignificant portion of last season was played with one of our top 4 injured and this coincided with a lot of lost games. These were the games Bryson was give top 4 minutes. Getting Clifton (and even Johnson) allow for this to never happen again. The result will be akin to getting a top 4 injury last year, but not having any drop off in play. That 8 game losing streak in November may never have happened. Last season the Sabres were 8-15-3 without Samuelsson.
  12. Well, considering Hanifan hasn’t been traded, it can equally be said the ask is unreasonable.
  13. Wait, Levi’s going back to college? OMG!
  14. This is what I’m saying. Don’t give the Jets much, but more importantly, don’t give Helle a contract either. Use him to ease Levi in for a year. Then bid him farewell for his tutelage.
  15. I thought of that, but at some point, it has to be tough pill to swallow for a player to be told that they can’t play until May, if at all. I guess they can have multiple players taking turns on the couch.
  16. And the hole is being dug deeper.
  17. Toronto is now $5M over the cap. Wonder how they’ll get out of this.
  18. Seriously, this guy doesn’t come across as a guy who has nearly double the amount of hits as the next Sabres defenseman. I like it.
  19. I’d be perfectly fine with sending the Jets some peanuts for Helle. I don’t need him to sign an extension. He just needs to win games (ie get us the playoffs) and guide Levi. Levi can take over once he leaves.
  20. If we are lucky he’ll get claimed.
  21. I believe it was already figured out there’s a simple solution to this; Bryson goes to Rochester
  22. For all of the reasons you mentioned, this is why he wouldn’t demand an $8M/year contract. But he was an integral part of our team late last year and would sign him for $5-6M/year. Who knows, next year may be the year he decides to pull it all together.
  23. We’re paying a bad team tax during FA, but we are keeping our own at significant discounts. I think the bad team tax will end after this coming season.
