Nice wake up call and come back win.
I hope they know the way to San Jose. They have a few days to figure it out.

Some of the assistant coaches seem to be in over their heads.
It's the fine tuning that needs to be done.
The decision was made to sacrifice some offence for better defence. Teaching defence takes time.
Playoff was likely not a reasonable goal this season with the change to focus on the defencive game.
The Sabres will be fine. They need a bit more time.

Only 9 points from 8th and picking 6th in the draft. Hoping Ottawa and Columbus can get a win streak going soon. Maybe we can draft someone like Power again 😐

They probably are staying in the same hotel for a few nights until they figure out the way to San Jose.
That may be a good thing.
Any of our Southern Californians going / went to the games. I did not read the GDT past page 3.
I know @pi2000 has ties to the Ducks, or maybe he is making that all up to impress the chickidoodles around here.

To the Jays fans here, how many recall the story of Chris Colabello?
Colabello hit .321 in 2015 until he got caught using PED's. After that, he had a few years in the minors before his career completely fizzled out.
I know this is going to bring out the regular chorus of boo birds, but any time I see an athlete fall off the cliff as Thompson has, my mind goes to PED's. Was he taking something last year (and the end of the season before) to give him an edge?
Likely, Thompson needs surgery and is playing in pain... Either that or he's mentally checked out and isn't putting in the work off the ice. Ever since Colabello though, I'll always wonder about PED's for guys who fall off a cliff like Thompson. (The exception is Alek Manoah, who seems to have fallen victim to the 🍩 rather than PED's).

One of the key standards on this board is to debate the comment, not the poster. There's only one poster in here that I feel consistently bullies people around.. Often times under the guise of debating the post. When you say things like I've seen said to others that, this is "truly the dumbest thing I've ever seen", it goes way beyond debating the post. You've taken a piece out of the poster.
Again, AS I SAID, likely Tage's struggles are due to a surgery he's put off or just lack of motivation. Just after seeing one of my favourite players of the Jays '15 run go down like Colo did, my mind still goes there.
To the other posters that come on here, and consistently say things I don't agree with... Cheers! I'll try not to berate you, or treat you poorly. We all have our own lived experiences to get us to where we are today. Also, many of you are legitimately funny. I'm not sure if you're trolling or genuinely mean it, but keep doing what you're doing because you're entertaining nonetheless.
Go Sabres!

I will say his falloff from 94 points to a projected 54 (albeit in 6 less games) is pretty unprecedented. Given the extreme fall off (way more than anyone I recall who subsequently went on IR or get surgery), my mind harkens back to Colabello... whether it's right or not.
Also, if he does need surgery (the most likely case- given a full offseason didn't seem to help), we should probably put him on IR now so he's back ready for next year. Last year, he had you out of your seat almost everytime he touched the puck. This year, you could count on one hand the number of times he's had a holy 💩moment.
If it's not an injury, I'd consider shopping him while he still has some of last year's shine on him.
Those are your recent posts in this thread.
A terrible take. Bottom line.
I know why the mods let it stand, but that does not make it not a terrible take.

I would swap Greenway and JJP. Quinn and JJP really hit it off. Both will help Cuzsie. Mitts with Greenway crashing the net and Benson buzzing around will drive defenders nuts.
My work here is done.
Guess that's lunch.

He had Josh Allen and he chose to put the ball into Hamlin's hands??
You mean the college coach who just won a national championship? The one who won coach of the year in the NFL in 2011 and took the 49ers with Kap to the Super Bowl? Pretty sure that would be considered an upgrade over McDermott
Hamlin has good hands and can move. That was not where the play went south.
Yup. That's the college coach I am talking about. What did he do after 2011 in the NFL? Serious question. All I know is that at some point he went to Michigan.
I also seem to remember some questions as to his character.

If our billionaire owner can’t afford Jim Harbaugh maybe he can just ask the state for a few more bucks so we can make him the leagues highest paid coach.
A college coach should not come into the Bills at this point.
If a change is made (I don't think one will be nor needs to be) it will be for a proven NFL coach.
I think the only one available is Bill B.

It was a gutsy call by McD. A good call.
Can't blame the coach if the players did not execute the play properly.

Hat tip to our fearless leader @SDS. Other than the National Weather Service (lol - I'm such a funking nerd), this board is my favourite place on the internet.
And thanks for the mention, @inkman. I enjoy so many posters here, including you. I especially enjoy when posters have a distinct "voice." There are many who manage that. Including inky, yes. @PASabreFan as well. Many others.
Whither @Eleven? e-RIP @X. Benedict.
Thank you for the hat tip to @SDS, without whom none of this would be a thing.
@Eleven is on a bit of a leave. He will be back asap and did make a guest appearance in a GDT not too long ago.
We have lost many over the years. @X. Benedict did make a cameo when RJ passed. @deluca67 retired when the Sabres last attained his magical number - all those years ago.

McD coached a good game.
There, I've said it.
The players blew some plays, but overall the Bills played well enough to win and almost did. That's not good enough.
The fact remains that they are not quite there to get over the hump, especially when most years they will end up meeting KC in the playoff at some point.
KC knows more of what it takes to win in the playoff. Their 2 recent SB wins are your proof. The Bills have not been able to do that since reaching the playoff 5 or 6 seasons in a row. Winning the division 4 in a row. This year they played KC at home (the first road playoff game for KC since Mahomes became their starter). The Bills still could not do it, but very close.
These are two very closely matched teams. Josh and Patrick are a push. Patrick has Kelce - Josh doesn't. Again, the most urgent need for the Bills this offseason is to find Josh his Kelce.
The Bills are 3 -1 in the regular season in the last 4 years - all on the road, I believe. The Bills are 0 - 3 in the playoff against KC. That is the most telling stat.

I suppose so then. I thought it could be 2 but if it can only be 1 so be it. I'd give him 3 years or maybe even 4 if it was cheap. Under 2.
It could be 2 years, but that takes him right to UFA status at the end of it. @Taro T,s plan of 3 years would buy 1 UFA year. A 1 year deal has him UFA at the end of it.
======
6K has played pretty well most of the season. The team in front of him hasn't always been his friend. Mostly not his friend.
I agree with @Hank that he has finally come into his own and has developed into a fairly steady goaler.
The gamble is .. if they want him around for a while at a reasonable price tag then offer him a 3 year deal at $1.85M per. It buys 1 year of UFA status and gives Levi a chance to blossom (or possibly not blossom - I think he will).
If by the end of the season there is enough evidence that the Sabres think that 6K will be a reliable #2 long-term and Levi being #1 then I would sign him for 5 years and $12.5M.
If there is still some questions at the end of the season - sign him for 1 year at $1.75M. Gives another year to see what happens with him and Levi. Still RFA at the end of it and then can sign him for 3(+) years at the end of next season.

Wide right. Are you kidding me.
It's always hard no matter how your team loses, but who would not have signed up for this after the OT loss in Philly?
I really thought that the Bills were going to do it against the Chiefs at home. The Chiefs have won Superbowls and always seem to turn it up a notch in key playoff games and at specific times during those games. The Bills have not been able to do that. Came very close last night, especially considering the defence was missing so many. With a completely healthy D the Bills would have likely won that game.
The coach is fine. Bass is fine. Just about everything else is fine.
The one thing that the Bills need to find is Josh's Kelce. Mahomes and Kelce are stars, but together they are special.
Speaking of Kelce ... Jason was a hoot. Tailgating with the best of them. The very drunk brother-in-law at the party. Took his shirt off and was topless pretty much the whole time. Climbed out of the box and was shirtless with the fans in the stands at one point. He was better to look at than what's her name.

Prediction Time: Will DG be fired during the season? If so, when?
in The Aud Club
Posted
If they fire Granato in season I think they will name his permanent successor at that time in the hopes to save the playoff. We have to take a look at who is available now.
I really don't think they will fire him in season at this point.
