  1. You know you're trying too hard when... Seriously, Tage has shown nothing other than an ability to miss the net and fail at toe drags. A position change from his pre-NHL days doesn't make that happen.
  2. If I taught economics I would use this as an example of why you shouldn't consider sunk costs when making decisions.
  3. Let's just say delayed gratification is real, and it's spectacular.
  4. It's really not. He is who has been his whole career: a 55-ish point, 30-ish goal player.
  5. Wait. You had a choice of watching 1 game and recording 1. You chose to watch the game with the known outcome and record the unknown? That's on you, man ?
  6. The Sabres may be terrible, but hey, at least Duke lost.
  7. I don't think it's necessarily true he was fired for being the wrong guy to rebuild with. At best, that's a charitable interpretation. There was a ton written about how Vigneault wasn't adapting with changes in the game. He was relying on a counter attack system in a world of possession. It worked for awhile because Hank was Hank, but if he tried to do the same thing with our goalies, it would be an abject disaster.
  8. Sure, but UB's ability to cheat pales in comparison to other programs. I'm assuming Alabama can cheat much more effectively even though their basketball program has been basically a joke. Define terrible. Obviously there's going to be a step back, but I still think they'll be competitive in-conference.
  9. Good post...other than spelling Oats' name wrong ? The program is financially protected and currently attractive due to the recent run of success. It's hard to be mad about the coach leaving for 4-5x his salary at an athletic department that is probably going to break every rule in the book to help him recruit (it's possible I'm very cynical about college athletics). I just hope we're able to hold onto his recruiting classes and can keep the momentum going.
  10. What? I'm incredibly sad to see Oats go, but how is this a dick move?
  11. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ???? Edit: Alabama has a basketball program? Who knew?
  12. It's what sucks about 1 game tournaments. I'm not saying they'd win a 7 game series against Texas Tech, but this would probably be the most lopsided of any game. Anyway, UB women with a valiant effort against UConn.
  13. UB is shooting about as well as I do. This is the game where getting the 6 seed (instead of the 5 they deserved) really hurts. Texas Tech defense is on another level.
  14. Not to mention the amount of time he's spent dragging Bogosian's anchor around.
  15. So, he's he going to scapegoat for problems in the room this offseason for 10 cents on the dollar? ?
  16. I really struggle with this being a thing, and I suspect I'll have to argue against it until the team starts wining. The team has three top-6 forwards and 1 defenseman who belongs on the top pair (who is 18), and somehow it's their fault? Not that we're missing 4 parts of a useful middle-6 or that the coach rolls out a horrible defenseman (defensively) as Drew Doughty? That's just a real tough sell to me. The team has 5 top-9 forwards (4 depending how you feel about Rodrigues), 1 top-9 center, and Vlad Sobotka being relied upon to contribute. And somehow it's the fault of our best players that they can't drag half a roster of corpses to respectability. The league as a whole has had an explosion of talent recently, which means it's harder than ever for the few to carry the many. It doesn't matter if our top line regularly wins its match-up if the other 3 lines regularly lose theirs. Auston Matthews is having a season nearly identical to Jack, and he even went through a Skinner-esque 12 game goal drought at one point. It didn't matter. Why? Because that team still had Tavares, Marner, Jounsson, Kadri, etc. to carry the offensive load. Our stars hit a slump and it's pure death because there's nobody else.
  17. I have no idea. I think Phil clearly didn't like what Pilut brings and does value Tage, but I'm not going to pretend to know how that weighs with what Botterill does.
  18. I think Pilut was pretty clearly better than all of those defenseman. Sure, he got out muscled, but what he added with his passing and decision making with the puck was infinitely more valuable than what Scandella and Beaulieu brought. I also thought Smith was clearly more effective than Thompson.
  19. He's aware he can't bring American born NCAA players, right?
  20. UB hasn't surpassed them yet and it'll be interesting to see how the program does with the senior exodus about to happen. But Syracuse has definitely been in decline since joining the ACC with no signs of turning it around.
  21. UB! UB! UB! UB! Zero stress in the men's game. Women had some stress, but comfortably pulled away in the second half. Let's go sweet 16!
  22. Embrace the low bar. It's all we have.
