Who is saying draft, but don't trade and FA? It's all three. We have the defense started extemely well with Myers, risto, and zadarov at the top. We have a high potential scoring center in grigs and a truly amazing physical center in Zemgus. We need to fill out the scoring center roll in the draft because those guys don't get traded nor reach FA. And the top of the draft is a better place to find those guys. Then, once that is done, we need scoring line wingers and a goalie. Sure, we can attempt to get those guys this summer, but to what end? With the high potential, but raw defensemen still so young, and the scoring line center positions still in need, we can add a couple vanek level wingers and a miller level goalie and end up maybe in 24th place rather than 30th. We should draft top 5 talent this year and next, then worry about filling the winger and goalie slots that are always easier to fill through trade and FA anyway.

Yes, what the colts did after Manning's surgery to get Luck is a tank in its purest form. The sabres are just bad and got worse trading assets for futures.

I cannot believe that almost 40% of the voters think the bills will make the playoffs.

Of all the media surrounding the sabres, he's the one I give the most credence to. He's still just the best of a sorry lot.

Ray would be getting solid second line minutes on this team.

NJ decided to pick at 29 rather than give it up. It'll cost them 20 spots.

They had Moulson/Vanek score 23 goals this year and lost them for nothing that will help next year. Tavares will be coming back from a significant injury. Okposo will not have the monster season he's having this year again, he will regress to his average. They have a TON of offensive issues to deal with next year that adding one solid forward is not going to help. They also have almost $44M already committed for next year, plus Yashin, plus DiPietro. Wang isn't going to open the coffers much past the floor. They don't have the resources to improve this team enough to finish outside the bottom 8 next year.

I think it's almost exactly what is going on in buffalo. They brought this coach in to destroy the team. Much like we did with Rolston.

Interview with the 1984 coach of the pittsburgh penguins. Interviewed during the 2003-2004 season that, while they missed out on Ovi, helped secure Crosby. This guy coached exactly one full NHL season, and he tanked it to perfection: http://old.post-gazette.com/pg/04088/292486.stm

I don't think they've been as blunt as you think they have. I think coming here and reading every tank other tank word tank as tank tank tank, may be skewing the message tank.

If this happens, and the "Russian" half is annexed, the "Russian" sliver of Moldova that Eleven posted about earlier would border Russia proper. Almost assuredly they would be moving to join the Motherland. This would in turn likely cause Europe to freak the ###### out. I see a new curtain descending across Europe. I wonder if Putin will start to play nice again when the 2018 World Cup gets closer.

I hadn't though of that. Do you think they might be forcing him to hire Battista as an Associate Coach for PK and Goalies?

If I learned one thing in my time working in the UK, it is to never attempt to anticipate what a Scotsman will do. They'll do the opposite just to spite you. I think London is royally botching the PR campaign. Every poll that is released independence gains a few more points. I think this is a direct result of London trying to tell them how terrible it would be for Scotland were it to become independent.

We did that....it resulted in...problems...

At the same time, the world simply isn't independent sets of regional interactions. Some sort of global order (by order I mean and simple set of rules about how groups of people in different territories interact with each other) is needed and the Nation State is just as valid as any other. The west just needed to spend a little more time thinking about how to set it up, and also, maybe, you know, asking the people who lived there for their input.

If they wait and buy him out with a regular buyout they'll end up with a cap hit for twice as long as if they kept him around for the whole length. Also, I think it's more about the 50 contract limit than the cap. Spending money is easy, having trade flexibility with the contract limit is much more important.

remember that one time, when France and England haphazardly divided Africa and Asia up into nation states based on political and economic boundaries rather than traditional cultural ones? They're still digging out from that mess. Parts of Eastern Europe are the same, and many would like to join Russia. I wonder if Russia would allow Chechnya to hold a peaceful referendum on independence, and honor the results? The west will have it's test case in 6 months. Scotland votes on independence in September.

The first time they added the lottery was after a lockout as well.

The sabres are not it goalie purgatory...yet...

My guess is that Nolan knows Pegula doesn't care about the Money, so he wants employment assurances that go beyond dollars and cents. He wants a guarantee that he will be the head coach for the entire 3 year period. The Lawyers are trying to figure out how to write that.

Except this isn't the world of 1950. The Russians can't survive on their own, and the Chinese aren't going to join them, they have even more to lose from an international trade battle than Moscow. I still can't figure out the end game in this scenario where Putin doesn't destroy the Russian economy, but still manages to save face.
