  1. No, not polite fans - but don't be flipping off our stars and telling em to 'eff off either. Bit of difference there. LOL
  2. Liking Elie - he doesn't take any crap from the Rangers!!
  3. Some Rangers' fan giving Risto the finger behind the glass - that guy's behind would be in a sling in a lot of other cities. Ever polite and genteel Buffalo. LOL
  4. Yeah, but Detroit is just as close to Canada as Buffalo, and they only played the National Anthem at the Joe, and now also at Little Caesar's Arena (which is a awesome facility, BTW) And BTW - I think its fine that both anthems are played in Buffalo - I thought it odd the first Red Wing game I attended and no Canadian Anthem!
  5. The question now - WILL they score a goal this season?
  6. Looked to me like Boston was slowing down a lot in the 3rd - and it wasn't just 'prevent' either. Tired might not be the right word.... not as fresh as the Sabres? It WAS a punishing loss on the road, followed up by a back to back road game in Buffalo. The Sabres should have been fresher - 1st game, home game, etc. Pick any words you want - the Sabres absolutely sucked. Fans were absolutely justified in booing!
  7. It is. My DirecTV auto records the Sabres, and last night it picked the Boston broadcast instead of the Sabres'. I usually start watching 30, 40 minutes in so I can fast forward thru commercials. I thought about changing the channel to the Sabres' cast.... but thought it would be interesting to hear that perspective. The Boston announcers stated, at some point in the 3rd period, after we'd seen 45, 50 minutes of poor play by the Sabres, that the Sabres bear watching as they are set up, with the new players, to be an excellent team within 2 to 3 seasons.... and one of the announcers stated once they hit that point, they will be a solid contender for at least 5 or 6 seasons. So there is that. I don't see it... but it's heartening that others do.
  8. Well, they looked last night as if they desperately needed that practice time. So there is that.
  9. This was just a dreadful exhibition. This team looked like it picked up where it left off in April - as a worst in the league team. Other than Dahlin looking good at times, there weren't any rays of sunshine here. Poor coordination, turn overs, crappy passing, guys that can't put a puck in the net to save their life.... substandard play across the board. Housley's surprise move of pulling the goalie with 5 minutes left ended up looking absolutely pathetic. Unable to score a goal with a man advantage in 5 full minutes..... and a 2 man advantage for 40 seconds of that time. Against a tired team playing on the road who'd played a tough game the night before! Worse, Boston managed an empty netter during the 2 man advantage. Honestly, if Buffalo had the man advantage for 10 minutes straight, it looks like they still couldn't score a goal.
  10.    Please don't go anywhere - this is yet another hilarious topic.
  11. He probably has wells named for all the huge contracts Pegula is paying or has paid for sitting on the sidelines, and which those wells finance.... Leino #2 Ryan # 7 Murray #3 And so on.....
  12. Excellent move. O'Reilly symbolized the losing culture that had firmly established itself in the team's locker room. Like a cancer, it had to be cut out, irregardless of expense or cost. He could have been a leader, but never truly was; he spent time crying in his beer rather than making himself, and the team, better. I won't miss him.
  13. He's only 5' 8" - but he's still 3" taller than the smurf-like Gerbe. Sheary is almost a giant in comparison to Gerbe. LOL
  14. That's depressing... we still have TWO full years left on Bogosian's toxic contract. We've already paid SO much, for so little in return, it's mind boggling. I don't see how we can get rid of him - what team would want him, given his track record? Hopefully Dahlin is all that, and we fans can blissfully forget that we're still paying Bogosian to contribute nothing.
  15. Just the time of year. Board activity declines quite a bit between seasons. Myself, I am more focused on Yankees and MLB this time of year. Never quite sure how to vote on these polls - whether to vote on what will likely happen given the Sabres' management, or what we'd like to see happen. I went with option 1, 'likely'. Pominville back for final year, 2-3 bridge deal for Reinhardt, and Falk AHL'ing it unless called up. Appears those are the popular choices.
  16. LMAO - he builds a lawn for, what, 1000 ft on a lakefront, substantially altering the environment - and then whines about geese. That has NOTHING to do with property taxes or the town of South Bristol. IF I buy a house in the woods in South Bristol, and I have problems with nuisance squirrels getting in the attic, should I qualify for lower taxes????? Ridiculous!! Waterfowl control is thru the State and the DEC. The town doesn't have a damn thing to do with it. Go to the state, idiot - not the town! If I were on that town board, I'd tell him to go pound salt, and stick his money clip where the sun doesn't shine. South Bristol 30, 40 years ago, used to be a nice, laid back farming/rural town before all the upscale Richie Rich's and Scrooge McDuck's invaded.
  17. I said, regarding Gorges, Moulson, and Bogosian late last spring, that if those guys were in the roster in October 2017, the team was NOT serious about winning. They were - and the Sabres weren't - serious about winning that is - it was officially a 'write off season'; that seemed to be the attitude from the highest levels of Sabres management all the way down to the locker rooms! Meanwhile, Vegas in the Stanley Cup finals. Some teams DON'T feel years and seasons can be wasted, unlike the Sabres. I'll say the exact same thing about Lehner - if he's wearing a Sabres uniform in October, consider it another write off year.
  18. OMG - it is brutal when you put it this way. Vegas knows how to spend effectively. I think Vegas is paying McNabb $2.5 million this season - vs $3.9 million we paid to Josh Friggin' Gorges and $5.1 million to Bogosian; between the two players and 9 million dollars in salary they posted a grand total of 3 points, and a Leino-esque zero goals for the entire season. OTOH McNabb already has 2 goals and 5 points in the post-season alone! Why? Because Buffalo!
  19. Amazing what Vegas accomplished in less than a year - even if they lose in the Cup finals. Astonishing that the Sabres have been able to sell Regier's idea of 'suffering' as 'necessary' to much of their fanbase-- and that's continued 7 1/2 years into the Pegula Era. Vegas' success, I think, will make it much harder for fans to accept anything less than a playoff berth at a minimum in spring 2019. A Bylsma-eque 81 pt 2018-19 season, and a "Hoorah - look how we improved!" from the Front Office ain't gonna cut it with Sabres fans in April 2019. Wild Card berth should be barebones minimum expectation!
  20. Alright- a communications major - applying to waitress at a restaurant - and Pegula, just sitting there having lunch, hires her with zero experience into the Natural Gas /Fracking industry..... because he thinks she's the best person for the job, whatever that might be or mean. Then just by coincidence they hit it off and become man and wife less than 2 years later. Communications major - I'm not sure that Pegula was doing a lot of media interviews or press releases at that time. Tell you what - go to a similar industry or business for which YOU have zero demonstrable qualifications, experience, training, education, or standing in, put in an application, and tell me how it goes. LOL In almost every business, the vast majority of such apps would end up in the old circular file. BTW, they were married in 1993, so the personal relationship must have begun about when the professional one did. That's just a logical inference - I'd gather he was clearly attracted to her on a personal level in the restaurant in Olean. I think to assume otherwise would be somewhat naive. And so he hires this lady he's attracted to- given the under 2 years from meeting to marriage, their relationship started pretty early, if not before her employ- probably IN that restaurant. Do you honestly think that her 1st annual evaluation as an employee would be as stringent as for Joe Smith working for Pegula? Perhaps it would - I highly doubt it though. We can agree on the last point - I think she HAS to be better than Brandon - an individual who many fans including myself have disliked for years, just based on his negative influence on the on-field product, and his oily public statements. I wasn't even privy to the back story about him, as you are, or I would have outright despised him. Like you, I have concerns. Other than her last name, and she's the boss' wife, is she the best qualified person for the job? Possibly. Or is Roy Rolston a good analogy - as you may recall Roy was the best candidate for HC of the Sabres - in Darcy's office at that time.
  21. That's great that management by family name and death worked out for the Reds, Wings, and Rams. I'm not terribly up on the history of the Rams, but both The Wings and the Reds already had championship lineage, and were established as quality successful franchises, with a winning 'culture' in place when Schott and Norris took over. In general, I think practical experience, education, training, and gravitas are preferable for high level management or executive posts vs grabbing a random person or family member from the street and hoping for the best. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned?
  22. So I guess no Russ Brandon bobble-head day this upcoming season at KeyBank Center? For myself the concerns about Kim Pegula taking over all these posts has nothing to do with gender, and everything to do with experience and training (or lack of) If she had an MBA from a heavy hitting Ivy League school, marketing or advertising degree or similar credentials, or relevant experience, that would be great. But she doesn't seem to have any special acumen or skills for the job, other than her last name. From her Wikipedia page - her experience is shown as high school cheerleader and bassoonist. It's not clear what her major at Houghton was, or even if she completed school before leaving to work for Pegula (at that juncture she was a waitress). And of course, her employment with Pegula had more to do with romantic leanings than qualifications - does anyone think her work performance for Pegula was evaluated as impartially , stringently, or as analytically as a regular Pegula employees' would be? It's great Brandon's gone - and she probably won't be counseling hires like Rex Ryan in order to fill seats the next season vs any real long term benefit to the team(s). So we'll see.
  23. THANK GOODNESS!!!!!!!
