As much as I hate their 3rd period "Remember The Alamo" defense, I have to admit it's ultimately effective as I don't believe they have lost with it when they have had a 2+ goal lead... Just think it's unnecessary to let the other team back in it.

And that should do it! Girgensons with another hustle play to get the empty netter...Okposo with the hatty!

This team is not good enough defensively to try and play prevent defense.

Could have easily made the excuse of a team that was rusty or hadn't practiced in a while if they looked bad. It is what it is, Sabres are hammering them.

Krebs with Okposo and Girgensons has been a revelation...

This may be the Sabres best game of the season...they are giving Detroit almost nothing in the defensive zone and coming back with 5 guys backchecking hard. Other than a couple odd man breaks, the Sabres have been extremely solid in the D zone and all over Detroit offensively. It's like a shooting gallery in the Detroit zone for the Sabres

They have looked pretty freaking good so far.

Well...not necessarily going to happen. There wasn't widespread flooding in Snowvember II a few weeks ago when all that snow melted relatively quickly in a week or so. Will depend on if there is ice blocking the waterways now.

Agreed, they had plenty of time for advance notice on this that it was going to be a very rare type of event that happened here. But of course you have the people in the area(who almost always live up in Lewiston, NF or Youngstown that get no snow or very little) who claim it was a massive overreaction to shut down the area.

They should have harsher penalties and fines for people who do this sort of thing during declared emergencies. Just complete scumbags.

Those who forced employees to come in that ended up dead due to being stuck should be criminally prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Pure scum

The best way they can...they have relatively enclosed places where they take multiple measurements in different spots and then likely average them out.

Also unreal we get this 5 weeks after Snowvember II gave us 7 feet of snow in places as well. Hamburg has over 140" right now...maybe even 150" on the year so far.

People being out in this and wanting to go "sightseeing" as usual cause the biggest headaches. Why people can't just sit their @sses at home for 48 hours I'll never understand.

Because the thruway being open would necessitate those exits being opened in places where the surrounding area still is like a warzone. Southtowns just got blasted with 3-4 feet of lake effect yesterday so now that area needs to be plowed out as well... It makes no sense to allow people to travel into and thru areas where travel bans are still in effect. That's what you are missing. 😃

But in all fairness it was far better than in 77 when there was literally almost no lead time from the time forecasters warned people and the storm hitting and absolutely ZERO in the way of emergency preparedness back then...that didn't even exist. In large part this area's future responses were learned from all of the failures then.

Buffalo has done it!! This needs its own thread as it's a monumental achievement as records go back to 1878 here. With the 6.2" recorded today at the airport thru 10am, Buffalo has set the all-time record for most snowfall in a season thru December with 98.9", breaking the 95.9" previous record set in 2000. Current storm total is 49.7" officially. Almost a foregone conclusion this will be the first time ever Buffalo records 100+" of snow by the end of December(a given based on the previous record being 95.9"). Still lightly snowing and expecting 3-5" more tonight and 1-3" tomorrow. It's been a hell of a winter already...now Buffalo sets it's eyes on becoming the first city with 100K+ population to ever get 200" in a season in the US. Buffalo also hols that record of 199.2" in the infamous 1976-77 season(blizzard of 77). As a sidenote, 2000 saw the 2nd highest seasonal snowfall ever of 158.7".

Wegmans and Tops are both closed Monday per the late night news. Yeah this was the craziest storm I've ever been through. The Buffalo Airport reported 50 consecutive reports of blizzard conditions, or over 34 hours straight...this is by FAR the longest ever in recorded history. 2nd place isn't even close. The combined duration and severity of the winds, heavy lake snows and whiteout conditions make this an all-timer. And Lockport "only" got 2 feet
