Aho fits the bill, but no way Carolina moves him. Risto isn't cheap depth. He's paid to be a top pair defender. How many teams have 2-3 defensemen making more than him?

This is true, but Subban is straight up better than O'Reilly. You make the move then figure out a subsequent move to balance it, with Risto being the most logical chip.

IF O'Reilly gets traded, I think it'll tell us a lot about where Botterill thinks the team is at. Given there's no compelling reason to move him (such as entering the last year of his contract), if Botterill trades him for futures, to me that means he thinks the team won't compete for 3 years.
