I haven't relied on the News for my Sabres coverage for several years now. And as a subscriber to The Athletic, I find their content for teams quite superior to what we've gotten from the News.

O’Reilly, Smith and Lehner - Sabres Next Season?
TrueBlueGED replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
The injury point is fair, but I highly doubt Huberdeau puts up the same numbers if he were tasked with O'Reilly's assignments. And he was talking about a draft pick that eventually becomes Huberdeau-level. -
I hope he doesn't just to get your reaction :p

I'd argue goaltending is both the easiest to fix and the easiest to botch. Such is life with goalies. As a result, I do think there's value in trying to get some level of certainty back there. I'm just not a fan of that certainty coming from an old guy, regardless of how good he was this season. How am I doing at straddling the line on this one?
-
The whole of this is certainly fair. But while you may not be going for a quick fix with an unproven 24 year-old, you're still going for a quick fix--just with a 36 year-old. IMO this is just as bad as what Murray did, albeit from the opposite end of the spectrum. Want to give up a real asset for Holtby who fixes the hole and has a future? Sure, that makes sense. Doing so for someone at the end of the road is a lot more questionable. The Leafs didn't build a wonderful pipeline with players like Dermott and Johnsson by trading away picks for quick, and temporary, fixes.

That's all it took to get rid of you? I'd have conceded something else ages ago if I knew it would be so easy :p Really though, you can't retire until you convince me that Ryan Murray and/or Sam Bennett are worth holding out hope for.

O’Reilly, Smith and Lehner - Sabres Next Season?
TrueBlueGED replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
This is weird to me. Huberdeau has a whopping one season where he out-produced O'Reilly offensively, gets easier matchups, and also plays a less valuable position. -
I thought the PP time was vastly different between Beaulieu and Antipin, but I just looked it up and Beaulieu only got about 6.5 more minutes in 12 more games. I concede. UNCLE! Antipin is not the hill I'm going to die on
-
He was considerably more impressive than Beaulieu and Lehner last season. I think you continue to understate just how bad Lehner was. And this is coming from someone who has been tepidly supportive of him during his time here. For me, Housley had the benefit of the doubt before the season. That slowly eroded when observing his decisions. From messing with the PP1 unit the first ~3 months of the season, to playing Risto like he's Doughty, to letting Beaulieu make one blunder after another while still being fed ice time. Messing up a #6 defenseman is far from criminal, but Housley obviously never gave Antipin a chance to play through some flubs, whereas other Dmen (the aforementioned Beaulieu, plus Falk, and Gorges) had near unlimited rope. Housley is human, and all coaches do this sort of thing, so this is probably my last post on the matter. But I don't think it's unfair to suggest the tolerance he had for Antipin's mistakes was lower than for others.

It's always dangerous to assume what Liger's point was, but I think he was saying a late-1st has value and shouldn't be tossed away in a trade for a season of a 36 year-old goalie.
-
Gotcha. The Warriors have played like hot garbage tonight and would have been down 20+ if the refs weren't abominable.
-
Are you talking about the ref team tonight? Because this is easily among the worst officiated games I've ever seen.

Tom Wilson with a dirty hit? Why I never...

I have this and the Rockets-Warriors on split screen and I think I'm on sensory overload. SPORTS!

Neither am I. I wouldn't lose my mind if we managed to give up Bogo in the deal, but it's not a move I'd champion either.
-
Rinne was great this year, but his previous two years he was a below average goalie on a good defensive team. He's going to be 36 a month into the season. I'm not exactly confident he'd fix the position for a season.
-
I still think Antipin would have been a nice piece on the 3rd pair. Shame Housley stapled him to the bench and/or press box the moment he made a mistake.
-
I don't think so either, but it's not like Cleveland was healthy either. Now I just need Houston to win tomorrow and I think LeBron has a shot at #4.
-
LeBron. That is all.

O’Reilly, Smith and Lehner - Sabres Next Season?

No thanks. I'll happily take Pacioretty off their hands though. -

Price has negative trade value, IMO. That contract is one of the worst in the league. -
Ristolainen, O'Regan and Baptiste - Sabres Next Season?

When they're not busy defrauding their customers, sure. I do love Mazdas, though. If I could afford it, I'd get a CX-9 without hesitation. As is, the new Mazda6 is quite sexy. -
O’Reilly, Smith and Lehner - Sabres Next Season?

The upgrade is likely in terms of value, not outright performance. Lehner played like a $1 million dollar goaltender last year while being paid 4x that. -

Those are fantastic! My brother-in-law just got one last year and it was the first time I've ever thought I might want to have something other than a sporty/ish car. As with most things, it all depends what you're looking for. For my purposes, a truck would never be on my list, even if financially it were a good deal.
