  1. Gotcha. I misunderstood. Flutie, Bledsoe, Tyrod. I'd never want to bet on any of them in a given year (which, admittedly, is kind of the source of the "QB wins" narrative), but with proper team construction I think they could all win one. Bradford the prospect? That's absolutely good enough. Prospect Bradford was fantastic. Bradford the NFL quarterback? Hell no. That's nowhere near acceptable if we're trading assets to get him.
  2. See, I think this thought experiment makes the same mistake though: viewing the league landscape only through our own experience as Bills fans rather than taking the wider view. That experience being the driving force between simply needing the team to find a franchise guy is completely understandable (and this is made all the stronger by getting our teeth kicked in by Brady). My issue is simply when that narrow experience is projected onto the league as a whole and magnified as some kind of general truth. TLDR: QB is far and away the most important singular position on a team, but unless you're talking about Brady/Manning/Rodgers level, the overall impact has become wildly overstated. Which is more than I can say for the current draft coverage. I can't listen to WGR anymore. It's unbearable, and has been for weeks.
  3. Bruins got completely shafted, and I care not a-tall. Couldn't happen to a nicer team. Now I want to watch amazing hockey in game 7 for 59:55 where suddenly in the last 5 seconds a sinkhole opens up and swallows both teams.
  4. Football Perspective‏ @fbgchase 6m6 minutes agoMore Reminder that in the last 10 years, half of the Super Bowls have been won by Eli Manning, Joe Flacco, Nick Foles, zombie Peyton Manning, and Ben Roethlisberger in the second worst season of his career. But tell me more about how great QB play is more important than ever. 0 replies0 retweets1 like Reply Retweet Like 1 Direct message *ducks* I know the argument about consistent competitiveness for a single franchise. I even agree with it. But the narrative has gone too far, IMO.
  5. Then I could live with a Risto-Guhle second pairing ;) Bogosian is still gross, though. I really hope Antipin/Nelson get slotted there.
  6. Please stab me in the face if that's what our blue line looks like.
  7. Personally, I need to see him do this for a second season before I'm convinced it was more than a blip.
  8. Liger is just warming up for the Josh Allen pick :P Edit: For whatever it's worth, I would also swap prospect pools....until June. Whoever we draft in the top-4 will put ours over the edge I think.
  9. Devil's advocate: there are worse things that could happen than a marketing guy to be whispering "quarterback" into Beane's ear :) That's all I've got.
  10. Sure, in the same way that Grigorenko was intriguing as a #1C. I disagree with literally this entire post  It's not useless, we're just tired of seeing it for nearly 3 decades. Look, I'm as entertained by Liger freakouts as anyone. But please not with this. Do NOT wish for this to be the trigger.
  11. He didn't verbalize being mentally weak, you just interpreted it that way. Going no farther than our own Sabres, there is a long history of our best players being disliked when the team is bad or disappointing. Derek "not a #1C" Roy and Thomas "should have taken the picks" Vanek are two relatively recent examples. Elsewhere, a mere few seasons ago Toronto fans wanted to run Kadri out of town when the team was bad. Now he's scoring 30 goals for a playoff team.
  12. Also, being one of the best players on a bad team is a good way to get real unpopular real quick.
  13. Finally saw Justice League. It was bad, but enjoyably bad. Bad in a fun way, if you will. I'd obviously have preferred it be good, but fun bad is better than bad bad (see also: Suicide Squad).
  14. Didn't you at some point say Jackson wouldn't even be on your draft board? If that's not hate, I don't know what is! :p At least we're on the same page with Allen. It's nauseating just to think about possibly drafting him.
  15. That's because you hate him! I don't think he gets past Arizona or Baltimore.
  16. Unless Rosen slides and we can snag him at 8 or something, I'm increasingly of the mind that our best option is to stand pat and take Jackson at 12. This, of course, is entirely dependent upon how you feel about Jackson. I love him, and I'd much rather have him than Darnold, Allen, or Rudolph. YMMV. Best case scenario: Rosen slides towards the back of the top-10 and we can move up for him while keeping most of our picks Best "realistic" scenario: Jackson at 12. Things I wouldn't personally do, but would be okay with: trading a lot for Rosen or Mayfield. Things that would make me kick a puppy: trading a lot for Allen or Darnold, taking Rudolph at 12 over Jackson.
  17. I'm simply in awe of how dominant the Bergeron line is. Remember when people thought he was the ideal 3rd line center because he had the audacity to play defense? He can center my best line any day.
  18. Would you have felt this way if Ullmark didn't faceplant?
  19. Anyone who decided to watch all of those games deserves what they got
  20. Until we trade all of our picks for Josh Allen, and you proceed to want to off yourself :p
  21. Unfortunately, there are people who would say this without sarcasm.
  22. I just keep coming back to the notion that I can't see a trade that happens where moving O'Reilly makes us better. Would I trade him for Colton Parayko? Yes. Do I think St. Louis would? No. And on and on we go. With respect, Dudacek, some of those moves you suggested make us considerably worse, IMO. Jenner and Murray, or Nuge and Larsson? Freaking vomit.
  23. 1) There's nothing wrong with it. I'm just saying that $5.4 million isn't "next to nothing." That's a significant contract. 2)
  24. Well Dahlin is a leftie, so unless Risto is upgraded, I imagine he'd still be top pair right side. I agree with this (minus the assessment of his contract being next to nothing). I desperately want to see him in a reduced role. Hence my desire to go after Hamilton even if we get Dahlin.
