  1. It's a good thing that Rasmus Dahlin's English is already better than Berglund's! We don't need Berglund to be the official English <--> Swedish translator. That much we know about him.
  2. The prospect challenge tourney starts on the weekend before that: 7th through 10th.
  3. I was partial to these uniforms. The scout looks like someone in a burka; that would be more a propos these days.
  4. I know. I didn't watch every game. So, that is why I missed his goals. The games are on YouTube if someone wants to go back and do another review. I guess that I can say that my viewership was lackadaisical as well. ?
  5. This year, several Sabres, past and present, played in DaBeautyLeague, a Summer 4 on 4 hockey league. The league's season is now over. Here are some point totals for our guys and my personal reviews. The league didn't post +/-, so I only have point totals. Mind you that in a 4 on 4 Summer league, point totals are going to be highly inflated. [I am NOT a scout...just some of my observations.] B. Boeser 9gp 16g 18a 34pts For comparison the leading scorer was Brock Boeser; he was phenomenal day in day out. He's an example for why I wanted Jim Benning as our GM. Z. Bogosian 5gp 4g 9a 12pts. Zach played OK. He showed some offensive flair with a nice shot on display for his goals. Unfortunately, his defense wasn't stellar. He made a completely bone-headed play in the semi-finals that helped cost his team the game. [He pinned a guy along the boards and then just stayed there while the play ended up coming back to the front of the net.] Hudson Fasching 9gp 5g 6a 11pts. I didn't see him score any goals personally. From what I saw he was the Rochester Fasching, i.e. has tools but cannot score. Casey Nelson 9gp 2g 7a 9pts. Casey was solid albeit unspectacular. C.J. Smith 6gp 2g 5a 7pts C.J. was solid albeit unspectacular. Casey Mittelstadt 4gp 1g 3a 4pts On his one goal, it was the Casey that makes us drool. The rest of the time, his play seemed a bit uninspired. And then he dropped out of the league after just 4 games. He wasn't injured because he played with Eichel in a Buffalo beer league afterwards. I know that it's just a Summer league. And as the games went on and grew in importance, intensity improved somewhat. I guess that we'll have to wait for the prospect tournament and training camp to see how Casey fits in. Sam Reinhart 1gp 1g 1a 2pts. With his team down, Sam pushed hard to score the tying goal. Yay. But then he made a blind pass to the opponet's crease which ended up at the blue line and was taken in for a break-away for the game winning goal. Ouch. The play-by-play guys were also playing things a bit loose. So, I'm sure that I missed some play by our guys as I didn't have everyone's numbers memorized and the camera work was not top shelf. But there you have it, some feedback on the DaBeautyLeague for 2018.
  6. Ted Darling still had some of that old fashioned accent going on. I like watching old movies and news and such just for that reason. Not so much a fan of the "trans-atlantic" accent in its pure form though.
  7. 1) What is your favorite Bond movie? For Your Eyes Only (Living Daylights was good too). 2) What is the best Bond movie? For Your Eyes Only 3) Who is/was the best James Bond? Timothy Dalton 4) Who is/was the best villan? Eliot Carver and/or Franz Sanchez [Most Realistic: We have real life drug lords and abusive media moguls.] 5) Who is the hottest co-star? Carole Bouquet or Maryam d'Abo [NOT Tonya Harding. :-)] 6) What was the best stunt in a Bond film? No opinion, but NONE OF THE SKI CHASES, ugh! 7) What is the best gadget in a Bond film? No Opinion at this time
  8. Alexeyev, no love for the Russian d-man?
  9. Nathan Paetsch wasn't playing much (but he was injured some of the time too). That's a great reason that the Amerks just resigned him to add to our umpteen other left shooting d-men. LHD: Scandella, McCabe, Guhle, Pilut, Dahlin?, Boleeuh, Hickey?, Antipin?, [Atwal], [McWilliam], [Paetsch], Stephens, & Martin. And 9? RHD: Ristolainen, Bogosian, Dahlin?,Nelson, Antipin?, Fedun, Tennyson, Borgen, [Redmond]. Are they going to resign Stuart Percy too? He was a regular who played last year. [forgot Nelson.]
  10. Please, no more Russians, especially not at goalie! :-) Ufa (Russian: Уфа́...) is the capital city of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia, and the industrial, economic, scientific and cultural center of the republic. As of the 2010 Census, its population was 1,062,319,[9] making it the eleventh most populous city in Russia. But seriously, why doesn't JBot just say to Toronto, "Trade me Garrett Sparks for a 7th, or I'll just make a waiver claim in the Fall since we're 31st."? Whoohoo! 31st has its advantages you know.
  11. I thought that too. Kris Baker says that he has played both left and right sides. I'm not sure if he has a preference, but Phil Housley and JBot might have a preference for the kid. Maybe we'll have an idea how they plan on using him by rookie camp.
  12. It seems ironic that some who defend Kane might be condemning Hull. And in my own case, someone who wanted Kane off the team, is trying to defend Hull. [Difference is that Kane was arrested, there was video evidence, and more than one woman was involved as I recall. Them's not rumors. And *we* in the stands saw little evidence of a change, though one was reported....Really, it's the Pegula's decision on that one. They moved fast on Brandon and wanted to move on from Kane. I'll have to trust their insight for now.]
  13. John 8:1-11. That's my point about the Amish, etc. Ya know, a metaphor for abstract concepts about right/wrong, community, etc. I don't know Bobby Hull. Even though I don't agree with eugenics (for religious, scientific, and practical reasons), *I* cannot condemn Bobby Hull. In contrast to Hitler, I think that Hull could be redeemable (assuming that the negative reports are true). And maybe he is already redeemed, but that's not sensational enough to publish. Ya know, if it bleeds, it leads.... Just sayin'.
  14. OK. Bigger Quotation Sounds Repugnant.
  15. In Amish like communities, someone is shunned until he repents. The community elders have a PROCESS of reviewing and voting upon the shunning. There is a also a process for re-admittance. This article leaves no room for repentance. The Amish also don't go around publicizing and sensationalizing peoples' failures. The Hitler thing sounds like the type of thing a rambling drunk might say. Let's see if a sober dude can get away with some level-headedness. Obviously Hitler was an evil man who had the charisma to lead others into evil. But the rebuilding of Germany was undeniably remarkable, for at least a season. That seems to be what rational people can agree upon. Also, historians are recognizing today that Hitler had little choice but to invade Russia as the Russians were lining up a MASSIVE army on the border...Why doesn't Stalin get more/as much hate as Hitler? Stalin killed MANY more millions of people, his own citizens even! Hilter killed Jews. Stalin killed Jews, Christians, and basically anyone who held steadfast to his religion. I would venture to say that the group think, PC, culture of today is almost as bad as the Communists. Antifa fights fascism with fascism. Where are the objective observers? I guess that it's just too much of an ego stroke to condemn another soul.
  16. Ummm, that's Czechia now, for some inexplicable reason. The media seemed to call him Doo-Duh-Check. But I meet a slovak who knew him. His name was Doo-Dah'-Check, emphasis on second syllable. [disclosure: I am not a Slovak.] And New Caledonia, Nouvelle-Calédonie, is European too. As are St. Pierre & Miquelon, French Guiana, & Réunion among others. Oh. Forget not French Polynesia!!! Ooh La La! And the Penguins have a bunch of French players from Terre Adélie.
  17. If Scotty started tearing down the team when he arrived, and the next playoff series win was over 10 years later, well, hey now, when can we expect our next series win? 2023? (based on Pominville trade beginning the tank). Please let it not be so long away.
  18. The year was 1983 as I recall. Sauve had 3 shutouts as I recall. Then came Boston and Brad Park as I recall.
  19. Q3. Was Alan Haworth francophone? He was born in Drummondville. He played in the QMJHL. He played for the Nordiques. When he moved to Switzerland, he played for Bern which was on the Francophone/germanophone border.
  20. Richard Martin Gilbert Perreault René Robert Benoit Hogue Pierre Turgeon Jason Pominville Gilles Hamel Daniel Brière Donald Audette Yvon Lambert Joey Juneau Réal Cloutier André Savard J.P. Dumont Jocelyn Guevremont Philippe Boucher Larry Carrière ? Marc-André Gragnani Marin Biron Robert Sauvé Jocelyn Thibeault Honorable Mention: Alan Haworth©, Jean-Guy Talbot(D), Pat Lalime(G), any others who I missed. Q1. Where are the French defencemen? [Maybe I just don't know enough of their history to find any?] Q2. Why were Yvon Lambert and Real Cloutier buried/destroyed by Bowman? -My apologies if this has been done before.
  21. And Evander Kane scored nada in the last Sharks playoff game of 2018. And there goes one chance at a guaranteed #1 pick from SJ. But he played well for them. They have some aging players (see Thorton, Joe), etc. So, here's to hoping that he resigns with SJ.
  22. Too many dangling Dahlin threads, pun intended.
