No. I don't believe there is any to miss. We like think our shiny new toy is better than Edmonton's but it isn't, its simply different. McDavid's ability to find another gear and maintain speed laterally and in traffic is unique. Jack's gift is in his head and chest.

I want a team that scores or at least threatens to score. Gritty grinding is ok on the bottom 2 lines but I want to see the promise of offensive firepower. That will be fun to watch.

Better late than never, Thorny. I think many have latched on to the Toews idea. If Chicago had to choose between Kane and Toews it is not even a discussion. Toews wins. But the Avs chose to move ROR. So it begs the question, is he really similar or just an above average Player who has maxed to his ceiling? The intangibles Toews has are what makes him special. He is respected by players much his senior. He has great offensive skill but will do whatever the team needs including putting that on the back burner if necessary. I can't get over the idea that the Avs let him go despite the raves from the members of this board. But as the last line of the post said time to move on and cheer for the laundry and ROR will be wearing it.

Well said. I would add Tampa, Florida, the Isles, Preds and Sens as teams whose futures are looking bright. My expectations are tempered by the fact that we will be a young team at crucial positions. I am willing to accept the inevitable growing pains. But I am also looking forward to entertaining hockey and the promise of the young talent meeting or exceeding expectations.

NYR were looking to make a cup run and traded at the deadline on a gamble. To a large extent that backfired. St Louis has too much invested in one area of the team hindering its ability to remediate deficiencies elsewhere. These should affect the value of each asset. I do not think NYR get nearly the equivalent return in the offseason but rather roster flexibility and a fair return. Shattenkirk isn't a must move so I agree he costs more, but I think you are not taking into account why they want to move these guys into the cost equation.
