Botterill's assertion is one that has to be made. He is the GM on a team who has an oft-injured defender who was drafted extremely high. He doesn't want to buy him out because that would wreak havoc on his cap management. He's left with one thing to say. Bogosian is being counted on as an addition to this years team. What you also hear from the people on here is that he's not that good anyway. I would agree to a certain point. He's certainly not worth his contract and he's not living up to his draft position. So, we can hope he overcomes injury, if he does we'll have to hope that he will make a difference that another defender wouldn't already make. I can't be so positive as to say that at this point.

Mine is about 50/50. Though to be fair, I keep most extreme minded individuals out of my life, so I won't hear it and if some blowhard starts going strong in public I just walk away so I don't have to hear much of the haranguing. -
Happy 231st B-day to the Constitution

I've no great love for what the military represents, but how long do you suppose your civil rights attorney would last if there wasn't a soldier keeping another country from shooting him? If you eliminated the military the US would cease to exist within 30 days. Thankfully in most cases it's just making sure they exist that protects us. -
Honoring servicemembers at sporting events
LTS replied to Hank's topic in The Oval Office (Politics)'s Topics
Hank - I truly appreciate the time you put into this response. It demonstrates a real commitment to the discussion. Let me start by saying, there are a lot of those little "10 seconds" in life where it does not harm anyone to use that time to respect what someone else has done or to show respect by performing a small act (ie. holding a door). Our society has certainly fostered the "me before anyone else" mentality to the point where many people feel that they are all that matter. I dislike the military. It represents something that should not exist. However, I still respect those who choose that as their career. I can understand how someone who feels even more strongly about the military than I do could be bothered by honoring a person who willingly chose to support that entity. As for the "inferior man" section of your post. I think the part that comes into question is why single amount men? It's that choice to focus on "men" as opposed to "people" that I think bothers me most. The things you cite as examples are examples for all, not just males. The focus on men here seems to come across as a sexist viewpoint simply because of the persistent use of men and sons without any acknowledgement that it is important for women to also have: a strong work ethic, clean credit, etc. Finally, when you paraphrased about another poster "wants the NHL to look like the women's game" were you using that posters words or were you drawing a comparison to someone wanting to reduce the hitting that exists in the NHL? If the poster said it, then so be it. However, I think, in choosing the words you chose, you demonstrate that you see some line of distinction between the physicality of men and women and what should be acceptable. It would have been different if you had stated it, "wants the NHL to eliminate checking". Hockey removed checking until age 13 a few years back. There is talk of removing it until age 15. It's not a male/female thing, it's a damage to the body/brain thing. Similarly, there are those who ask why women's hockey does not have checking legalized? Certainly watching a USA vs Canada game one might not even know that checking was illegal. The bottom line is that in choosing your words (if they were yours) it comes across as being sexist, especially when coupled with the entire post on "a man and his sons". If it's not your intent, excellent. I am just saying that it's not hard to interpret your focus on the male aspects as being chauvinistic. -

You can turn your argument around and replace left and right and end up in the same place. Intolerance is intolerance, period. Neither the left nor right have copyright over it. They are both prone to being insufferable garbage that plague the Earth. Snowflakes exist universally. As for when you cut off a family member? It's when they are no longer interested in trying to be a better person in the world and are more interested in how they feel over how others feel. In your friend's case it's clear the parents are insufferable garbage. You can't choose your family, you can only choose to associate with them. Good friends can do anything family can do for you. While you may share genetic code with your parents and other family members, the truth is you share similar genetic code with everyone. So, if your family is insufferable, then don't suffer by them. Ultimately, I think the world doesn't need more tolerance. It needs more acceptance. I can tolerate someone eating fish in the office, but I accept that a person is a certain race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc. Accept what cannot be changed, tolerate what can, and work to be better people. The only intolerable people in this world are those that would seek to take away my personal freedom (or the personal freedom of others) and not be open to changing their behavior. -

I noticed that RJ was barely calling out any Penguins players. Most likely because it's not the regular roster but I think it does show his aging as well. But I'm all on board. I would say you might need to replace him on the radio, but on TV I can see what's happening. On TV though , I can see what's happening. RJ's voice is just part of the overall sound mix that creates the scene of a Sabres game. I don't like Sabres games without RJ just like I can't watch a nature documentary not narrated by Sir David Attenborough.

If you look at the Sabres site and their schedule it does not list MSG as a network on any games. It really only lists the other team's network or the national network. Even when you see MSG it seems it apply to an Islanders/Devils/Rangers game. Basically they must be operating under the assumption that all games are on MSG unless otherwise noted. However, it is odd that they list the away team network. This is also what confused me with the pre-season schedule as none of the games were listed as MSG but there are some that are on MSG (and some aren't). They all say WGR550 however.

On the bright side.. let's all imagine Risto giving Domi the same treatment he gave Sprong the other night. That'll be fun.

The number of retired players with serious brain trauma and suicidal thoughts is probably higher than those we are aware of but I don't suspect it reaches as high as you are suggesting. Moreover, you are placing the blame on the owners for the decision of a player. Brain trauma likely started occurring before entering the NHL and as such it was the player's choice to join the league and continue playing. That said, the game has been transitioning into a less physical game that should result in lower amounts of brain injury. Who gets credit for that? I agree. In addition, the players are the one's who choose to eventually sign onto rules that don't benefit them. Players are the one's who allow their own fellow union members to take cheap shots on them without repercussions. I've never understood why the NHLPA doesn't police its own more than the NHL does.

It was shared on here.. perhaps in this thread. The best part is that they misspelled Borowiecki's name in the video.

There is a chance that something happened, something was found, etc. that has changed the situation. It certainly happens. Why do we need to nitpick the situation? He's not on the ice. He has a significant injury history. If he's injured, he's injured. It won't be a surprise to anyone and it won't really matter to the team since they've mostly been playing without him for the entirety of his contract. He clearly was on the ice, playing, during the summer. If nothing else, he was able to do that. So, whatever the reason is, it is. There's no need to begin trashing the guy.

UPDATE: Sam Reinhart signs 2-year extension -- $3.65MM per year
LTS replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
This is a great deal. I am not worried about 2 years from now. Assuming Reinhart plays so well he commands $8M in a contract, it only matters if Mittlestadt and Dahlin also demand top money. If that happens, one of them (Reinhart) is going to get a good return in younger players or picks to help restock the prospect pool. If not, they find a way to sign all the players. If Reinhart doesn't play to $8M then the story changes. However, for the moment, it's a great deal. -
Lidstrom was known for doing little things like that. Wonder where the kid might have seen it before... ?

Can't imagine why...

Deslauriers is signed for 2 more seasons for $950k. He's getting paid either way. And, if he's injured, he won't be sent down. So, it seems like it might actually be a good way to make the roster.

Sabres @ Blue Jackets 1st Preseason game 7pm tonight!
LTS replied to North Buffalo's topic in The Aud Club
Can't tell if there's TV coverage or not... none of the games on sabres.com list MSG under ANY of the pre-season. They list SportsNet for the Leafs games and they list NBCSN. However, if you look at the MSG GO site it lists tomorrow night's game against Pittsburgh at 7pm. Any TV tonight? I'm dying to watch some hockey. -
I am reading that now. The first reports implied if the Sharks traded him to an Eastern Conference team. Much better then.

Robin Lehner Opens Up About His Bipolar Disorder and Alcoholism
LTS replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
First, I don't think just because of what they do they should be subjected to any different standard. Treat them the same as you would the barista getting your coffee. Why is there a reason to treat them differently? One makes saves, one makes coffee. Both might be very good at what they do or not. Is it because they make "millions of dollars" so they can take it? Money can afford a lot of treatment but it never prevents the cause. It can't cure mental health issues, it can't cure alcoholism, and it can't stop bullets. So, why treat an athlete any differently than your local bartender? Let me summarize my feelings this way. There's a world of difference in saying "You're a POS goaltender." and "You're a POS." -
Certainly, but it's okay to trade him in the Western Conference... or trade him in the Western Conference to a team that moves him to the Eastern conference. Were I the GM in Ottawa I would have written that if Karlsson ends up in the Eastern conference this year we get a better pick. Or, I would have simply said, if you trade him at all. I don't suspect there's any way Karlsson gets traded (unless the Sharks have a massive collapse or significant injury epidemic). But... the possibility is there.

I just love the "You can't trade him back to the Eastern conference without giving us more." condition. Credit to Dorion for learning on his last trade with the Sharks? ?
