How is that not a penalty shot??

His defensive game has been much better the past few weeks. Much like the team overall has been honestly. Been a while since they allowed more than 3 goals and that was only last game when they were up 5-0. That play against Marchand against the boards in the Sabres end where he basically erased him into the boards and got the puck away from him was a great defensive play.

They've had two gross power plays. The other came inside the first minute of the first period on a too many men on the ice call against the Bruins

Mostly because the Sabres don't have a big lead where they will "Defend the Alamo" and basically dump the puck out over and over while the other team comes at them time and time again all period long.

20 minutes. Let's bring it home boys!

Can we just start declining penalties?

Not a bad period overall. They gave up some chances but Boston is too good to think you are going to shut them down completely. Thought they did a fairly good job in the Bruins zone and neutral zone of really pestering the Bruins and not letting them get easy chances to break out.

Is there a team in the league that has more "almost clears" than the Sabres do? It's like they are right there to clear the puck within 2 or 3 feet of the blueline and almost inexplicably don't clear it many times.

Have to say that I have been really impressed at how UPL has turned his game up the last 3 or 4 games...he was God Awful for the first several games, taking bad angles and letting in soft goals but it seems he has really worked hard on that and has been much better lately

I've said it before...Marchand is probably the one person in this world that if I saw him walking down the street I would just walk up to him, not say a word and just punch him in the face, consequences be damned.

Tage making people look silly in close again...it's unreal how good he is at using his long reach in close to deke people down to the ground and then go around them to get a near empty net

Really it seems to be only "can Mule stay healthy". Doesn't seem to matter who else is out, if he plays they usually win 75% of the time.

It appears he will be based on the 7 year contract extension he signed...for less than Risto gets on a per year basis...think about that one for a minute.

Hmm...I am not sure that is correct...I believe I posted something earlier in the year where it was higher.

He plays very solidly defensively and covers up for mistakes by his defense partners and allows them to get more involved in the offense without having to worry about their defensive responsibilities not being taken care of if they do.

Pretty astounding. Sabres are 14-4-2 in games he has played, earning 30 of a possible 40 points(0.750 point percentage). For those who say the Sabres can't make up the points to get in the playoffs, it appears as long as Samuelsson stays healthy, not only can they, it's probably likely they do. He is also second on the team in +/- with a +15. Dahlin is first at +17. Guess KA knew what he was doing when he signed him to a VERY team friendly long term contract before the season...much like he did with Thompson.

They have between 2-4 games in hand now on those teams due to an unscheduled break. They will likely make up ground with those.

He was a beast in the defensive zone and on the backcheck too...made several nice pass breakups there
