  1. Are Zibanejaf and Gorges related? I know they aren't. But they look like it.
  2. Aww, that's too bad. There are some really bad ones though.
  3. Well. The New England IPA hasn't totally died out. Granted it's being adapted with the tropical IPA and other styles.
  4. People bitch about not liking the "dark" beers because they are "heavy". They'll gladly knock down a 7.6% IPA that has more malt in it than a 5.5% stout and declare it's not as heavy. That said, I think the message you are taking is a bit too personal. The bar owner is going to cater to what can turn over the fastest on the taps and for a long time that was IPA. It's still commonly IPA. Most beer bars are also going to overcharge for everything. The sports bar I was in this past weekend was in our Comfort Inn (Pittsburgh). The pints of beer were basically capped at $4. The selection wasn't great but for some of the beers it would still be $2 more at a beer bar. Rochester Ice Center (Thomas Creek) has Triphammer IPA on for $4/pint. Scottsville Ice Rink had Sierra Nevada Celebration at $4. Again, many places are going to have those for a minimum of $5.50 and up. Granted it's still no $2 Labatt or $1.50 Genny...
  5. So it's not your thing. But that doesn't mean it's not a thing right? For a lot of people drinking a Genny Light brings the same level of excitement as IPAs do to you. I'll have water before Genny Light because I like the flavor better. I'll drink a regular Genny, but it won't take much competition before I switch elsewhere. It's my preference. There aren't a lot of good foreign extra stouts. Guinness makes one.. I'm not a huge fan but I like it better than the regular than the flagship. Best one I ever had was a limited release from Otter Creek called OtterMon. I made one once and I thought it was excellent. 7% alcohol but dry and light bodied. Technically Big Head Todd from Three Heads is a foreign extra stout but I don't think the body is light enough on it to really qualify it into that style as opposed to a regular stout.
  6. Sure.. they have to get someone to take one of their two current random goalies off their roster however. Goalies that are currently sucking up $7.8M of cap space. Granted they rid themselves of Halak net year but they still have $3.3M invested in Greiss. Unless you can continually sign goalies to 1 year contracts you can't just keep signing random goalies and hope one of them is good enough to get your team to the playoffs. You'll eventually run out of roster/contract spots. So you have to apply at least a modicum of thought and evaluation to who you sign.
  7. There are no rules about it. You drink it like you would drink Genny Light. Clearly you're throwing some kind of shade at some concept of beer snobbery but I'm not sure why. Beer is beer. Drink whatever you want. An IPA will be a heavier beer and have a higher alcohol content. If the intent, as you indicated, is to have beer on a hot day then the Session IPA is an alternative and nothing more. Session IPA is a style, just like your macro beer is an American Adjunct Lager. They have style names and that doesn't mean anything regarding being pretentious etc. If you want a stronger beer that's designed for hotter weather then check out the Foreign Extra Stout style. They have a higher alcohol volume but reduce their overall body by using turbinado sugar (usually) to help drive up the alcohol content. If you aren't interested in alternatives then have a nice day.
  8. I had pastrami or corned beef.. not sure which. It just wasn't anything amazing.. You know.. why not a nice fried SPAM sandwich. :P
  9. There are plenty of beer alternatives to consume. A good Hefe should run around or under 5% abv and be refreshing. Berliner Weisse. The session IPAs.. some pilsners as well. There are a few rice beers that would fit the bill as well. Indeed.. the prevailing wisdom is that Guinness is carbed at about 1.5-2.0 whereas many others will be carbed up at 2.2-2.5. Guinness is also not pure CO2 as it has the nitrogen blend to give it the creaminess. Of course, most beer is overcarbed in the can or bottle to help it sustain shelf-life. Ideally if you pour the beer out and you do so with enough violence you will release a decent amount of the carbonation and get it back to the 2.2 level or so you probably would prefer it at. I would agree, on All Day. But the session IPA concept in and of itself is not. There are some very good session IPAs. Founders knew it had a good thing in the popularity of the beer and I think when they went to the canning of it and putting out 15 packs, etc. that the volumes required them to reduce the quality just enough that it doesn't really resonate with me anymore.
  10. I'm a fan of Okposo. I would like to get more out of him and I am sure he'd like that as well. If this team weren't so crappy at scoring I am sure we would see more out of him. He's not going to generate a ton of offense but I think he can help offense if there's enough around him.
  11. Not even. At least Drouin plays in the NHL and when he was sent to the AHL he wasn't scratched (as far as I know) He's had time to mature. He's going to realize at age 27 what he threw away just to be a brash and flashy idiot who only likes to do things his way. I mean.. John Tavares couldn't get him straightened out. I bet the Islanders would love to have more than a random goalie right now. They are lighting it up but battling for a playoff spot because their two goaltenders are JAGs and suck.
  12. regardless of all the crap... I'd rather have a game to talk about... so at least there's that.
  13. Did I read that the new facility is in Niagara Falls? I could just ask the people I know who work there I suppose. :)
  14. Damn right. I ate sandwich at Katz's once.... I've no desire to have another. It was a lot of mediocre meat on some bread for more than a car payment. I also read it that way. Glad I am not the only one. They are actually pretty good chicken tenders. Which, is what they call them, because they use the actual chicken tender, and not some mincemeat chicken parts that Tyson uses and every restaurant buys. And out of two pages of posts... I quoted you 3 times? Damn.
  15. You mean this Ho-Sang? https://www.bardown.com/the-islanders-ahl-coach-called-out-josh-ho-sang-for-being-a-baby-and-immature-1.967090 Yea... no thanks. At this point I think if someone offered the Islanders a yellow raincoat they'd trade Ho-Sang for it.
  16. I have always thought its a good possibility. A team is going to take him regardless of the speed issue. There are teams who need center depth and faceoff help. O'Reilly is the kind of player that can return significant value on the back end to jump start the D. You know you have Mittelstadt coming and Eichel is your #1 center. Even if it's one more year before you get your true #2 center into the organization, if you can shore up the D next year the team will improve. That and I still believe Tavares ends up in Buffalo next year. :)
  17. Donnelly's in Fairport brines their own brisket and then roasts it and slices the corned beef like a BBQ joint serves their smoked brisket. It's thick slices, flakes apart, and is unbelievable. Currently, this is why I would agree with you 100%. The reuben is dynomite. I have had one of those... it was really good. But not... great. Wegmans subs are shite compared to any decent deli. Hell, my local supermarket makes better subs. Once upon a time Wegman's had great subs.. then they went all operational efficiency on them and the rolls went downhill, the precise measurement of meat incurred.. COUNTING the banana peppers happened.. no thanks. I don't need a rocket scientist making my sammich. I'm pretty sure the NHL has never had a decent Cuban player.
  18. Saw them play at a small concert in Central Park around 1995. It was a cloudy day with a light misting rain in late Spring when everything was green. Seemed oddly fitting for the music. Was always a fan... she had been diagnosed with bi-polar disorder according to what I had read yesterday.
  19. Why? How slow was Crosby's start this season? What was McDavid's pointless streak at? Matthews production is down as well and he's playing for the best coach to have ever coached anything (according to some). Slumps happen and are expected. You need a TEAM that can score, not a person.
  20. Yeah. I'd stay as far away from that as possible. He's on a winning team and not getting his 20 minutes a night. He wants a trade to set himself up for free agency? He's all about himself and not at all about the team. Where does he think he's going to end up with that trade? What top team is going to trade for him for a playoff run and put him in their top pairings? Can't be that many... So, most likely he'd end up on a non-playoff team and get his ice time and then he's going to hope that someone signs him to a bigger deal? He should just put a big red flag on his player profile picture.
  21. Really? The top point getter in the league is Kucherov at 60 poitns. There are only 9 players at 50 points or greater and 2 are Islanders, 2 are Lightning, 2 are Flyers, with Winnipeg, Calgary, and Colorado rounding out the 50+ scorers. All teams that are near the top in offense in the league as well. McDavid has 48 points. Using the P/GP.. Eichel is at .93. Matthews is .94. Crosby, .98, Ovechkin and McDavid are 1.09. None of them are on teams that are just awful at offense except Eichel. The guy is the Sabres entire offense essentially. If any part of the team was a threat other than who was paired with him I am sure he would have more points as well. If the power play wasn't a joke I am sure the points would be there. Think of the number of times the pass from Risto to him on the PP has been off and Jack can't take the one-timer? Moreover, his game has been improving since the start of the season. I think we can all say that we're seeing that. I do agree in that I think he can be better but looking where players are in stats I think your point totals are a bit of a stretch.
  22. No thanks. I don't want different size rinks. It was a fun quirk but these days it's quite unnecessary. I could imagine teams somehow building in temporary seating to shrink a rink every now and then as needed.
  23. If only someone said that yesterday before the game (when he clearly jumped to #1 from #5). Oh.. I did. Yes, my shoulder is sore now but my back feels better. :)
  24. Nah. Stood next to him last year when we visited with him after the game. He's 6'4
