  1. For what it's worth I would not dismiss what I am saying so easily then. The battle over information control and the use of that information to influence policy and public opinion is mostly never seen by many and certainly not understood by most. If you aren't familiar with the SuperMicro incident the basic premise is that rather than try and hack the systems themselves the manufacturer of a chip that goes onto the motherboard that SuperMicro used in their supplies to companies like Amazon and Apple introduced backdoor that allowed them access to the systems, bypassing the OS, etc. It was found out eventually and stopped, although quite quietly. The recent reports are all based on statements with no hard acknowledgement of it ever happening. Could imagine what would happen to the stock of Amazon or Apple if it was publicly acknowledged their corporate and cloud systems were compromised? My statement was long the same lines that election hacking could be engineered the same way. It seems far-fetched, but in reality, it's not all that difficult to do. A lot of these things are brought about by slowly manipulating the system and guiding it where you want it to go. The "breaches" that we get to hear about on the news are not the same kind of attack nor are they designed for the same purpose. The things that are possible these days is incredible. I'm no longer as knowledgeable as I was in my earlier years but given the growth of the information age I don't see it lessening. Back then, what the public knew as possible and what was really possible were not even close. I would laugh at what was reported in the news or depicted in things like War Games. While certainly accurate they were nothing compared to what I knew was going on and I will readily admit I was only minimally involved with such activities.
  2. Well, rather than expound upon your comment, you decided to just simply talk about his face rather than his hockey ability on a forum dedicated to hockey discussion. This was the second time you had made the comment. Given this, on top of others saying similar things about Dahlin and Eichel, it comes across as more immature picking on people rather than from a place of empathy and understanding for what people go through with it. Your initial commentary then gets piled on by others who look at that opportunity to jump on the bandwagon. Clearly you have an understanding of it. That's excellent. The lecture comes from the additional pile on comments and the repeated nature of the acne attacks that have persisted on the board going back to last year. My apologies for the lecture.
  3. Hank - Have you experience in the field of cybersecurity or any experience with hacking in general?
  4. Clearly morning skates aren't needed though...
  5. I'd rather listen to pi campaign against Housley than see this every post. For what it's worth, Dahlin looks like he suffers from cystic acne. Clearasil wouldn't do a damn thing for him. You can read more about it here: https://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/cystic-acne#1 What you'll love about that form of acne is just how damaging it is to the skin. It's a real treat to have to deal with skin infections that spread and puss up on your face. Having to have them lanced and drained. The insults and "jokes" that get hurled your way even though there isn't a damn thing you can do about it. I am sure being an world-class hockey player helps reduce the impact but for those in life who aren't, the pain of having that condition and not being able to do anything about it really sucks. Oh, no, they have a drug. It's now a generic, but originally was called Accutane. It's a real treat when you take it. You need blood tests every 6 months, you need to stay out of the sun as much as possible, and if that weren't bad enough there's the link to thoughts of depression and suicide. It's a real barrel of joy to deal with when you are 16-18 years old. You should ask someone who went through it... oh wait, no need. I did and I just told you. Perhaps you will all reconsider the jokes, perhaps not. But it's my hope that you are more aware of how some things in this world that you don't think much about, can have an impact on people. Now for the game: I loved it. I hated the shell in the 3rd period. This team isn't built to play defensively and it shows. They need to be in on the forecheck and using their speed. Hopefully that will change as the season goes on but I am sure the staff feel a need to demonstrate wins and so they'll begin to play conservative to try and eek out a game like that rather than continue to play all out and potentially give up those counter-attack goals. There's evidence (visually) that they are still learning how to play together. Quite a few times there were two players in the same spot, some missed passes. The puck certainly seems to be bouncing around a lot as well. Hopefully that settles down. There seemed to be a lot of time in the neutral zone with the puck just bouncing back and forth. Still.. it's a win. Lots of positives, but hopefully the trend continues.
  6. The election hacking, to me, is a serious cause for alarm. It's certainly an avenue that would lead to some kind of voting suspension. If one things about the SuperMicro chip situation it is easy to see how the same kind of program could be worked against the company building the voting machines. It's damn near impossible to protect against chip level backdoor operations. We're likely to see more information on these types of things popping up over the coming years.
  7. Okay... so now I have to really test SDS patience with the nerdiness. MIDI is nothing more than a digital interface to pass numbers to a system to interpret them. This is the "start" of the sound creation process. The MIDI has to be processed into the various instruments assigned to the channels (patches as you called them). There's some magic here as many vendors have their own creations they use. It's not like he picked up a Native Instruments Instrument pack and is playing that. This is Lowrey defined sound and blends. I'm not going to read the full guide on the Lowrey or the Nord but there is in question the number of channels being assigned to instruments as well. Does the Lowrey use acoustic modeling for it's instruments or does it use digital or even samples? Those are where the real questions lie. Ultimately, they are different. They probably COULD sound the same in some instances, but they are different. Just like no patch on Earth is the same as a real Hammond B-3 with the Leslie. His rig is playing over a sound system, but the question there is what sound processing is happening before it gets patched out to the rink audio? Again, sound processors, etc. can be quite proprietary. If they are running it through any kind of internal amp system before being sent to the output then again it's going to sound very different. We can also add that the Rialto is a dual 61 key keyboard with 25 note pedals. This will create far more sound capabilities than the Nord which is an 88-key (I believe, it could just be 61, I didn't pay that much attention). So no matter what you do with the Nord, you can't get the same range of notes in one "press" of the keys (10 fingers, and two feet) that you can with the Rialto.
  8. It's Kids Day at the rink. It's absolutely because kids have off from school and many parents have to take these days off as well (or they are paying for daycare). I had today off anyway, so I'll be watching. Can't wait to see how they come out today... gotta hope for progression.
  9. Over/under on when the 2 term limit for Presidency is rescinded? Now I've done it.
  10. I think you missed what I was saying a bit. The job itself is not going to attract all that many people. It's not a career job with many upward opportunities. You might get a few better people to sign up to sling hot dogs a few nights a week for part of the year, but you'd have to offer a TON of money for that to be financially viable as a career. The price of concessions would be astronomical (compared to where they already are). What you are left with is a portion of the workforce who needs supplemental income or are really desperate for a job. For those who will have pride in how they work you'd see that whether you paid them $10/hr or $20/hr. Those that don't won't suddenly show more pride in their work just because you pay them more. Those have that pride in their work are probably not hanging around there too long unless they get moved out from behind the counter and into a better position. McDonald's could offer $30/hr. But the job itself is a dead-end job and wouldn't necessarily attract people who are looking to be rewarded for their hard work.
  11. It's more than that. It's certainly electronic and as such there will be something missing compared to a full on pipe organ. However, there is a large difference between the proprietary algorithms and sounds used by different manufacturers. That said.. the Lowrey Rialto (which is what he has now) is a full on organ with built in speakers. This is nothing like a Nord Stage 2, which while certainly not a piece of garbage, is going to rely on an external speaker, etc. This in and of itself will vary nature the of the sound.
  12. I think we knew this would happen. They are going to be more open and that's going to result in many more shots. I recall the thread last year that people would rather lose 6-4 than 3-1. This is what we are in for until they can improve their puck possession (and overall defense).
  13. I never grind until I need them. I'll just need to figure out how to grind them more. I think I have a plan to try it.
  14. Sure wish I had warranted an interview for the CIO job a little while back. No resposne. I'm not spiteful... I'm not spiteful.
  15. Last year's organ is in that tweet thread. It was pitiful compared to what he has now. It was essentially a synth last year. I am sure I could be biased but on the broadcast it sounds better this year too. It has a richer sound.
  16. It's that story, right there, that makes me want to travel the world and experience life. It's what I think the world should be about. Thanks! I may have to try making this at some point. Hah!
  17. I'm going to go find a turnover Gretzky made and then claim he sucked as a player. That's how the Internet works these days right?
  18. In what way? As if they got paid more they would care more? I would disagree if that's the case. The vast majority of the people working those jobs simply do not care enough to do a better job. If you paid them twice as much they wouldn't care more. There are some who do have pride in their work. They shine and it's great when you find one. There may be a concept that "it's only a minimum wage job" I don't need to care. But in my experience, when those people make more money they'll find another reason not to care.
  19. I have no faith that that team will be anywhere near what it showed last year. I think it's a bad example. The team had zero expectations to win and had a significant galvanizing event occur just before the start of the season. I think that created a unique situation in which every little thing that normally pops up in the team chemistry goes away and players just play and have a moral reason to play hard. It's not that it CAN'T happen, but the probability of any team turning over many faces in the lineup, especially in the top tiers of the lineup, and performing well out of the gate is very low. This is proven over years of teams doing this.
  20. ? It wasn't that it was too loud really, it's that the speakers were so bad that the sound delivery wasn't efficient and clean. So there were some very off putting frequencies blasting around the arena. KBC has far better audio equipment, so it's loud but it doesn't kill your ears.
  21. I am sure the visuals are better with the new screen. They mentioned improved sound as well, that's a huge one for me at the Amerks game. The sounds the past few years has been so bad and so loud that it gave me headaches...
  22. I didn't want to rely upon Wikipedia... but if you think it's the right information I can go with it. Thanks. So, how do you get it so finely ground? Is a normal grinder, set on it's finest setting, good enough to make that happen? Also, I found this tidbit in the article entertaining: "First appearing in the Ottoman Empire, under the strictest interpretations of the Quran the strong coffee was considered a drug and its consumption was forbidden. Due to the immense popularity of the beverage, the sultan eventually lifted this prohibition." Coffee over religion! ?
  23. And there it is... makes sense too. Of course, if people don't show up he's not going to make much money on concessions there.
  24. Right, clearly it was an o and an r
  25. Couldn't it be said that the executive branch has been expanding power through the use of executive orders and that's gone unchecked for decades?
