  1. I tend to agree with Hank here. It's the only reasonable explanation that he will sign a reasonable deal before his QO is tendered. Hence a 'handshake' deal. It's the only way this thing makes sense. I think Montreal balked at the signing bonus ...
  2. I think that all sport have gone insane with the salaries. Seems like the deals that world footballers have signed are more reasonable, except of course for Messi (about 126M US$ including endoresments*), Ronaldo (about 117M US$ Including endorsements*) and Naymar (just under 100M US$). The next highest 7 range from 27M to 42M, which is in the Vlad range you mentioned. I realize that world football is a huge $ maker far outpacing the NFL on a worldwide basis. Seems like the NHL salaries are a bargain by comparison, but it's not a fair comparison. * those are the contracts with their previous clubs, so I am not sure what their new deals are worth with their new clubs. Another interestng thing is the clubs get compensated through a funky transfer fee system in the top European leagues. Paging @LastPommerFan to the other sports thread ... Come in LPF!! I really miss that guy.
  3. Where is the game? If it’s in Pittsburgh, then I am with @inkman. If it’s in Buffalo, then Bills by a gazillion.
  4. I tend to agree, but they signed Springer last year. I think they are really trying to get there. I am not sure how much longer they control Vlad, but I think it’s a few more years.
  5. Seems like you are having a damn phone moment here right at the start ... LOL!! I like it though.
  6. I believe they will, since it seems unlikely that the post season this year will happen. They did what they needed to do this weekend and swept the A's. The first two were really something a come from way back win and yesterday was an almost snatching defeat from the jaws of victory thing. Today with Mr. Ray on the hill was no sweat. Big time series against the damn Yankees starting tomorrow afternoon.
  7. Very impressive outing. 6 and 2/3 innings of 1 hit ... 10 SO ... 3 BB ... no runs. Very nice, indeed.
  8. Taking the over.
  9. 'All in' ..
  10. The link below says he will be UFA in 2026 (on June 30, 2026), which means 2 more seasons after this contract ends, no? This contract ends after the 2023/24 season then there is 2024/25 (RFA) and 2025/26 (RFA). I am sure this is the same as Joker, because both have had the exact same contracts signed at the same time. I don't know why I am wasting so much precious time on this ... LOL!! I could be dead by then. https://puckpedia.com/player/casey-mittelstadt I do believe that good ol' NS has been vindicated ... ha!!
  11. Yes. It's 7 years service, or 27 years old, whichever comes first. @Thorny and I had a little back and forth about what would have constituted both players first year of service. Both ate their first year of their ELC in the year they signed them (both were 20 years old), but neither counted as a year of service. Therefore, I believe that both will have 2 RFA years left at the end of these contracts. That said, I have seen this reported, but I can't find a 100% reliable sourse, like capfriendly or something to confirm. It all hinges on the first year of service not being the first year of their ELC, which I believe they were not.
  12. Both he and the Joker will have 2 years RFA after their new contracts end. I do think someone in the FO now knows more about this stuff than others and it's not KA 'cus he gave the last 1 year contract to Samson. That said, it's very possible by that time Samson said to late ... I ain't gonna sign here, except for 1 more year and only if I really have to. These are good contract that offer some flexability at the end of the 3 years. I still expect extensions of longer term will be signed at the end of year 2 for both, assuming all goes well, of course.
  13. Jumpin' Jehoshaphat ... you know better than that.
  14. Awesome!! Except for the Mayo ... Barf!!
  15. Hey @Eleven, I thought that you didn't allow tennis in here? Maybe I have that all wrong.
  16. Seems like both of us were caught a bit in the others sarcastic takes. Cool!! I like it. LOL!!
  17. @Thorny gets it and gave me a lol thingie. It was a play on the fact that many here think these Sabres are / will be terrible. I actually think that they will not be very terrible atoll.
  18. Man, the BJs never make it easy. Boom and Boomer!!
  19. It's all good. Somebody merged the threads.
  20. That's not very terrible. Not great. Not even good, but all in all and considering what we have to work with ... not very terrible. The D is actually not terrible, as in a step above not very terrible. Well, the top 4 anyway. Bryson might be okay too. Those are mostly NHL players.
  21. And ... ... merged. At least I was in both before that happened.
  22. Any one that does not make a living at whatever sport they are playing where ever thay play it. Endorsements are fine. Living expenses are fine. No age limit, like WJC. I love(d) Dave Hannan, but I would not have allowed him to do what he did.
  23. Which is basically what I said, even if the way I got there is not exactly right, or kind of right. At the end of the day he will be RFA at the end of this contract. I still think if all goes well he will be extended, same with the Joker man, at the end of the second year.
  24. The first year does count, but it matters when it's signed. Casey was 20 when he signed his ELC. So, at the end of this contract he will have 6 years and will be 25 years old. So, he does not make either criteria for UFA at the end of this contract, but I think that he will only have one year RFA remaining after this contact ends. He also gains arbitration rights after this coming season, which may or may not mean much. I am willing to bet that if all goes well Casey will be signed to an extension at the end of the second year of this contract. Joker is the same situation. Both contracts actually line up nicely that way. Seems that someone in the FO knows a lot more about this stuff than previous regimes. Of course, I could have that all wrong, which has been known to happen.
  25. Hey @Mustache of God I just noticed that there is a training camp thread that had been established some days ago. It has a lot of real good info in it, such as when it is a junk like that.
