  1. Where am I yelling? I haven't put anything in bold or all caps save to highlight some key differences, as I recall. I'm sorry if it seems like I'm yelling. I'm not. This is calm discourse. As for the "other" gospels, the early church fathers wrote extensively about heresies and the need to hold fast to the truth as given in the 4 gospels. One of our oldest extant texts is a copy of the Diatessaron which was a later attempt to "harmonize" the 4 gospels into 1 single text; it was almost universally condemned as a distortion. Irenaeus was a church father who flourished circa 170AD; he wrote extensively against the gnostics. Irenaeus was a disciple of the martyr Polycarp who was a disciple of John. Two degrees of separation from a disciple; three from Jesus himself. The point is that the early church strove to keep their sources pure. Talking about keeping sources pure, we have the Dead Sea scrolls which date as early as 300 BC(!). Aside from some textual differences, they are in the main congruent with our existing Old Testament texts. The scribes was exceedingly exacting in trying to keep their copies pure. The early Christians had a similar mindset, except that they tended to prefer the LXX over the Hebrew texts in several places. The "Majority Text" Greek manuscripts are very numerous and are in accord with one another. The Dead Sea scrolls should be the only proof needed against Islam as Islam says that Jews and Christians corrupted the Bible. But some our texts pre-date Islam by up to 900 years. What's more believable: Jews and Christians conspired to alter texts for thousands of years, or Mohammad living in backwater, desert Arabia got jumbled source material from mainstream and heretical sources? (There are stories in the Quran which parallel heretical Christian texts; and the Christian texts, of course, pre-date the Quranic texts). Remember, Islamic tradition states that Mohammed couldn't even read nor write. So, yes, it is a falsehood that Christians doctored their religion and changed their belief system. As the myth goes, after Emperor Constantine converted, he called the Council of Nicea to get the scribes to fundamentally change the religion. It's a silly idea. The proponents of this theory never give us proof of what they think the religio nhad been - where Christians were hunted down, willingly martyred, and persecuted for hundreds of years. The gnostics thought that salvation came from knowing a secret code; surely you're not going to willing go to death if you haven't received the secret yet. The corruption theory is fake news.
  2. PTL. It exactly because of their beliefs that people have killed millions. Senseless killing is even more sinister. The Quran says to make war against unbelievers. The Bible says to love your neighbor. Have people done evil in the name of Christianity? Of course. But it's an aberration of the true intent.
  3. Fine. We'll let NS speak for himself. He did say, as Muslims say, that the Bible has been purposely altered to fundamentally change the religion. I'm getting tired of this thread. As a Christian, I realize that I'm in the minority, and I expect to be viewed in a negative light. I believe that Jesus was the nicest man who ever lived; and they killed him. When you try to speak truth, people will get offended. I'm not here to argue. I come here for some hockey insight. I realize that I'm not Mr. Popular here anyhow. I've made my key points. I'll try to move along.
  4. I'm not here to try to coerce you into another belief. God gave us freewill. I'm glad that you have peace.
  5. At first blush the comparison might seem harsh, but only to those who are ignorant of History. Hitler killed millions. Muslims have killed millions of Jews and Christians. I quote the Quran: And when the forbidden months have passed, kill the idolaters wherever you find them and take them prisoners, and beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they repent and observe Prayer and pay the Zakat, then leave their way free. Surely, Allah is Most Forgiving, Merciful.
  6. I'm here today to tell you that there is more to be found. Please don't give up. I was lost for years too. I pray that the Holy Spirit would touch you and help guide you to where you will find peace.
  7. It's not I who on the Eve of Easter decided to post that Christianity was a complete hoax, using Muslim inspired Fake News. It's rather disingenuous for a Muslim to wish Christians a Blessed Easter because you believe the the whole passion narrative was essentially a hoax. Muslims try to use language to ingratiate themselves to those who are ignorant of the key differences. As a Christian, I would never wish someone a happy Ramadan. It's not out of mean spiritedness. It's out of INTEGRITY. For those who do not know, Muslims believe that Christ's death on the cross was a hoax. Here's the Quran: That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah";- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:- Nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise;- — Qur'an, surah 4 (An-Nisa) ayat 157–158[ OK. Find it. Show me where the text was fundamentally changed in character (outside of the Gnostic Heretics).
  8. There are several subtle distinctions here. One: the Bible has 4 separate eye-witness accounts composed after Jesus death (but likely containing material from journals and memories: to wit the original "Q" - Quelle). Two: Christianity was considered as a heretical Jewish sect that suffered early persecution from Jews and Romans; Christianity was essentially forced to go underground. Ex. Emperor Nero was killing Christians in 64 AD. Three: Christianity started 600 years earlier so early texts are less likely to have survived, and yet our earliest NT pages are from 150AD. Fourth: there are secular references to the events, such as Pontius Pilate as being in Roman and secular historical records. In complete contrast, Islam spread by conquest over the entire Middle East and North Africa shortly afterwards. The Muslims were in control. And yet there were no Muslim nor secular references to Mohammed by name for decades. Even the Dome of the Rock, built in 690AD doesn't mention Mohammed by name, only as The Prophet. As for the Quran: it was assembled after Mohammed died and many of his close followers were being killed off in battle. I quote Wikipedia: -- Under Caliph Uthman, a committee of five copied the scraps into a single volume, "monitoring the text as they went", resolving disagreements about verses, tracking down a lost verse.[14] This muṣḥaf -- that became known as the "Uthmanic codex" -- was finished around 650 CE,[15][16] whereupon Uthman issued an order for all other existing personal and individual copies and dialects of the Quran (known as Ahruf) to be burnt. -- What this text doesn't mention is that there were more submissions refused for entry than were accepted. Notice as well that they BURNT all disagreeing texts. It's as if Hitler conquered Europe in 1940. But no one knew his name until 1960; he was only known The Fuhrer to the whole world. And Mein Kampft was only put together from memories of his some followers decades after his death.
  9. I didn't say it. Jesus said it: "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:" Many times people read something with closed mind. Pop culture has a view of Christianity which is mostly false. Even the Catholic church has many things wrong. You have to be open to truly seeking out the Truth regardless the consequences. The Bible records a conversation where a rich man asked Jesus what it would take for him to get into heaven. Jesus told the man to sell everything and become his disciple. The rich man couldn't bring himself to do that.
  10. That's what people get wrong ALL THE TIME. Faith isn't blind. That's why Jesus came in the flesh for all to see Him, his teachings, and his miracles. For Christians, 1st it was the empty tomb. 2nd it was seeing Jesus resurrected, 3rd it was seeing the miracles that the disciples worked in Jesus name. True born-again Christians have the Holy Spirit (i.e. God!) dwelling IN them ! That's experience, having God live right inside of you! So, yeah, the first step might be a leap of faith, but God reveals truth to his children (IFF you seek it until you find it!!)
  11. On the Eve of Easter, I couldn't let this stand uncorrected: That's a tired old, long disproven trope. Most scholars, even sceptics, believe that Gospels depict true events and were written in the decades that followed Jesus' crucifixion. So, Matthew, Mark, Luke, & John would all disagree. No one can read the New Testament and be in doubt that Jesus claimed that he was divine. Indeed: That's the WHOLE story, how the Jewish authorities were outraged by Jesus' teachings and claims of divine provenance: that's why they killed him! John 10:30 "I and the Father are one." I quote: -- Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple. Jesus uses the title “I AM,” the name God uses for Himself when answering Moses in Exodus 3:14. The reaction of the Pharisees confirms this is precisely what Jesus was claiming because they tried to stone Him for blasphemy. -- Jesus makes it entirely clear to those who are tuned in. Furthermore, the Old Testament TaNaK also prophesied Jesus. The Jews at the time just misunderstood the prophecies. Christianity was founded by Jews: Jesus, the 12 Disciples, and Paul. It is Islam which has the historicity problems. There are no references to Mohammed for decades. The Mosques point in different directions for over 100 years as if they didn't know to pray towards Petra, Jerusalem, or the new teeny tiny tent city of Mecca (which was on no maps of the time); Mecca was home to the new power brokers after Uthman.
  12. As I recall, it was a Hockey Night in Canada score update in my area, a "hey look what The Great One did this time" kind of thing. Circa 1985. I'm glad that I'm not the only one to remember Weave.. As the memory starts to go, I start to wonder if I made the whole thing up in a dream. ?
  13. Stefan Persson(D) NYI 1978-79 78GP 10G 56A 66P +38 Dave Lumley(F) EDM 1981-1982 66GP 32G 42A 74P +12 Nothing to sneeze at. But yes, the Sabres drafting Bob Geffrion at 196 after Taro is really a head-scratcher, true.
  14. taro tsujimoto "picked" 183 overall in 1974. People talk about picking Ric Seiling over Mike Bossy. Well, in 1974, picked after Taro Tsujimoto were 2 Stanley Cup winners: Dave Lumley at 199 and Stefan Persson at 214.
  15. Mal Davis' head goal: Sabres clear puck up boards, bounces off Mal Davis' head as he's leaving the ice, bounces a couple more times, and beats the opposing goalie (I forgot who it was.) Strange goal. That's how I remember it anyhow. Best Gretzky goal that no one seems to remember nor have a copy of: Gretzky was in "his office" behind the net. He lifted the puck over the center of the net, off the goalies' back and in. Not a lacrosse goal. A flip OVER the net from behind.
  16. Anything not considered a "Big Call". RJ is the best because of his "idle" talk. He's got a quick wit. He has a large vocabulary for calling even minor events. He's _alive_. He's not some droning play-caller who is afraid to stray off the sidewalk. That's why many people don't appreciate him because they only hear the over-the-top calls. Example. The last game some college kids found their way into the press box. RJ demands of them, "Did you buy tickets [to get in]?" One of the kids sheepishly said, "no-uh-oh", knowing that RJ was teasing them. That's a real person exchange.
  17. Rochester doesn't have anything to offer. CJ Smith & Oglevie have limited upside. Borgen, Bryson, and Fitzgerald could be depth NHL d-men. I like what I see in Bryson, but he's no Gostibehere nor Krug. He's just a smart player with good positioning, but size will always be an issue. After a quick eye-test Mittelstadt reminds me a bit too much of Nylander. Granted, Mittelstadt has a LOT more drive than Nylander. But I don't ever see him as a mature driver of play like Eichel. (But of course, I said the same thing about Quinn Hughes; mea culpa) And his defence doesn't make him a 3C/4C. I afraid that Mittelstadt will be more of a 2C like Sam Gagner if Casey reaches that ceiling. This year, it's "Dernière pour Lafrenière".
  18. But, yeah, Ryan O'Reilly for Ryan Johnson is a total fail. (Bergland quit on team, Sobotka just starts to play well and gets knee blown out and is a UFA, Thompson is a bust and injured). Ryan Johnson, while a true Freshman, isn't exactly lighting it up in college.
  19. Buffalo has done some real doozies of bad trades. How about this one: Andreychuck + Puppa + #1(#12-Kenny Jonsson) --> Toronto for Grant Fuhr Then later: Grant Fuhr + Philippe Boucher + Denis Tsyguov --> to LA for Huddy, Stauber, Zhitnick, & blown 5th round pick. So, in summation it is: Andreycheck(1LW))(HOF) + Puppa(1G) + Jonsson(1D) + Boucher (1D) +Tsygurov(7D) --->Huddy(4D), Stauber(3G), Zhitnick(1D) Really, it is a bunch of great guys for one very good d-man in Zhitnick. Real Cloutier trade was another stinker: McKegney + JF Sauve + Savard --> Cloutier(party boy bum who was kicked off team by Bowman 1 year later) + Creighton(3C/2C)Giraffe Creighton was later traded to Chicago for an over-the-hill Rick Vaive(1RW)
  20. Robitaille lives with massive chronic pain, heavily dependant on his wife for help. There was article on this fact several years back. Based on last night, it seems like the mind is willing and able, and the body is likely not. [In contrast to Okposo's possible future.] I would be surprised to see him return much, if at all. What I liked most about Robitaille were his stories about his playing days, something you don't get much on radio any more where downtime is spent on commercials instead of colour-commentary. Everything has its season.
  21. The problem wasn't trading Kane away; I was all in on that. and return was OK. The problem was trading for Kane in the 1st place. Vancouver just valued Tyler Myers at $6M per year. Joel Armia is scoring goals for Montreal; he probably has more goals than our entire 3rd/4th lines. Jack Roslovic is still a good prospect/player. Brenden Lemieux (who didn't want to play in Buffalo) is still in the NHL. Stafford was still serviceable for a couple years. Our return was not even an ECHL level goalie, an injury prone d-man, Danny O'Regan who left as a UFA, and the main pick which got us Montour. Would you trade Myers, Roslovic, Armia, & Lemieux for Montour and Bogosian? Lemieux - Roslovic - Armia would make a great 3rd line for us. Yes, the Skinner trade was a Miro Satan-esque steal. But the ROR trade has been a disaster, especially with St. Louis making the playoffs at the last minute and then winning the cup, "because Buffalo". We'd better hope that Ryan Johnson turns into a great player because Thompson's ceiling looks to be Joel Armia.
  22. Yes, I'm out of range and listen on the app [via Alexa, via computer(s), via cell phones]. To clarify: the problem with last night was: a. 1st period was fine. b. Around 8:00 PM, the broadcast switched to what would have been on if not for the hockey game. And as I recall, the "On Air Now" section on the website didn't say a hockey game. It happened on three different devices to at least two people. That doesn't sound like an app problem. It sounds like an automation issue. And if it's across the board, then a simple speaker in the station should reveal the problem. Concerning the commercial "loop", OK, maybe that is an app issue, an issue that seemingly seems to cut in and out, and only on a few occasions. Bizarre. That still doesn't excuse them from: 1. reporting the problem to the public. 2. correcting the problem(app). Paul's terse "It is [playing on WGR550]" is not enough. It's quite condescending in fact. [Mini-rant: Paul's use of Twitter is a perfect example of why I hate Twitter: people often don't give any context, leaving you to have to dig through the thread to get the point. It's like TV simulcasts on radio where it can be hard to follow the play, and you certainly cannot see any of the replays. That's why I've always preferred RJ because he cut his teeth on radio and does a clearer play-by-play. And Rob Ray, for all of his faults, also does a good job explaining plays.]
  23. Sabres in Florida. Terrible play. Where's Wayne Gretzky with his obligatory Mickey Mouse comment? Maybe he was home trying to listen to the dreadful WGR550 broadcast. Most of the 2nd period went off the air last night. A listener tweeted Paul Hamilton to ask why the game wasn't on WGR. Paul tweeted back "It is". But it wasn't. Talk about lack of situational awareness! Paul was IN STUDIO and still didn't know that they weren't broadcasting the hockey game any more. After the game, Paul's cell phone went off live on air. Talk about a bonehead move! Paul should be benched for the next game to see if he can get his head back on straight. Earlier in the year, the LA game as I recall, the 3rd period broadcast was ALL COMMERCIALS. Well, the play-by-play finally reappeared with a like 4 minutes left, but cut out again in the last minute of a nail-biter. And when Koziel came on for the post-game show, he said, "Due to the lack of whistles, we're going to have to have an extra commercial break." And the feed cut for a second, only to come back to Koziel apparently oblivious to the fact that no commercials just played. This WGR team is a mess. Bush league. They need to fire their GM. Since I was forced to listen to the Lightning broadcast, I can say that they are not bush league. I mean, man, they even have Newt Gingrich on Color Commentary ! Newt had his contract with America. WGR550 needs to do a contract with their listeners. Too bad WNY is part of the country that has taken a contract out on America.
  24. Well, for starters, Stephens is a LD and Spencer is a RD. This matters because Cincinnati only had 1 true RD. Spencer is bigger. Spencer has more AHL games under his belt. They are the same age. Both were drafted in 2015: Spencer in 2nd round, Stephens 5th round. I don't know if Stephens was injured or not, but he had only played 3 games this year. Last year Stephens was +39. Either way, they were winning without Stephens; so, why not trade for a RD? Of course, in the Sabres system big picture, RD is super-abundantly staffed, while LD is only slightly overstaffed. So, in the grand scheme of things, LD remains a priority for the Sabres, especially if they trade Scandella or let him walk as a free agent this next Summer.
