  1. In celebration of the blizzard, I just watched Frozen for the first time. I'm really excited to have that song stuck in my head for the next 6-8 months. Also, Mark's Pizza is closed. WTF?
  2. I completely agree, it's all on whether the play is for next year or longer term. Moving one of the forwards for top notch RFA talent frees up space and eliminates the UFA "walk risk". I'd put it at 90-10 that your scenario will be the choice.
  3. Advanced Stats will tell you that this is their best game in months.
  4. Stan Bowman is a genius. If he chooses to trade Kane and keep Hossa around a few more years, and we don't understand why he did it, then we are clearly not geniuses. He built a cup winner, dismantled huge parts, and rebuilt a cup winner 3 years later around a core of like 4 guys. And if that is not enough proof that he is clearly the best GM of this generation and a front office wizard: He graduated from Notre Dame. I rest my case.
  5. At some point Bowman has to start worrying about the Hossa Contract. After 2017 his salary is only $1M/yr. If he retires or leaves the country, Chicago has to pay a $4.28M cap recapture penalty through 2021. If he stays, he's a 40-year-old man with a $5.25M cap hit. Given their successes, I think the contract was obviously worth it, but the time is coming to start paying the piper. Unless, of course, they use an amnesty on him this summer. They'll also have $6M tied up in one goalie starting next year, with no backup. Chicago's situation is complicated. Unless Hossa is bought out, Toews or Kane (and I think more likely Kane) might get moved at the draft, or this summer, to reduce the long term payroll liabilities and free up some space for next season. Trading one of those guys for younger (cheaper) assets is definately a reasonable option.

  7. Didn't Dick Chaney have one of these installed a few years back?
  8. You have a good point there. Cinnamon really isn't competitive without the juice. He might get away with it for a while, but eventually USADA will get him. They always do.
  9. It is less than a mile from my place, and directly across the street from our design studio. If you head out, PM me, and I'll join ya. I think I owe you a drink from way back anyway.
  10. sorry it's closer to 150. http://www.riotomatlan.com/menus click "more menus" >> "Drinks and Refreshments" that's a partial list.
  11. You just have to thread that needle between a Derek Roy Slug Jersey and a Tuxedo with Tails. shouldn't be too hard.
  12. Beeman St. in Canandaigua. they have something like 100 tequilas.
  13. I think that this is too close to the old bad Sabres thinking. I prefer this line of Thinking: The only thing that matters is the crest and the city. As long as those things are in tact, I don't care who is on the team or in the organization when we win the cup, just win the cup.
  14. I had the Burro Rafael with Chipotle Chicken from Rio Tomatlan in Canandaigua on Saturday. I have not stopped thinking about how awesome it was since then. It might be the best thing I've ever eaten.
  15. Probably not, but he is gonna cut another $2.2M Check to Alexei Yashin and a $1.5M Check to Rick DiPietro. That is crippling for a team looking to spend to the floor every year.
  16. If abandoning the Tank means icing a better roster than we currently have, I believe it is inevitable. We are currently about $6.8M above the floor for this season. $3.3M of that is going to players who no longer play for the organization. The rest is Ville Leino. We are at the floor right now. Spending to the floor next year after losing those freebe cap dollars and amnesty on Leino will inevitably make the roster better. Maybe not a winner, but better.
  17. I agree Leino has to be bought out. It's the last chance to do it without a cap hit, and you can't leave his $4.5M on the payroll for 3 years, just to hit the floor next year. I think Tallinder gets another year or 2. McBain is an RFA. He comes back.
  18. Remember how heading into the Superbowl this year, the most important story regarding the Seahawks wasn't the sophomore mid-round quarterback, it was the antics of a veteran defensive back? It took a lot of the spotlight off Wilson. It's interesting how this story is taking all the spotlight off the worst roster in franchise history having just jettisoned it's only face since 2007.
  19. Does anyone know how the second round works vis-a-vis the lottery? If we finish last, do we get the first pick in the second round regardless of the lotto results? I ask because there are only 29 picks in the first this year (NJ) so the 1st pic in the second round is still a top30 pick...
  20. Fortunately, he only needs to win 8 to get us the first rounder.
  21. Will this free up a contract spot to make a trade at the draft?
  22. Oh, he's over it already. Made of far stronger stuff than his old man. I just need Zadarov to develop into an absolute stud. The LastPommerGift, if you will.
