  1. Weber, Emelin, Alzner...Montreal looking to assemble an elite defensive unit circa 2001.
  2. If we bridge him I'll throw a hissy fit that would make Liger blush.
  3. I think 5 buys one year of UFA. Not greet, but I believe 4 was the worst. To me, it's go 6+. Nothing else makes much sense.
  4. Would $8M now be any higher as percentage of the cap than Gaudreau or Tarasenko at the time of signing? Probably not. Also, Jack plays center, they're both wingers. That said, I do think they're the best comparables, and would be surprised if Jack got above $8M by any significant degree.
  5. Another of the bargain bin wingers I'm interested in. We've seen you liquored up--I don't think there's a maybe here :nana:
  6. Fair. I was getting more at plenty didn't think he was worth the price, not necessarily they didn't think he was a good player.
  7. None: they are who we thought they were. Bogosian is not good. He has never been good. Be will not be good. Though I do expect he'll be improved enough that we're no longer pining for the days of Mess and Balls. Ennis is cooked. He's not the same, and the league is so much faster now, that even with his old wheels he wouldn't have a speed advantage. Moulson is shot. He can put up some PP points, but is overall pretty useless. He just can keep up anymore. Girgensons never died.
  8. Judge Dredd was goddamn awful. The reboot with Karl Urban was infinitely superior.
  9. It's not even so much that I'm his biggest fan, it's just that the underlying numbers suggest he's the same guy he was under Nolan. How raw production being lower is due to going from top line minutes and 1st PP unit to 3rd-4th line minutes and no PP time. Popular perception, however, was unreasonably high during the Nolan year and is unjustly low now. He's a versatile depth player, and that's all he's ever been.
  10. Au contraire! We should dig the O'Reilly debate out of the archive for review--I remember the price paid being quite contentious.
  11. Since we have a new coach, I think you're released from Matthews avatar purgatory. Unless you've become a fan...
  12. Or Tim Murray and Dan Bylsma were just bad at evaluating defensemen.
  13. In today's episode of "you know it's summer when"...we argue about how far down the depth chart a defenseman has to be in order to be considered a depth defenseman. :p Good signing. Still like him more than Falk.
  14. Am I allowed to second this, or do we need an independent 3rd party to do so?
  15. Confession: I've been reading this name as Clarke Drake. Whoops. #implicitbiasstrikesagain
  16. Committee should've waited until the CBA expires so we could have a lockout in his honor. Once the arthritis kicks in you probably won't be able to so it as much as you'd like.
  17. Among the bargain bin wingers I have interest in to boost our depth.
  18. Though his offense never blossomed the way many anticipated, he did turn himself into a smooth-skating defensive defenseman (see: the real kind, not the perceived kind) who is a nice value 4/5 type. He's been a positive CF% player his career except the last two years, but he was still a positive CF% relative player (what can I say, the Wings and Rags give up a lot of shots  ). His CF% and CA/60 were both 3rd on the Rangers, behind only Clandening (another good value add, IMO) and Skjei...or put differently, he was the 2nd best shot suppressor among defensemen that Vigneault didn't staple to the press box as often as possible. Only 28 and coming off a 2 year $2.75M AAV contract, I think he's another Beaulieu-type addition who can play 3rd pair easily and while competing for a 2nd pair spot, and I doubt he gets any kind of a hefty raise because he has neither the profile of an Alzner nor the production of a Shattenkirk.
  19. No. Brendan Smith, on the other hand...
  20. I'm big on Shattenkirk, but I'm not willing to overpay unless we could clear off a bad contract. If we could flip Bogo's deal into Shattenkirk, plus a few hundred thousand or so, that would be an absolute coup.
  21. And the guys who everyone has heard of are still barely more likely to be NHL players than you or I. We're talking about the 3rd round of the NHL draft. I know drafting's important, but we're talking about the 3rd round. Not the 1st round. Not the 2nd round. We're talkin about round 3, man.
  22. Fans day 1: I can't believe we didn't reach for a defenseman! Fans day 2: I can't believe we're reaching for defensemen! :p
  23. They probably didn't make it through the night.
  24. Day 2 is only on NHL Network. BAH!
